Work Text:
Donnie was so done. He was genuinely going to kill someone. Specifically the absolute pig known as don vizioso. The pig doesn’t deserve to breathe anymore. He tried to have me dissected. In front of mondo gecko, mondo, who is a child.
Donnie was going to break that pigs neck. He just needed to get past Leo. He knew Leo meant well, but he didn’t understand. He might never. Leo was still stuck trying to follow the moral code that got dad killed. Donnie wouldn’t waste his time trying to convince Leo why that pig would be better off dead.
Donnie knew that the don would stop at nothing to kill them after this. The pig literally invested in an arsenal of anti-mutant weapons. He would genuinely be better off dead.
Donnie just wanted to keep him and his family safe. Unlike splinter who couldn’t finish the job, got himself killed, and left them to fend for themselves.
So here he was, slipping away while Leo gave directions. He made his way to the building closest to the hotel, jumping the gap between the buildings. He caught himself on the ledge, and pulled himself up with his arms. He stayed in the shadows, creeping towards where the two guards stood.
He pulled one into the shadows, bashing his head against the wall, effectively taking him out. He pulled the other guard down and pressed on a pressure point splinter had taught them. He hit the ground with a thud.
“Donnatello what are you doing!” Leo’s voice rang through his phone.
“I’m getting that heart, and putting an end to vizioso for good.” Donnie snapped at his phone. He hooked his grappling hook onto an air conditioning unit.
“Whatever’s between you and the don doesn’t matter. You're jeopardizing the mission!” Leo reasoned.
“oh come on, look at all the anti-mutant weapons he’s built.” Donnie argued, climbing down the side of the building, “We need to put a stop to this, and we need to do it now. Donnie out!”
“Donnie!” Leo yelled. He had turned off his phone. Explosions erupted around him, sending him free falling off the side of the building. He caught himself on a ledge, his fingers slipping. This is gonna hurt.
He fell the rest of the way down crashing into ..someone arms? Leo. While he may not understand, he still cares. All the more reason to put an end to the don.
Him and Leo made quick work of bebop and rocksteady, rushing into the building. He wouldn’t be able to lose Leo, he would have to wait until he was distracted.
The hotel was fairly run down, paint peeling, and wood rotting. The walls were a sickening shade of yellow, and the floors smelt of mildew. This is where don vizioso would die. He deserved it.
“Remember Donnie, keep it together.” Leo whisper-yelled at him, “we’re after the heart not revenge”
Leo slammed a goon back into the door he came from.
“In the spirit of multitasking, I’d like to think we have time for both.” Donnie said, not seeing the goon come up behind him. Leo took that one out too, giving him a look as he stepped over the body.
They broke down the door to the don’s room. Immediately fighting the Fulci twins. Donnie didn’t have time for this. He slammed the twin he was fighting to the floor with force he normally wouldn’t use. He collapsed.
Leo was still fighting the other twin, leaving him and vizioso. This was it. His final minutes. He yanked the pig out of his chair, bringing him to the floor, where he belonged. The blade on his bo staff came out, pointing itself at the dons neck.
“This is the end for you vizioso.”
“Donnie!” Leo pleaded, ”don’t lose sight of who you are”
What is he, six? Splinter's teachings may work for Leo, but not for him. He won’t be like splinter, Donnie won’t abandon his family. Even if it means losing himself, his family will be safe.
“This is the end.” Donnie couldn’t recognize his own voice.
He brought down the blade.
It plunged into the countless layers of fat, spraying blood, tainting his bo staff with the blood of a monster. The red trickled down the dons gasping form. It’s a shame he didn’t get that calzone. He’s eaten enough anyway.
A sigh left his lips, followed by a giggle, then another one. Then another one. Giggles morphed into sobs, as he pulled his blade out of the now still don vizioso. He couldn’t do this anymore. His family was closer to being safe now, and he would do what it takes to make it that way. It still hurt though. He killed a man, albeit a monster of a man, but a man nonetheless. What would Leo think of him now?
Leo finally took down the other twin, walking over to Donnie. Donnie grabbed the heart off the floor and passed it to Leo, still sobbing. Leo stepped forward, hugging Donnie. Leo opened his mouth to say something, but an explosion shook the room. They fell next to the dons lifeless body. Was it worth it? His brain supplied.
Tigerclaw entered, kavaxas not far behind. Donnie’s ears still rang as they took the heart and blasted them out of the hotel. They crashed into trash cans in an alley.
The don was dead, and kavaxas had the heart. Donnie wondered if they still would’ve gotten the heart had he not killed vizioso. Maybe. Leo pulled him to his feet, looking at him with pity. He didn’t regret it, it hurt, but he held no regret.
“It wasn’t your fault, I failed you.” Leo said, hoping to take a little weight off his little brother's shoulders.
“I brought the blade down, you had nothing to do with it.” Donnie stated, “his body is one less threat to our family.”
Leo started to argue but their T-phones went off. Mikey was hurt. They had to meet up with the rest of the group. Donnie would never be the same, but maybe that was okay.
After the shredder, he would never let anyone hurt his family ever again.
It was so worth it.
