Work Text:
There was a new agent at Invisible Inc and Prism could not contain her excitement since learning about it. The new girl, whose name she didn’t even know yet, had already been sent out on a mission with Internationale, and Prism was restless, awaiting their return.
She barged onto Nika’s daily training, “I need to know everything about –” she didn’t get to finish before she was sent flying, hitting the ground with a bounce.
“Ow-ow-ow…”
“You know not to interrupt my training,” Nika helped her up.
“The new agent,” not losing track of her priorities, but still rubbing her aching bum, “What do you know about her?”
“Ah, the hero.”
“Hero, you say?” the word brought sparkles to her eyes. Nika nodded.
“Something about helping rebuild her hometown. They call her Banks.”
Banks…
“Hey!”
Banks snapped back to reality. She'd successfully completed her first assignment and then… hm. Well, clearly she'd been standing there blanking out for some time.
“You're the new agent, right? Banks, is it?”
“And you are…”
“Prism,” she offered her hand. The grip was firm and her skin soft… “If you ever need help around here, you can ask me!”
“Sure…”
It was unclear what the woman's motivations were… in any case, she didn't want a babysitter, so she made a move to leave, but Prism rambled on.
“Say, what about we hang out together, all four of us ladies?”
Uh? What?
“You know, to get to know each other better!”
Wait, was she for real?
“I…”
“I'll go ask Maria and Nika, you'll see, there's this bar in town, nice drinks, not too loud, it's perfect!”
“Well…”
“Great! See you later!”
The whirlwind in the shape of a woman vanished, and somehow, a few hours later, Banks was sitting at a booth with the other three agents.
As the evening progressed, she started to learn more about them…
She was introduced to Nika, a towering woman that appeared cold and scary at first, and while neither went away, there was more to her than that, as her quiet demeanor melted once asked about combat techniques.
Conversation with Maria was never dull. She had strong political views, and never apologized for that. Banks shared her anti-corporate inclination, although talking with her had a tendency to quickly get a little… intense.
And Prism… she had this way of occupying the space that was fascinating. Her words, her presence, she knew how to draw attention to herself. It was… a little comforting. Banks herself didn't like being in the spotlight.
Most of all, she thought to herself… these three are freaks. Maybe she'll fit in here just fine.
