Alex is not even five years old when he first utters those words that he’ll repeat for almost 20 years with no luck of anyone believing him, or taking him seriously for that matter.
He rushes inside, his hair a mess, sand falling off from his shoes, cheeks all pink, and spots the person he’s been looking for since he left the playground five minutes ago.
“Bug, Bug!!!” He yells. “I got a boyfriend.”
But his excitement dies down when all he gets in response is a pat on his already unruly curls, messing them up even further. “Sure you did, Lil Bit.”
