Butters really wished he hadn’t gone to camp with Jimmy.
It seemed fine at first, his parents had been fine with it, which was great, since it meant he could get away from them for once. His friends, New Kid, Kenny, Jimmy of course, and Timmy were there. There was some kid named Mintberry Crunch there too, and the blonde wasn’t exactly sure how to feel about him yet. Though, he’d been sure he would’ve warmed up to him if he’d been given the time.
He hadn’t been given the time, though.
The second he got there, it was nothing but fright after fright. There were monsters everywhere, nearly all of the counselors were dead, this kid named ‘Nathan’ was trying to kill them, a fucking alien had come down from space, and now to top it all of, said alien had Timmy mind controlled. It was all too stressful, and for once, Butters just wished he was home.
It would’ve been absolutely unbearable, if Kenny hadn’t been there. Somehow, Kenny always made bad situations better. Even as an alien from some unknown planet was using Timmy’s incredible mind powers to try and murder them.
On that note…
Butters ducked out of the way of a crab claw made completely out of milk. The half gadgeteer-half summoner villain decided he’d question how this was all even possible later, because focusing on survival was much more important. “Oh hamburgers! K-Kenny, you doin’ alright over there?!” Butters yelled, charging up one of his lightning attacks. “I’m fine, Butters! Focus on yourself!” The netherborn responded, not in his gravely Mysterion face, in his natural Kenny voice. It was comforting to the other blonde, in a way.
The scent of mint and berry filled the air, mixed with milk, it was like Butters was in a bowl of cereal. Mixed with the stench of blood, it was hard to focus. Butters stepped closer to the milky enemy in order to be in range to attack it, not paying attention to anything else other than finally killing this thing. A rumble underneath his feet snapped him out of his one-track thoughts.
“BUTTERS!” A voice shouted, the ground directly in front of the blonde breaking and shooting up flames. This is how he was gonna die, murdered by a mind-controlled version of one of his friends, he thought. He accepted his fate when he felt the ground under him begin to shake and crumble, though a yank on his cape by a certain netherborn behind him saved him from an incredibly early death.
He was pulled into the arms of Kenny, who hugged him tightly like he’d never let go. The ground Butters had just been standing on crumbled in on itself, a burst of fire erupting from the earths very core. Butters was left stunned, only staring in shock as the milkmade crab person in front of him melted into nothing but a puddle. He didn’t breathe for a few seconds, and didn’t blink for a bit longer.
Kenny had just saved his life. If not for him, he would’ve been nothing but a charred corpse.
“Are you okay?” Kenny asked, not letting go of the tight hug he had the other boy in. Butters only then realized that he hadn’t been hugging him back, and when he did, he latched onto him quicker than the speed of light, his hands gripping tightly into the fabric of the other blondes costume. “I-Y-yeah. I’m, I’m okay.” The boy forced out, his heart beating loudly in his chest, not only because he had almost died. The two stayed like that for a while, despite the fact an active battle was happening all around them. It didn’t even register to the two that they needed to move, they just wanted to stay in the others arms.
“G-Guys! I need b-b-buh-backup over here!” Jimmy called, causing both of the boys head to whip over in the direction of the plea. The brunette had been knocked down, an uncharacteristically terrified look on his face as the alien closed in on him. The two blondes shared a look of understanding, semi-reluctantly letting go of each other.
“You take care of the other milk crab guys. I’m gonna go help Jimmy and beat that aliens ass.” Kenny ordered, to which Butters nodded in response. His heart still hadn’t stopped racing, his mind still replaying the moment of his closest friend saving his life over and over again. Kenny turned around, before pausing. “Wait, just in case I never get to do this.” He said, a frantic look in his eye. The netherborn grabbed Butters face, smashing their lips together quickly.
What the fuck, Butters thought.
“I love you, Butters.” Kenny admitted, a look that Butters couldn’t quite understand on his face. With that, he quickly ran away, using his inhuman powers to defend his injured friend.
Butters knew he shouldn’t just be standing there, but holy fuck. Kenny had just saved his life, then kissed him, then said he loved him. Holy fuck.
The sound of a crabs shell breaking snapped him back to reality, his head whipping over to see the New Kid cracking a crab persons arm with their hedge shears. The blonde rushed behind the crab person, charging up a blast of electricity.
He could ask Kenny about everything when they were safe.

They’d survived, somehow. Even though Butters felt odd about the guy, he couldn’t help but admit that if it weren’t for Mintberry Crunch’s, or Bradley’s, abilities of berry and mint, they’d all be dead.
Timmy was passed out, which left Jimmy and Kenny to tend to his well-being. Butters honestly couldn’t believe someone as intellectually powerful as Timmy could be mind-controlled. Aliens were scary, he thought. Bradley and New Kid were talking about something, or more of Bradley was talking and New Kid just stood there with a blank expression as always. Until their face changed to a look of discomfort. The gadgeteer wondered what that was about. He’d have to ask them later.
Butters sat on one of the benches, his body aching from overexertion, and all the noise from the battle had given him a killer headache. Still, he was alive, so he didn’t care how bad his head hurt. He held his head in his hands, his helmet discarded on the spot next to him. His eyes were currently locked onto the ground, the smell of blood and guts still ever present in the air, just barely accompanied by the sweet scent of mint and berry. Not much different from a few minutes ago, he thought.
The sound of footsteps approaching him caused him to look up, and who else but Mysterion was approaching him. Butters quickly sat a bit more upright, his mouth suddenly feeling dry.
“Hey.” Kenny started, a soft look in his eyes. “Hiya Ken.” Butters offered an uncertain smile, at first attempting eye contact, but he quickly looked away. “Um, how’s Timmy?” The blonde asked. The vigilante shrugged, biting the inside of his mouth. “Not great. His head hurts so bad he says he can barely think, and that’s saying something when his whole thing is being a psychic.” Kenny explained, a sympathetic tone in his voice. Butters looked up to see that Kenny had taken his hood and mask off sometime while speaking. The blonde thought he looked really nice like that.
“He feels really guilty about everything. He really wasn’t in control, y’know? He and Jimmy are talking about it right now, but I don’t think it’s making Timmy feel any better.” Kenny fidgeted with his gloves, seemingly antsy. Butters simply nodded in response, feeling like this was as good a time as ever to bring up…What happened.
“Hey, so um, about uh, what happened…” Butters stammered, rubbing his knuckles together, his gaze alternating between the ground and Kenny, who was shaking with nerves. “Oh. Yeah, that.” Kenny was obviously avoiding Butters gaze, Butters was sure he’d never seen the other boy so timid. “Listen I was just…I, I was panicking, and…I thought, I thought, you could die, and I didn’t wanna miss that opportunity. I’m sorry that I did that, if you just don’t wanna talk about it..” Kenny paused, his eyes watery. He sighed, a bit too shaky for liking. “Don’t want to talk to me…I get it.”
“Kenny…” Butters stood up, holding the other boys hands in his own. “I would never want to stop talking to you. You’ve always been here for me. You saved my life, Ken.” Butters looked into the netherborns eyes, Kenny finally meeting his gaze. Butters felt his face heat up, but he wouldn’t do to now. “I liked it when you kissed me, Kenny. I…I love ya too. I wanna be more than a friend to you, if you’d let me…Oh geez, I’d wanna be your boyfriend.”
Kenny stared openly, jaw dropped opened slightly in disbelief. The boys eyes looked glossy, as if he was about to cry. “Kenny? Oh hamburgers, did I say something wrong?!” The gadgeteer panicked, his grip on the other blondes hands tightening. “No, I just…I didn’t think you’d like me back. I thought you’d hate me…” Kenny chucked dryly, a thankful smile on his lips.
“Oh Ken…” Butters smiled, “I could never hate you.” Kenny wiped his face, immediately going to back to holding Butters hand once he was done. “Hey, Leo?” The netherborn asked, causing Butters’ head to tilt in curiosity. “Do you wanna kiss again? More officially this time?” The hero asked, and Butters was sure his heart skipped a beat. “I’d love to, Kenny. I just might not be the best at it.” The gadgeteer laughed nervously following the statement, to which Kenny shook his head no.
“I’m sure you’re great at it. However you kiss, I’ll love it.” Kenny assured, and Butters wondered how he got so lucky. The two stayed like that for a little while, before leaning in, eyes closed, their lips joining in a kiss. Not under the threat of death, it could last longer, it was more intimate, their hands joined with their fingers interlocked, it was all either of them ever wanted.
Their lips separated, both of the boys face filled with blush. “I told you that you were a good kisser, Leo.” Kenny grinned, Butters shoved him slightly, rolling his eyes affectionately. “Shaddup Kenny..” He snickered, just as flustered as his friend, no, boyfriend now. The fact made Butters heart flutter.
“Hey, do you wanna go home? No offense to Jimmy, since he likes this place, but I don’t want to hang out at a camp I almost died at.” Kenny snickered, to which Butters quickly nodded. “Can I go to your house? I don’t wanna deal with my parents honestly…” Butters asked, knowing that even if he told his dad that he’d just almost died, he’d be grounded for one reason or another anyway. Kenny winced, knowing his house really wasn’t much better. A certain voice spoke up before he could say anything.
“Hey I can hear you g-g-guys!” Jimmy shouted, a playful tone in his voice. “For your information, Timtim and I decided we don’t wanna be here e-either.” The psychic and the speedster walked, or in Timmy’s case rolled, up to the other two, an apologetic look on the strawberry blondes face. “Apologies for…Everything that happened. I understand it may take time to trust me again.” Timmy said, telepathically. Butters waved his hand, an understanding look on his face. “It’s not your fault Timmy! Don’t worry about it!” He assured, Kenny nodding beside him.
“See Timtim? I told you they’d understand.” Jimmy offered one of his dorky brace-faced grins. The psychic rolled his eyes playfully, though it was clear the forgiveness meant a lot to him.
Kenny felt a pat on his shoulder, turning around to see that it was New Kid. The blonde tilted his head, confused. “Where’s Bradley?” The blonde asked, knowing he wouldn’t get a verbal response. It didn’t matter when they all understood New Kid fine anyway. New Kid looked up at the sky, their actions more than enough to convey what they meant. “Ah, he went back to his home planet, huh? Wonder if he’ll ever be back.” The netherborn said aloud, the other boys staying silent, all in their own thought.
“So, now what?” Timmy eventually asked, since just about nobody wanted to be here. The five all looked between each other, before New Kid raised their hand. “We can stay at your house? Whoopee!!” Butters exclaimed, throwing his hands into the air before quickly bringing them down. He’d forgotten how much his body still ached. “C-Come on super friends! Seriously, I wanna lay down.” Jimmy began walking as Timmy followed him, New Kid doing the same.
Kenny and Butters shared a glance, joining hands and following behind their friends to the bus stop.
