Work Text:
Tali was walking to Shepard's room. Shepard had said they needed to talk Tali wasn't sure why but she didn't complain any chance she got to talk with Shepard one on one is a gift these days.
Shepard:Ah Tali come on in I just poured myself a drink, you want some?
Tali'Zorah: oh no thanks Shepard I'm not thirsty, so you mentioned you wanted to talk about something?
Shepard: Right so I-I uh wanted to ask you something for a while.
Tali'Zorah: and that would be?
Shepard: So I've been thinking, we don't know what's going to end up offing us and we probably don't have much time especially with The Reapers destroying half the damn galaxy.
Tali'Zorah: True with the every mission we are just buying ourselves a little more time but you know what the worst part is? The waiting every minute we do nothing the more anxious I get and the more people are being killed. Keelah we don't even know if the Crucible our only hope will even work it just feels hopeless.
Shepard: I know how you feel but we can't give up yet we have people counting on us so we have to have faith that the Crucible will work.
Tali'Zorah: I know but it just feels like the entire galaxy is against us. I'm sorry I interrupted you, you wanted to ask me something?
Shepard:Oh right I was thinking about how you mentioned back on Rannoch you said you wanted to build a home there for us.
Tali'Zorah: I remember and I fully intend to keep that promise.
Shepard:(laughs softly) I know love (Shepard smiled warmly at her) well it got me thinking we've been together for a little while now and I thought we could make it more official.
Tali'Zorah: Official how?
As Tali asked Shepard this in a questioning tone Shepard moved her pillow and pulled out a small black box she then got up moved in front of Tali and stepped down on one knee she opened the box revealing a beautiful ring made of metal with an engraving carved into it reading "to the one I hope to spend the rest of my time with in the stars".
Shepard: Tali'Zorah Vas Normandy will you spend the rest of the time we have left with me?
Tali felt her eyes tear up from behind her face plate as she stood up in surprise and in disbelief, she was already surprised enough that someone as amazing as Shepard loved and they have been together for a few years now but for that same person to want to proclaim her love to her in this way was overwhelming for her.
Tali'Zorah: YES, YES I WILL!
As she said this Shepard placed the ring on her finger she stood up and embraced Tali.
Shepard: You have no idea how relieved I am to hear that I thought for a moment that you would say no.
Tali'Zorah: I could never there is no one in this galaxy I would rather be with then you, Keelah my heart feels like its going to explode in my chest!
As they sat down on the bed Shepard moved her hand to Tali's faceplate getting ready to take it off.
Shepard: May I?
Tali'Zorah: Of course my love.
As Shepard removed the face plate to Tali's helmet she kissed her softly and deeply. After what felt like an eternity of peace and happiness Shepard pulled away her tone changing from happiness to somber and sad.
Shepard: You have to let go.
Tali'Zorah: Shepard.....what do you mean,I don't understand?
The room slowly began to fade away as Shepard began to crumble into dust and dried off
Shepard: Its been over a year Tali my love you have to let go.
Tali's heart shatters as she watches Shepard fade away before her eyes, her breath catching in her throat as tears blur her vision.
Tali'Zorah: No....Shepard,please...
Her voice breaks, choked with grief as she reaches out desperately, longing to hold onto the fleeting remnants of their love.
Tali'Zorah:Don't leave me...
Tali's eyes flutter open, her heart heavy with the weight of grief as she finds herself alone in their bed aboard the Normandy. She reaches out instinctively, her fingers brushing against the familiar surface of the bedside table. As she turns her head, her gaze falls upon a cherished memento, a picture of her and Shepard, radiant and happy on their wedding day.
The floodgates of emotion open as tears stream down Tali's cheeks, her body racked with sobs as she clutches the photograph to her chest. Memories of their time together wash over her, each moment etched into her heart with an agonizing clarity.
Tali'Zorah: Shepard...
Her voice is a broken whisper, filled with longing and sorrow.
Tali'Zorah: I miss you, so much...
As she says this she cries herself back to sleep hoping one day she could feel the arms of the only person who could comfort her once again.
