Work Text:
Addison Montgomery let out an annoyed sigh at the text notification. This was the fifth time in as many minutes that her best friend/ex-girlfriend from med school was texting her. They hadn’t dated long, barely half a semester, but it had been an amicable breakup, or so she thought. They’d gone right back to being friends right after, and while she suspected that Naomi still harbored feelings for her, it didn’t stop her from moving on.
Naomi had started dating Sam, and they’d gotten married not long after med school. Meredith had transferred from Dartmouth, and they’d started dating not long after they’d met. If she was being honest, she was smitten with the blonde, more than she’d been with anyone. And maybe that was why Naomi disliked Meredith.
She knew at some point, Naomi started to resent her relationship with Meredith. And when Sam and Naomi were having problems in their marriage, Naomi would somehow always bring up that she was sure Meredith did the same things that Sam did, how she was sure that she understood what it was like when her partner came home late from work most nights. She didn’t have it in her to tell her that she and Meredith had just grown stronger since med school, even if they weren’t legally married. After growing their careers in New York, they’d moved to Seattle for job offers and had grown stronger in their personal and professional lives.
“Naomi again?” Meredith asked, reaching over and stealing a fry from her plate.
“Yes,” She answered with a sigh, “I think her coming to visit is a horrible idea.”
Meredith shrugged, “She’s newly divorced, probably just wants to complain about Sam.”
“Probably,” She laughed, looking around the cafeteria. She wrinkled her nose, “Are you aware that your ex-girlfriend is trying to hit on your sister again?”
“Yes, for the last five minutes.” Meredith sighed.
She hadn’t been expecting Meredith’s ex-girlfriend Sadie to be working at Seattle when they’d moved. Meredith hadn’t realized either, but it didn’t affect them at all, at least not in the way Sadie had probably been expecting.
Meredith’s sister Lexie was part of a new intern class, and it seemed that Sadie had taken an interest in her. Meredith was quietly seething over it, even if she hadn’t initially wanted to even know her sister. But Meredith had a good heart, and couldn’t stand to see anyone get hurt. And she knew that Sadie would eventually hurt Lexie.
Which was why she stepped in. Sadie never liked her, and was far more open in her disdain for her than Naomi was with Meredith. Now, Sadie flirted with Lexie whenever she could, which wasn’t too often, given that her intern class kept Lexie with them most days.
She grinned softly as she watched Lexie’s attention shift from Sadie to Mark, as the Plastics Attending walked into the room, “I don’t think Sadie is aware that Lexie is in love with Mark.”
Meredith looked over, “No, I don’t think so either. But she wasn’t aware that I was in love with you.”
“Smooth-talker,” Leaning over, she pressed a kiss to Meredith’s lips, “I have to go pick up Naomi from the airport.”
“Drive safe.”
She smiled, “Always.”
