Work Text:

29 July 2009

It was a regular Wednesday afternoon in the Iwatodai dormitory, with only Fuuka, Aigis, Yukari and Junpei sitting in the main living quarters of the dorm. Everybody was content in their own activities, Fuuka clicking away on her laptop. Yukari painting her nails for what seemed to be the 1,000th time this week. Aigis sitting and staring off into the nothingness, and Junpei playing some kind of fighting game on his PSP.

A few minutes like this had passed when Mitsuru had made her way down the stairs and through the dining room to the kitchen.

She was in there for only a split second before storming out and making her way to the divider that split the dining room from the lounge, she stood in the gap of the divider and placed her hand on the side of the barrier.

“Junpei Iori!” Mitsuru said sternly with a look of extreme annoyance on her face.

Yukari and Fuuka looked up at Mitsuru. Then with curious looks on their faces, looked towards Junpei, who had looked up from his game with a concerned expression on his face. Then the two girls tried stretching their necks to get a view into the kitchen to see what Junpei had done to make Mitsuru so upset. Whilst Aigis looked towards Mitsuru with an unreadable expression upon her face.

“Y-yes?” Junpei replied with a look of terror on his face while he tried to remember everything he had done in his life that could possibly upset Mitsuru in any way shape or form.

Mitsuru replied to Junpei in a somewhat aggressive tone “Can you tell me why there are dirty dishes in the sink?”

Junpei had relaxed his entire body before responding “Oh yeah, sorry senpai, I’ll go sort that out.” Junpei began to get up to clean his mess in hopes of calming Mitsuru down.

“I'm not done.” Mitsuru responded. causing Junpei to sit back down, and causing Yukari and Fuuka to look at eachother with concerned looks on their faces.

“You left dirty dishes in the sink for the 4th time this week. That's once every day so far! Not to mention the mess you left on the dining room table! A half drunk glass of milk and droplets of soup and noodles. You need to clean up after yourself! Especially in community areas like this.” Mitsuru paused for a moment looking at Junpei disbelievingly before starting up again.
“You also need to maintain your room too, you know that right? It's terrible! You leave clothes, rubbish and other junk laying on the floor of your room. And that wouldn't be so bad if you didn't leave your door open all the time for everyone to see. It looks like a crime scene! You need to take care of yourself Junpei! Now go clean that mess up. I don't want to see that happen again.” Mitsuru finally finished, looking down at Junpei, who was sitting with his shoulders raised looking down at his hands that were clenched into fists on his lap.
“Now please Junpei.” Mitsuru added, folding her arms across her chest.

trying his best to hide his face, Junpei quickly got up and started moving towards the dining room to clean up, while walking past he murmured out the words “s-sorry mum.”

The world froze around him as he stopped dead in his tracks, refusing to believe what he had just uttered from his lips. Junpei had paused only for a split second then continued to try make it to the dining room to continue his instructions to clean his mess.

A look of shock swept over Mitsuru and Fuukas face, whilst an evil grin grew over Yukaris. Aigis still looking at Mitsuru with a deadpan look on her face silently comprehending the situation at hand.

“Oh My God! Junpei, did you just call Mitsuru senpai mum?” Yukari asked in a mocking tone.

“N- nu uh, I- I have no clue what you're on about.” Junpei said whilst grabbing a cloth and going to clean the soupy mess he left on the table while keeping his face straight down.

Aigis chimed into the conversation. “That is a lie. Just less than one minute ago Junpei called Mitsuru “mum”.”

“See, even Aigis heard you say it! You see Mitsuru senpai as a mother figure!” Yukari exclaimed while jumping out of her seat to see Junpei's face, which was bright red by this point.

Junpei finished wiping down the table, then grabbed the glass of milk and moved to the kitchen behind him, turning on the tap while not uttering a single word.

“She's only a year older than us! How could you possibly see her as a mother? That's so weird Junpei!” Yukari continued while following Junpei to the kitchen. “His face is bright red!”

“That's enough Yukari I- I think he gets the point.” Fuuka interrupted while trying not to laugh, herself.

Mitsuru butted in “Yes, I agree with Yamagishi san. That is quite enough.” she said calmly before leaning against the freshly cleaned table.

“Ah well fine.” Yukari sighed while walking out of the kitchen leaving Junpei in peace to clean. “How do you feel about it Senpai?” Yukari asked, shifting her attention to Mitsuru.

“I- uh, well… I feel… honored… that he feels such a way I suppose.” Mitsuru replied, picking her words extremely carefully.

“Hear that Junpei? She feels honored!” Yukari yelled towards the kitchen.

The tap stopped running and Junpei left the kitchen, still not uttering a word and going directly towards the stairs.

“Aww, bye Stupei!” Yukari yelled after him before going back to her seat and grabbing a magazine, looking at the cover.

“That was awfully rude, don't you think Takeba?” Mitsuru asked, looking towards Yukari with a concerned look on her face.
“Nah he’ll be fine within 30 minutes when he realizes he left his PSP or whatever down here.” Yukari answered nonchalantly, flipping to the first page of her magazine.

“Alright then.” Mitsuru sighed while making her way back to the kitchen.

“It was kinda funny.” Fuuka admitted looking up from her laptop towards Yukari.

“Not kinda, it was hilarious!” Yukari replied, continuing to flip through the magazine.

“Oh okay.” Fuuka said, looking back down at her laptop, continuing with whatever activity she was doing.

And as Yukari promised, 30 minutes later Junpei had returned downstairs to play on his PSP again, and everything had gone back to normal.
