Work Text:
For the amount of rain that Seattle could get in the spring and summer, winter was just as fierce. The snow that had started mid-afternoon yesterday had turned into a full-blown snowstorm by the time she’d managed to make it home that night. Addison already had the kids tucked away in bed for the night.
As she settled onto the couch beside her wife, a cup of hot chocolate in her hands, she let out a soft sigh of relief. Today had been a decent day, but it was nice to be home. Addison had left early to get the kids from school when they’d been released early. It was a smart call by the school district.
“They canceled school tomorrow,” Addison commented as she grabbed a throw blanket off the back of the couch, settling it on their laps.
She cast a glance out the window. The streetlights made it easy to see the snow falling to the ground, “I would be worried if they didn’t. It’s going to get worse.”
Addison smiled at her, resting her head on her shoulder, “If only we could stay home too.”
With a soft laugh, she replied, “I don’t think we’ll get that lucky.”
“Moms!” It was Zola’s voice that woke them in the morning, and she knew it was just minutes before their alarm was set to go off too.
Wiping the sleep from her eyes, she sat up and replied, “Come in.”
Zola opened the door and peeked inside, “I got Ellis breakfast, but Henry and Bailey are playing card games in the living room and won’t eat.”
“We’ll be down in just a minute, Zo Zo,” Addison answered, her voice still muddled with sleepiness.
“Okay,” Zola shut the door and they could hear her call out to her siblings, “Moms are coming!”
“Let’s have four kids, you said,” Addison joked as she leaned over and kissed her good morning, “It’ll be fun, you said.”.
She hummed softly as she returned the kiss, “It is definitely fun.” As they dressed for the day, she noticed Addison looking out the window, “Still coming down?”
“At this rate, I don’t think we’ll be able to leave the house,” Addison replied.
She took one look outside and agreed immediately. Even with snow plows going down the road, it wasn’t safe to drive at all.
Grabbing her phone, she answered with, “You’re right. I’ll call Bailey.”
“Boys, come in here and eat your breakfast,” Addison called out as they came down the stairs.
“Hi, Momma! Hi, Mommy!” Ellis yelled from the dining room, where she was sitting. She was coloring now, her bowl of cereal having been finished and placed in the sink by Zola.
“Good morning, Elle-Belle. What are you coloring?” Addison asked, pressing a kiss to Ellis’ forehead.
Their youngest held up a coloring book, “Elsa!”
The boys made their way to the table, and she poured them each a bowl of cereal.
“Breakfast before games, boys.” She said.
“Sorry, Mom,” They apologized quickly.
“How about you guys finish up with breakfast and we can go out and play in the snow for a bit?” She suggested.
“Really?!” Ellis asked, looking between them.
“What about work?” Zola asked.
“We called off today. It’s not safe to drive,” Addison replied.
“Finish up breakfast and then we can get ready to go outside,” She added.
A hot cup of cocoa was definitely needed after a couple hours playing in the snow. They settled the kids into the living room, in front of the fire, blankets wrapped around them. They didn’t get to have days like this all the time, so it was nice that they got today.
“How about we make pizza for lunch?” Addison asked.
The kids’ exuberance made her and Addison share a look. It seemed like they were doing something right.
