Ding Liu envied Ye Liuxi's ability to drop off to sleep anywhere. She hadn't thought she was particularly spoiled, but she was used to proper beds with mattresses and blankets. When they reached the inn and finally had one, she'd expected to fall asleep immediately.
Instead, she lay awake in the darkness, wildly aware of Ye Liuxi comfortably sprawled out next to her, and tried not to spend too much time looking at her face. Ye Liuxi looked so much younger in her sleep, so much more approachable, and Ding Liu had been failing to avoid falling a little bit in love with her from the first time they'd met.
It was the only excuse for why Ding Liu leans over, heart racing, and brushes her lips against Ye Liuxi's.
She's already curled up with her back to Ye Liuxi, pretending to be asleep, when Ye Liuxi rouses with a mumbled question. Ding Liu doesn't move, even as Ye Liuxi sighs and shifts a little so that her shoulder brushes against Ding Liu's.
In the morning, Ye Liuxi smiles at her and calls her "little thief" very fondly, to everyone else's confusion.
Ding Liu blushes and says nothing, even as Ye Liuxi presses a kiss to her cheek. She doesn't know what it means just yet, but maybe tonight she'll find out
