“Hi, sorry!” He stage whispers. “You couldn’t help me with my projector could you?”
He sighs and pushes to his feet, but the guy apparently can’t read the room at all because he fucking beams at Ed and holds the door open for him. And, ok, maybe Ed’s steps falter for just a moment because he’s not prepared for how fucking edible this guy is. All blonde waves, and soft smile and… fucking shoulders . He’s wearing a pale blue suit, a colour that’s probably called ‘robin’s egg’ or some shit, but the only thought in Ed’s brain is that he looks like a gift waiting to be unwrapped.
Ed drops his bowl into the dishwasher, and makes himself another cup of tea whilst he’s there, because, might as well. It’s only as he makes his way back to his classroom, through the now empty corridor, that he realises there’s a bit of an ache in his cheeks. And it’s only then that he realises he’s still smiling.
“It looks like teaching is another job where most meetings could easily have been an email,” he says. “‘Fraid so, mate,” Ed grins, and can’t resist resting his hand on Stede’s shoulder as he pushes away from the table. Warm. Broad. Solid. “And now I’m late for registration. Lovely,” Stede tuts.
“I’ll see you later,” he says more cheerfully as he fights his way through the crowd. Ed tries not to take it as a promise.
Today Stede’s wearing a suit that Ed had initially thought was a light grey. Now that he’s looking properly though he can tell that it’s actually a pale dusky purple. Ed loses control over his mental faculties for a moment when he idly wonders if Stede owns any clothes that don’t come with the connotation that he tastes like sherbet.
“There we go,” Stede says. “I hope I got it right. Seven sugars, isn’t it?” “I… yeah,” Ed stutters. “How did you…?” Stede brushes his question off with a hand wavy movement. “I paid attention, Edward.”
“Why do you have a fully stocked biscuit tin?” Ed asks, as Stede plucks out a Jammy Dodger and puts the tin on the desk, offering it to Ed. “Oh, I think sometimes a little sweet treat can really help you feel at ease. I thought it might be a good idea to have some on hand, you know, in case a student comes to me with a problem or a worry. Wants to talk things through.”
Ed almost jolts out of his seat when Stede slides a hand onto his thigh beneath the desk, leans in and breathes against his ear “ behave, Edward ”. -
