Chapter 18: Prom Shopping

Chapter Text

Lucy

*****

“Please, please, please, please, please!”

I pinch the bridge of my nose. At this point, they’re both begging. “Lucy, we need your approval on everything we buy!” Es whines. “Yeah! Like, I don’t wanna waste my time or… money on stuff and then find out you don’t like it.” Mina snaps. I feel my eye twitching. If these two won’t stop shouting, I’ll never get my work done like this.

“Quiet down, both of you. Fine, I will accompany you.” I say. “YES!” Mina and Es cheer, “Thanks Lucy.” Mina points finger guns at me. “You’re the best!” Es says while winking. They both leave my office.

I have zero sense of fashion and I’m still not sure how my approval is going to be beneficial to them. “I suppose they managed to persuade you?” I sigh and close my laptop, before looking at Lucifer. “They were practically begging, so I had no other choice.”

Lucifer nods, “Shall I also accompany you? I hear Mammon and Asmo are also going, and in order to keep an eye on both of them, I believe I should also join in.”

I nod, “Of course, I don’t see why not.” I stand up and head out. “Let’s go, they’re waiting for us.”

~

“Did you… really have to choose the car, Lucy?” I look at Mina from the rear-view mirror. “There is no petrol in the van.” I simply say and continue driving. Lucifer is sitting beside me quietly, while Mammon, Mina, Asmodeus and Es are stuffed at the back.

“Mina, you are ruining my skirt, stop sitting on it!” Es snaps. “Well, maybe you shouldn’t have worn something so long and quit screaming in my ear!” Mina snaps back. My grip on the steering wheel tightens.

“Asmo, give me the AUX cable! You’re putting some real shitty songs.” Mammon shouts. “Nuh-uh! The songs YOU listen to are even worse!” Asmodeus retorts back. I catch Lucifer clenching his fists.

“It all would’ve been better if we were in the van.” Es grumbles. “Well, who’s fault is it that the petrol finished, huh? You kept asking Lucy to make too many stops at too many places!” Mina scolds Es. “Stop blaming me! You were the one who asked her to stop by the ATM and you wasted most of our time there!” Es screams back.

“Well, that’s because this idiot was also there, and he was taking too much time withdrawing his money!” Mina argues. “Oi, who you calling an idiot, princess?” Mammon snaps at Mina, “I told you not to call me princess! And Asmo, will you stop touching my hair?” Asmodeus giggles, “Oops, sorry. My hand accidentally went there.”

I can hear Mammon growl, “OI! Hands off, Asmo!” Asmodeus clicks his tongue, “Why do you care, Mammon?” Mammon scoffs, “Damn right, I do, you lustful bastard-”

“ENOUGH.”

I stop the car and glare at all of them. Lucifer does the same, the red hue in his eyes slightly more prominent now. They all clam up and avoid eye contact. “If I hear you two argue again, then I will not hesitate in dropping you off in the middle of nowhere.” I warn Mina and Es, and they nod quickly.

“Mammon. Asmo. Behave yourselves before I resort to unpleasant measures.” Lucifer’s voice booms as he glares daggers at his brothers. “S-sorry, we’ll be quiet!” Mammon says.

I face forward and begin driving again. Sometimes, they just drive me crazy…

We reach the mall and get off the car, after I turn it off, pulling out the keys. “Oooh, time for some shopping! ~” Es claps her hands together.

Despite it being the end of November, the weather is mildly warm. I sigh in relief once the cold air from the air conditioner embraces me. “So, where to first? I say we go to Chic Aura!” Mina says. I shake my head, “No. This shopping is for prom, we don’t need expensive outfits, Mina.” Mina frowns while Es puts a hand under her chin, “How about GlamSpire? They have decent clothing for women.” I nod, “Sounds good. And what about the exchange students?” Mina raises her hand, “Elite M. Best choice, in my opinion.” I slightly smile at that. “Alright then, let’s head to Elite M-”

“Oh no no… ladies first!” Asmodeus exclaims and Es giggles, “Hehe, of course! Let’s go to GlamSpire!”

I follow them as we ascend through the escalator, reaching the first floor. There it is, GlamSpire.

We enter the shop and look around. “Ladies, what may I get you? Oh, it’s you Es! Welcome back!” Es and the girl hug. “I see you brought your sisters, this time.” She says, smiling brightly at us. “Yup. This is Lucy, she’s the eldest and that’s Mina, the second oldest.” Mina barely glances, “Sup.” I roll my eyes, and smile politely at the girl, “Pleasure to meet you.” The girl nods, “My name is Grace. I own this place and Es is my number one customer here.”

“Does she get discount here?” I glare at Mina. “Sometimes. I see you have brought gentlemen with you. Care to share your names?”

“My name’s Ma-”

“Marcus! He’s Marcus.” Mina quickly interjects. Mammon blinks, “What, that’s not-” Mina grabs his arm, “Come on, Marcus. Let’s look at the items here.” Mina drags Mammon, “Oi, what gives? Quit dragging me!”

Grace looks between all of us, “Well, nevermind. Anything you all like in particular? Take a look around and I’ll help in altering the dress, however you want.”

Es and Mina eye each and every dress, while me, Lucifer, Mammon and Asmo sit on the benches.

“Lucy, how about this one?” Es looks at me and I raise my eyebrow, “No.” Es pouts, “Aww, but it’s so glittery and perfect!” Mina comes up beside her, “Save it, Es. She’ll never wear anything that’ll expose her, so here’s what I got.” Mina shows her pick to me.

I study it. It’s red and long, enough to reach till my feet. The sleeves are long and puffed. The only thing that irks me is the cleavage. “Yup, I knew you’d notice that. So, check this out.” Mina places a black turtle-neck next to it. “See? No see-through, perfect for winters, plus you can wear some nice jewelry with this, it’s long and simple.”

I smile slightly at Mina; she really does know me well… “I’ll take it.” I say. Mina nods, “Sweet!”

Mina sits beside me, checking something on her phone, while Es rummages through the shop. “Aha, here it is!” Es rushes out. “Ta-da! This is for Liv! What do you think, Lucy?” I inspect the dress. It is purple and its length is the same as mine. It has a high neck, long sleeves and an elegant design on the collar and sleeves. I nod, “Looks fine to me.” Es nods and places it on the counter.

“I’ll go get Sasha’s dress.” Mina says. “Man, just how long will you girls take, huh? We, gentlemen, also have to get some shopping done, you know?” Mammon says, his hands behind his head. “Gentleman? You?” Mina asks over her shoulder and Mammon scoffs.

Mina returns back with a dark green lacey dress. “Sasha’s all about looking decent and someone responsible, right? So, this dress should do the trick. It’s only above her ankles, full sleeves and is layered too, enough to keep her warm.” I nod at Mina’s words. “If you think it’s perfect for her, then add it to the pile.” I say and she does so.

“Mina, you go and pick the twins’ outfits, too.” Es remarks. “Got it.” Mina heads back to the aisles.

Mina comes out with an orange dress, angling it towards me. The dress is knee-low, it has thin straps… which means too much skin will be exposed. I open my mouth to say no, but Mina holds her finger up, “I know, I know. So, I found this.” Mina places a black see-through petticoat on top of it, with an orange collar and ribbon. Moreover, it has orange maple leaves as its design. I nod, “I suppose that would work.” Mina nods and places it on the counter.

She heads back inside to get a dress for Belle. Although, I doubt she’d wear one. She’s the only tomboy out of us. Even Mina wears dresses when the occasion calls for it, but Belle? She’d wear coat and pants.

Mina returns, “Now this is perfect for my tough baby sister!” Mina shows the outfit off to me. It is a dress shirt; it has lantern sleeves and is in light blue. On top of it, a black denim dress, with thick straps that have belt buckles on it. That would reach till her calves and look great on Belle. “Oooh, that is so chic. It’s perfect for Belle.” Es says, feeling the fabric. “I know, right?”

“I suppose it’s time to pick up your dresses, right?” I ask, standing up and Es nods. “Oh yes! Come on, Lucy!” I follow Mina and Es. “So, this outfit is just perfect for Mina!” Mina scowls, “Are you kidding? That thing will barely go past my thighs!”

I clear my throat, “Lower your volumes, both of you. Do you want the demon brothers to listen to you?” Mina shakes her head, “I am not wearing that.” Es nods, “Here, how about this one?” Mina checks the outfit. It’s a simple black dress, its length is not too short and not too long either, most probably knee low. The straps are thick enough to cover her shoulders and her back won’t be exposed either. I nod at Mina, “It looks fine to me.” Mina contemplates before nodding, “Fine, I’ll have this one. As long as it doesn’t expose my skin too much.”

“And now, my turn!” Es shows me her dress. A pink off-shoulder dress… This will barely cover her thighs… I shake my head, “Don’t you think it’s a bit too short?” Mina raises an eyebrow, “And a bit too revealing?” Es shakes her head, “Nope! This is just who I am, you know?” Me and Mina sigh, “Meh, do whatever the hell you wanna…” Mina says, shrugging.

I leave the aisle and take out my credit card to pay for all the dresses.

“Let’s head to Elite M and find some dashing suits for ourselves!” Asmo cheers as he walks. I lead them to the second floor, where Elite M comes into view.

Me and Mina sit down for a while at the shop. It smells of musk and cedar… and pure leather from somewhere.

Lucifer, Mammon, Asmodeus and Es walk around the shop.

Lucifer

*****

“Okay, gentlemen! In a standard prom outfit for men, you wear a collared shirt, black pants and a coat. You can further accessorize yourself with bow ties, ties etc.” Estella says. “Lucifer, check this one out!” Asmo shows me a white collared shirt. “Hmm, a black pant and a black coat would look flawless with this, right? Ooh, and you can wear your red gloves, too. And maybe, a black bow tie! So, what do you think?”

I eye the outfit in Asmo’s hand. I suppose it would look great on me. I nod, “Very well.” Asmo nods, “Alright, I’ll go place it on the counter!”

“Man, what kind of an outfit would Levi go for? I mean this dark blue shirt would go well with black coat and black pant.” Mammon mumbles to himself, selecting different articles of clothing. “I have an idea! Levi can go for a masquerade mask! I have that at home.” Estella suggests and Mammon nods, “Sure, why not?” Mammon heads to the counter.

“This green shirt is going to look fabulous on Satan. I’m thinking of buying black pants and coats for everyone. It just suits us so well.” Asmo declares.

“This shirt’s colour is just amazing! It’s like either a dark red or a dark orange! Ooh, Beel will look so handsome in this! Oh, oh, let’s not forget this cute black polka dot print on the grey shirt! This will look so adorable on Belphie!”

“Asmo, hurry up. We don’t have all day.” I tell him. “Oh Lucifer, almost done! I just need to buy myself an outfit.” Asmo replies and Mammon looks at the clothes on the racks, “Yeah, me too.” Mammon picks out a mustard yellow shirt with a red tie, while Asmo picks out a pink shirt and his coat is dark magenta, with cherry blossoms as the pattern.

“I’m going to look so cute and dashing at the same time! Oh, the world is going to adore me!” I shake my head and finally pay for the suits.

“My phone’s been buzzing with messages.” Mina says, standing up.

“But I’m hungry, now.” Es says. Lucy nods, “I’m sure we all are. Let’s get a quick bite before we head home.” Lucy leads us into the food court.

We all sit in the car and Lucy drives it. Asmo and Estella discuss different accessories that would go along with the outfits, while Mammon and Mina are discussing something… quietly. I’ll make sure to get the details out, just in case Mammon decides to cause trouble. From the corner of my eye, I look at Lucy.

She seems like her usual self. I still remember the way Lucy looked at me, when she was finally calming down from her rage. If I had to describe her gaze, it’d… be vulnerable. She was about to lose her balance, and… I had to catch her.

However, Lucy and I maintain a professional relationship. We usually discuss important matters, relating to the exchange program or any complaints regarding our siblings. Other than that, we haven’t quite talked much. She’s usually working on her laptop and on a pile of papers on her desk, whilst I’m doing the same.

I have caught her sisters giving me the dirty eye, every time I enter her office, especially Sasha and Belle. I’m sure Satan and Belphie have discussed with those two about their ridiculous Anti-Lucifer League.

I’m hoping those two girls don’t take any ideas from my brothers… otherwise Lucy’s life would be disastrous. She already has too much on her plate to deal with, and… for some reason, I don’t want to see her in too much stress…

Am I being overprotective? Why do I feel like Lucy has suddenly become my responsibility? She has taken care of herself and her sisters all on her own… she obviously doesn’t need me… she even has her own powers.

…However, as I look at Lucy… and as our eyes lock… I can still see faint traces of tiredness and fatigue.

I avert my gaze and turn my head to face the window. Coming into the Human World has been… a unique experience. I feel like I have yet to learn about this strange place…

And perhaps uncover more secrets that involve the Williamson Sisters.

I’m sure this isn’t the end…
