References, Acronyms, Terms, Translations, Idioms…
Author's Note:
This is a very long story, with many terms and acronyms. My military training taught me to provide a reference for acronyms and unfamiliar terms. This is more than that.
I acknowledge that many of my readers do not speak English as a first language, and quite a few of my readers are from other Nations. I get that. Military culture is different from civilian culture, even in the US, there is a cultural gap.
I addressed this by identifying idioms, slang, and military slang and referencing them here. This way, when you see a phrase... 'full of his oats' or 'icing on the cake'... and don’t get it, you can look it up here. This shows the intent behind the phrase used.
If you haven't figured it out, Jack O'Neill is a character of contradictions. He hates clichés, but speaks in idioms. Worse, the taught Teal'c to love them too.

This is broken down into two parts. This first list holds everything listed in this story EXCEPT the Ancient words and phrases (in Latin). I compiled those in another list. This list is based on the Latin alphabet, but does not include the actual Latin. It does include Goa’uld, Afrikaans, Acronyms, Terms, Phrases, Idioms, American Slang, Military Slang, and Stargate Specific Terms, Locations, Species, Equipment, etc…
Latin/Roman (Alphabet Type)
3D - Acronym. Three Dimensions. Used to describe a digital image that displays all three dimensions of the object.
Aa
A Good Day To Die - Idiom. An expression of willingness and even eagerness to give one's life in the name of one's cause.
Afstammeling Van Die Gode - Afrikaans. Descendant of the Gods. Used by the Lucian Alliance to indicate a person who can activate Alteran technology. Descendant of the Ancients. Active Ancient Gene. Ancient Technology Activation (ATA) gene.
AI – Acronym. Artificial Intelligence.
All's Well That Ends Well - Idiom. Used to say that a person can forget about how unpleasant or difficult something was because everything ended in a good way.
Alterans - Species. Fictional Species name for race of beings that inhabited the Milky Way Galaxy for millions of years. They evolved in the Ori Galaxy. They were originally Alterans and shared a race with the original Ori. They fled persecution from the Ori to the Milky Way Galaxy. Due to a plague that wiped out life in the Milky Way Galaxy, they seeded life throughout the Galaxy. They are known as the first evolution of humans. Modern humans are the second evolution of humans. They are also known as Alterans, Lanteans, Ancients.
AM – Acronym. Ante Meridiem.
Ancient – Species. Fictional. Species name for race of beings that inhabited the Milky Way Galaxy for millions of years. They evolved in the Ori Galaxy. They were originally Alterans and shared a race with the original Ori. They fled persecution from the Ori to the Milky Way Galaxy. Due to a plague that wiped out life in the Milky Way Galaxy, they seeded life throughout the Galaxy. They are known as the first evolution of humans. Modern humans are the second evolution of humans. They are also known as Alterans, Lanteans, Ancients.
Ancient Repository - Device. Fictional. 1) Visual device the Ancients use to store large amounts of data in one place. The untrained can download the entire database accidentally. 2) AU Device allows the Ancients to sort their genetic memory more easily.
Area 51 - Location. The US Air Force has utilized this test base to conduct Top-Secret research projects. It is located in the Nevada Test and Training Range and is remotely administered by Edwards AFB. It is officially called the Groom Lake Facility. This is the base that tested the SR-71 before it was a known airframe. It is rumored to also be the secret location for testing and reverse-engineering alien aircraft.
Artificial Intelligence – Term. 1) the capacity of a computer, robot, programmed device, or software application to perform operations and tasks analogous to learning and decision making in humans. 2) a computer, robot, programmed device, or software application having this humanlike capacity. 3) the branch of computer science involved with the design of computers, robots, programmed devices, and software applications with the capacity to imitate human intelligence and thought.
ASAP - Acronym. As Soon As Possible.
ATA Gene – Term. Fictional. Acronym. Ancient Technology Activation Gene. DNA sequence that allows a human user to interface with Ancient Technology.
Atlantis – Location. Technology. Fictional. 1) Location of the lost City of Atlantis. The last known location of the Ancients. 2) AU. A City Ship named Atlantis with a controlling AI.
Bb
Bait and Switch – Term. The action (generally illegal) of advertising goods or services to substitute different goods, usually inferior.
Bazroto - Location. Fictional. Home planet of the Lucian Alliance. Stolen from Earth from the pirate city of Bazroto off the coast of Africa.
BDU – Acronym. Battle Dress Uniform.
Bloedlyn van die Gode - Afrikaans. Bloodline of the Gods. Used by the Lucian Alliance to indicate a legendary person who could activate Alteran Technology.
Brass - Term. Military Term. Refers to high-ranking military officials. Usually refers to all ranking military above you.
Broca Virus - Virus. Fictional. Disease that regresses the human mind to a primitive state. Defeated using anti-histamines.
BS - Acronym. 1) Bull Shit. Common cuss word in the US. The acronym is also common. 2) College Degree. Bachelors of Science.
Cc
C-section - Term. Cesarean Section. A surgical procedure involving creating an incision in the walls of the abdomen and uterus for the delivery of offspring.
CGI - Acronym. Computer Graphic Imaging.
Chappa’ai – Goa'uld. Device. Fictional. Main device created by the Alterans to create a stable wormhole to other planets. Other Names: Stargate, Chappa'ai, Anulus, Portal, Doorway to Heaven, Doorway to Hell, Ring.
Clindamycin – Drug. Clindamycin is an antibiotic that fights bacteria in the body. Clindamycin is used to treat serious infections caused by bacteria.
CO - Acronym. 1. Commanding Officer. Officer in Command of a Unit or direct superior to another officer or enlisted service member. 2. Acronym. State of Colorado. USA.
Command - Drug. Fictional. AU. Used to ensure the victim executes an action demanded by the administrator of the drug. Victim will strive to complete the command.
Control - Drug. Fictional. AU. Used to ensure that the victim does exactly what the administrator tells them to do. Drug severely limits the autonomy of the victim. The administrator cannot leave the controlled person.

DHD – Acronym. Dial Home Device.
Dienaar - Afrikaans. Servant. Term used in by the Lucian Alliance to indicate an indentured skilled worker who is trusted with some tasks.
DNA - Acronym. Deoxyribonucleic Acid. Protein chain is the unique identifier for each individual.
Dog Tags - Item. Identification Tags issues to every member of the US military for the purpose of identifying the remains of service members after they are found. Unconscious or dead.
Dr - Acronym. Doctor. Usually in reference to a fully trained physician, but can also refer to anyone with a PhD.

Embrace the Suck – Idiom. Phrase. Slang. Military slang. Make the best of any situation.
Ff
Full of (One's) Oats - Idiom. 1) To be very active and energetic. 2) To be aware of one's own power or importance.

Geskoolde - Afrikaans. Skilled. Skilled slave. Indentured to the Lucian Alliance.
Get The Party Started - Idiom. 1) Literally, to begin doing really fun, entertaining things at a party. 2) By extension, to begin engaging in some action or activity with intensity, determination, or enthusiasm.
Goa’uld - Goa'uld. Species name for symbiotes. Usually refers to symbiotes who have taken a host. They prefer to be called gods.
Gode - Afrikaans. Gods. Plural form.
Gode se Bloedlyn - Afrikaans. Gods’ Bloodline.
Hh
Ha’tak – Goa'uld. Fictional. Ship. Goa'uld large mothership. Attack ship. Capable of orbital attack.
Honde - Afrikaans. Hound. Male dog. 1) Slave designation in Lucian Alliance. It was used to indicate indentured male slaves that were either used for breeding or for sex with female clients. Male breeding slave.
Hydroponics – Term. 1)The cultivation of plants by placing the roots in liquid nutrient solutions rather than in soil. 2) To grow plants without the soil. 3) Section of a vessel dedicated to cultivating plants.
Hyperspace – Term. Fictional. A method of travel by a spaceship that allows the vessel to travel at Faster Than Light (FTL) speeds by entering another dimension known as hyperspace. The spaceship isn’t actually traveling faster than the speed of light, but rather is using of hyperspace as a shortcut, and the hyperdrive is the mechanism that shunts the spaceship into and out of this parallel dimension.

ID – Acronym. Identification.
Icing on the Cake – Idiom. 1) When something good is added to another good thing that you already have. 2) An extra enhancement. 3) An additional benefit on an already good thing. 4) Something that makes a good situation even better. 5) An attractive but often unessential addition to something.
Inspire - Drug. Fictional. Drug given to make the victim open to suggestion by the administrator. Does not enable the victim to take actions against their beliefs. Victim may take instructions from anyone present, not just the administrator.
Iratus – Insect. Fictional. The Iratus insect is a creature that lives on a planet in the Pegasus Galaxy. The bite of the Iratus insect is known to mutate the DNA of the affected individual. This is the known method that created the Wraith in the Pegasus Galaxy.

Kick the Hornet's Nest - Idiom. 1) A dangerous, complicated situation. 2) A situation that produces angry reactions.
Kinder - Afrikaans. Child. Children. Used by Lucian Alliance to identify children in their acquisition raids. Children can become indentured or sold as infants to childless couples.
Kull Warriors - Term. Fictional. Warriors created by Anubis with very resistant armor and driven by a blank, half dead, symbiote. Short lifespan. Very difficult to defeat.

Leeu - Afrikaans. Lion. Fictional. 1) Alien animal that is natural to Bazroto. Animal appears to be a cross between a wolf and a lion. Walks on all fours. Large claws. Pack structure. May have the ability to turn invisible. Animal with a vindictive streak. Protected on the Lucian Alliance Homeworld. 2) Used by the Lucian Alliance to indicate a man with behaviors like the leeu animal. Vindictive. Unstoppable.
Loc'mel - Goa'uld. Fictional. Fighting style used by the Jaffa. Similar to Tai Chi.
Lucian Alliance – Mafia. Fictional. The Lucian Alliance is a known human criminal organization that operates like a galactic mafia. AU Lucian Alliance is responsible for conducting slave raids and brokering sex slave ships.
Mm
M-9 - Firearm designation. Used for the current issue Military Pistol that fires a 9mm round.
Mami Wata – African Deity. Mami Wata (also Mamba Muntu, Water Mother, La Sirene, Mama Glo, Mama de Aqua, and Watramama) is a water spirit venerated in West, Central, and Southern Africa. Mami Wata spirits are usually female. She embodies the aspects of water, sex, healing, and fertility.
Medies - Afrikaans. Medial. To give medical attention. Person with medical knowledge. Used by the Lucian Alliance to denote those people with medical skill.
Midgard – Asgard. Asgard name for Earth. Occasionally seen in human history related to the Asgard.
MS - Acronym. Masters of Science.

Naquadah – Fictional. Metal. Metal element in the Stargate Universe. The metal is highly conductive and explosive at high temperatures. Stronger than steel. In its elemental form, it permeates the bodies of the Goa’uld and their hosts. It enables the Goa’uld to channel energy to their devices, giving the appearance of gods to their followers.
NID – Acronym. National Intelligence Division.
No Shit Sherlock – Idiom. Rude. Slang. That is or was completely obvious or self-evident. The ironical reference to the fictional detective Sherlock Holmes is meant to emphasis that the thing mentioned did not require any great intelligence or deduction to determine or know.
Nooiens - Afrikaans. Virgins. Young women with no sexual experience.
Oo
Obansam – Fictional. Followers or priests of Owuo, God of Death.
One Thing Leads To Another – Idiom. Phrase. An event or activity results in another event or activity that you have not planned. Progression of events that led to the current situation.
Owuo – African Deity. Owuo is the abosom of Death. Focused following in West Ghana, East Ghana, the Ewe, Togo, Asante, and Akan tribes. He was created by Odomankoma to kill humans and other deities. He signifies the termination of the creative process in the world.

P-90 - Weapon. Military name for type of rifle used in small arms combat.
Piece of Work – Idiom. A remarkably difficult, malicious, unpleasant, or objectionable person.
PhD - Acronym. 1) Doctor of Philosophy. The academic degree, title, or rank. 2) a person who has earned the academic degree of doctor of philosophy.
PM – Acronym. Post Meridiem.
Portal - Device. Fictional. The main device created by the Alterans to create a stable wormhole for other planets. Other Names: Stargate, Chappa'ai, Anulus, Portal, Doorway to Heaven, Doorway to Hell, Ring.
PTSD – Acronym. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Rr
Rein - Drug. Fictional. A drug used by the Lucian Alliance to ensure the compliance of their labor stock. Enables the victim to follow general orders by the administrator without limiting the knowledge base or constant supervision. Allows the victim to complete the instructions with some autonomy.
Regression - Drug. Fictional. Drug used by the Lucian Alliance to eliminate the resistance of the males they use to breed females in their breeding program. Reduces male to an 'eat, threat, fuck' mental state.
Replicators – Fictional. Species. Name given to a non-organic life form that consumes all available resources and replicates blocks that form larger and more complex mechanisms. They react violently to being stopped. They are a scourge in the Ida Galaxy. They were originally from the Milky Way Galaxy and an Asgard scientist took them back to Ida. They eventually evolved to form “Human form Replicators” composed of nanite blocks.
Rotte - Afrikaans. Rat. Mild swear word. Cussing.
Ss
Seks - Afrikaans. Sex. Sex slave. Used by the Lucian Alliance to indicate those indentured for sex use. Sex slaves. Priority goes to making a profit for the Holding. Not the care of the slaves.
SG - Acronym. Stargate. Usually used with specific team numbers.
SGC - Acronym. Stargate Command.
Slawe veg - Afrikaans. Fighting slave. Gladiator. Indentured. Used by the Lucian Alliance to entertain in the fighting pits.
SOB - Acronym. Son of a Bitch. Mild swear word.
Stargate - Device. Fictional. The main device created by the Alterans to create a stable wormhole for other planets. Other Names: Chappa'ai, Anulus, Portal, Doorway to Heaven, Doorway to Hell, Ring.
Submit - Drug. Fictional. Drug used by the Lucian Alliance to ensure that the victim submits to the commands of the administrator even if the victim will become injured or it is against their core beliefs.
Swanger - Afrikaans. Pregnant [woman]. Female breeding slave. Indentured to the Lucian Alliance. Kept caged.
System Lord - Fictional. Goa'uld Rank. Indicates the status of a Goa'uld who has sworn allegiance to a High System Lord and is given the care of one or more planets to manage for the High System Lord. This Goa'uld may or may not have their own Jaffa. All usually have a lo'taur.

Takbok - Afrikaans. Deer.
Tano – African Deity. Tano (Tanoɛ, Ta Kora, Tano Kora/Akora, Tando) represents the aspects of war and strife, Thunder and Lightning, and the Tano River. He also represents the aspects of chaos and mass destruction.
Tau’ri – Goa'uld. 1) Human (singular). To indicate a human from Earth. People of Earth (plural). 2) The First World. Goa’uld name for Earth.
That Ship Has Sailed – Idiom. That possibility or option is no longer available or likely.

UAV – Acronym. Unmanned Aerial Vehicle.
USA - Acronym. 1) United States of America. 2) US Army.
Vv
Verpleegvroue - Afrikaans. Nursing women. Indentured. Used to single out women who have a child. The child will be converted to formula and the woman moved to breeder or sex status after the child is removed.
Villam Tatum – Location. Fictional. AU The large village of Villam Tatum is located on the planet Domum. They met the people of Earth through SG-1. Earth upgraded their naquadah mine and extensively traded with the people there in knowledge and resources to acquire their naquadah. The people of Villam Tatum have legends about the Ancestors (Ancients) who lived with them in the past.
VR - Acronym. Virtual Reality.
Vrou (Vroue) - Afrikaans. Woman. (Women - Plural vroue). Used by the Lucian Alliance to indicate any female. Slightly derogatory.

Walk on Eggshells – Idiom. Phrase. To be very careful not to offend or upset someone.
Water Under The Bridge - Idiom. Used to refer to events or situations that are in the past and consequently no longer to be regarded as important or as a source of concern.
Werknemer - Afrikaans. Worker. Employee. AU. Free. Loyal to the Lucian Alliance. Allowed to change ranks within the Lucian Alliance.
Wormhole X-treme - TV Show. Fictional. Production by Martin Floyd to help divert attention from the Stargate Project. Jack was temporary USAF advisor to the show.
Wraith – Species. Fictional. The Wraith are a predatory species that were created in the past when the Alterans inhabited the Pegasus Galaxy. They eventually went to war with the Wraith. After 100 years, the Alterans were losing this war. They fled back to the Milky Way Galaxy and eventually Ascended.

Yada, Yada - Idiom. The following words are boring or empty talk. Repetitive. Used interjectionally. To recount words regarded as too dull or predictable to be worth repeating.
Zz
Za’tarc – Goa'uld. Mind control. Programmed Assassin. Also used to describe the devices used to identify the person who is mind controlled and the device used to detect the brain washing used.
Zat - Slang. Goa'uld. Device. Weapon. Fictional. Short term for the zat'ni'katel. Zats – plural. Zatted – action to zat someone.

Antiquas (Ancient - Latin )
Notes on the Ancient spoken in this story. Canon has Ancient being an archaic form of Latin. I extrapolated it. I didn't WRITE in Ancient… although there is a font for that… but I did use Latin and Latin translators to generate these translations. I included a short translation [in brackets] to assist the reader in understanding the Ancient without having to reference this section every single time. My understanding of Latin is VERY limited. Please correct me if you know more than the basics (i.e. Duolingo).
