Work Text:
The evening sun illuminated the room in a soft, golden glow. A forgotten glass of water sparkled, tiny little rainbows flickering across the table. Discarded work clothes were tossed haphazardly around the room, clutter from a lived in room covered the desks and walls.
Fairy lights hung strung around the bookcase filled with various titles ranging from self-help to cook books in different languages.
Cat laid shamelessly sprawled on the windowsill, stomach facing up toward the sun like a fluffy solar panel.
Astrid’s head was comfortably situated on a warm chest, a comforting familiar heartbeat thudding against the shell of her ear. An earbud had fallen out of her ear, and from it she could hear the faint buzz of the audio through her phone.
Xyx laid beneath her, hand absentmindedly tangled in soft golden hair. The other held a book midway finished, Astrid wasn’t sure what the context was, but from quick glances it looked like a historical novel.
A peaceful quiet accompanied them in the room, it was the first time all week the two of them had a chance to relax together. Astrid had been so busy with a new project at work, and Xyx was always busy, but what seemed to happen once a blue moon, the two of them were off work with no expectations on a Friday night. Too tired to go anywhere, they decided to order in- remains of chinese food still littered the kitchen counter, bowls of rice soaking up warm sunlight, pairs of grease stained chopsticks resting along the rim of the bowl.
The sounds of their conversation and laughter still echoed the house, sweet nothing coated their words- a few times Xyx tried to trip up Astrid with tongue twisters he knew she couldn’t say. She laughed so hard her cheeks still felt sore.
Now they were continuing to do nothing, separately, but together. It was moments like these Astrid cherished the most. It felt natural, comfortable. The comfort of two people who lived together, and held no expectations. When they were apart, Astrid found herself longing for it. All she needed was to close her eyes and imagine the feeling of resting against Xyx, the peacefulness of their shared home, and she felt instantly better.
Glancing up from her phone, Astrid took the time to soak in his peaceful expression. No signature smirk, no professional smile, just a soft- contented lidded expression as he concentrated on his book. He was so handsome, the sunlight made his eyes seem like they were sparkling. Two green gems richer than any mined gemstone. Stray hairs brushed over his lashes, soft skin that trailed down to his neck, sharp jawline that Astrid adored peppering in kisses whenever she could. She could stare at him all day and never get tired of it, her eyes held nothing but adoration as she gazed at him- phone completely forgotten.
If he noticed, he made no sign of it, so Astrid savored it. Following his intense gaze, she looked at his book, half curious as to what he was reading.
Unknowingly, the phone slipped from her hand and landed face down on the mattress, but Astrid didn’t notice. Her eyes scanned the pages, slowly getting engrossed in the story.
Xyx shifted to turn the page, and Astrid started, reaching out to stop him. “I was reading that!” She protested, surprising not only herself, but Xyx as well.
He glanced at her, brows slightly raised. Sheepishly, Astrid leaned to move her hand back, when the hand in her hair left its position to grasp hers. Glancing to him, their eyes met and Astrid nearly melted at the warmth in his gaze. A soft, caring smile was on his pretty lips, and Astrid suddenly wanted to lean in and taste them.
“Of course love, I’ll slow down.” He rumbled, his accent making her stomach flip in excitement. She leaned in to press a soft kiss against his lips. He smiled, which made her smile against him. Gently, he kissed back, leaving her lips to plant loving kisses on her cheek and right under the ballpoint of her jaw.
A quiet laugh left her at the sensation, and she sank back against his chest, pulling the earbud that was still in her ear out.
“Thanks.” She whispered, still smiling as she felt Xyx run his fingers over her knuckles.
He hummed in response, and Astrid felt her heart soar.
The sun continued to set, the darkness overtaking the sky, but the warmth from the two of them was bright enough to make up for it.
