Work Text:

Dazai Osamu stood at the edge of the Port Mafia headquarters, the city of Yokohama sprawling beneath him. The night was cold, but the chill that gripped his heart was far more profound. His thoughts were a tangled web of anger and grief, each thread leading back to one man: Mori Ougai.

Odasaku's death had been the final straw. Dazai had witnessed too many betrayals, too much bloodshed orchestrated by Mori. Odasaku, his closest friend, had been used and discarded like a pawn. The grief and rage within Dazai had been simmering ever since, a volatile mixture that threatened to erupt at any moment.

And then, there was Chuuya. The hot-headed, fiercely loyal partner whom Dazai had come to respect, even care for in his own twisted way. Mori's latest scheme had been to send Chuuya on a mission so perilous it was almost certain death. Dazai couldn’t stand idly by. He'd intervened, ensuring Chuuya missed the assignment, but it had pushed him to his breaking point.

Tonight, he would end it.

---

In Mori's lavish office, the atmosphere was tense. Mori sat behind his ornate desk, a smug smile playing on his lips as he reviewed the night's reports. The door creaked open, and Dazai entered, his presence like a dark storm cloud rolling into the room.

"Dazai," Mori greeted, looking up. "To what do I owe this unexpected visit?"

Dazai's eyes were cold, devoid of the usual glint of mischief. "We need to talk, Mori."

Mori raised an eyebrow. "Oh? About what, pray tell?"

"About Odasaku. About Chuuya. About all the lives you've thrown away for your twisted games."

Mori's smile widened. "Ah, so that's what this is about. You're still hung up on Odasaku's death. It was a necessary sacrifice, Dazai. As for Chuuya, he's a tool—"

Dazai's hand shot forward, gripping Mori by the collar and slamming him against the wall with a force that rattled the room. Mori's eyes widened in shock.

"Necessary sacrifice?" Dazai hissed, his voice low and venomous. "You use people like they're disposable. But not anymore."

Mori's laugh was cut short by a punch to the gut, followed by another to the face. Blood spattered across the desk as Dazai's blows rained down. Mori tried to reach for a hidden blade, but Dazai was faster, twisting Mori's arm until there was a sickening snap.

"You've lost your mind," Mori gasped, spitting blood.

"No," Dazai replied, a manic grin spreading across his face. "I've found my purpose."

With a final, brutal twist, Dazai snapped Mori's neck. The room fell silent, the air heavy with the scent of blood and violence. Dazai stood over Mori's lifeless body, his chest heaving, eyes wild.

The door burst open, and Chuuya stormed in, having heard the commotion. He froze, eyes wide with horror as he took in the scene: Mori's broken body, the blood, and Dazai standing there, a dark, triumphant smile on his face.

"Dazai... what have you done?" Chuuya's voice was barely a whisper, his usual bravado stripped away by the sheer brutality before him.

Dazai turned to face him, his smile softening slightly. "Everything's going to be okay now, Chuuya. The nightmare is over."

Chuuya took a step back, his mind reeling. The presence that Dazai exuded was terrifying, a palpable darkness that seemed to seep into the room.

"You... killed him," Chuuya said, struggling to process it all.

"Yes," Dazai replied simply. "It had to be done. Mori was a poison, and I... I am the antidote."

As the reality of Mori's death settled in, the weight of the situation began to shift. The Port Mafia had lost its leader, but in his place stood Dazai, a figure both feared and respected. The members of the Mafia would need to adapt, to follow a new leader who promised a different kind of rule.

Dazai stepped over Mori's body, approaching Chuuya. He placed a hand on his shoulder, a rare gesture of genuine affection. "Stay with me, Chuuya. Together, we can rebuild the Port Mafia into something better."

Chuuya, still shaken, nodded slowly. Despite the fear, a small part of him believed in Dazai's vision. "Alright. But if you ever become like him... I'll kill you myself."

Dazai chuckled, a dark but genuine laugh. "Fair enough."

And so, under the cold light of the moon, a new era for the Port Mafia began. One led by Dazai Osamu, a man who had embraced the shadows to bring about change. The path ahead was uncertain, but one thing was clear: the old ways were dead, and a new dawn was on the horizon.

Notes:

I feel like if Odasaku didn't say his last words then Dazai would've had it.
