Work Text:
Vi woke up groggily, the warm feeling of a heavy blanket covering most of her body. Her eyes were blurry no matter how much she tried to blink it away and the parts of her body that weren't covered with the blanket felt like they were freezing, but she was also drenched in sweat.
She whined in discomfort as she tried to turn slightly. She didn't even recognize the form of Caitlyn sitting by her until she felt the backside of two fingers press against her sweaty forehead.
"You're burning up" the accented voice of the woman spoke quietly. In her delirious state, Vi did not quite process what that meant, but she couldn't find it in her to be too concerned over such things. Caitlyn was a smart woman, she probably knew what to do.
Over the course of what may have been minutes or hours or days, Vi felt her body go back and forth between feeling too cold and too hot- Though, regardless of what sensation she felt, she was sweating and shaking profusely. Several times, she felt her weak body be lifted for short spans of time (because she was too weak to get up herself), as the sweat-drenched sheets were removed and replaced. She didn't fight with any of this, too out of it to even fully process how vulnerable she was.
During one of her more lucid moments, she faintly heard Caitlyn talking to another person. It was in this conversation that she heard the word doctor and grew incredibly anxious.
"No doctor" she pleaded. She could faintly see Caitlyn looking over at her. "Please. I'll get better, I promise. No doctor"
"Okay" Caitlyn nodded to the person in the doorway, who then left, and then she went to sit by Vi on the bed. "No doctor. However, if this gets worse or doesn't go away in the next few days, we're taking you to a doctor"
Vi nodded in understanding. Caitlyn sighed and kissed her on the forehead, not minding the sweat and abnormal warmth. She got up and walked away for a second, then returned with a wet rag, which she put over Vi's forehead. Vi winced at the feeling.
"I know it's uncomfortable, I'm sorry" Caitlyn said apologetically. "But it will help with your fever"
"It's too cold" Vi whimpered.
"No, it's not" Caitlyn told her gently. "You have a fever. Your temperature is too high. This will help"
Vi didn't say anything else to that and fell asleep soon after.
When she woke again, her fever had broke, and she felt generally much better, just a bit weak and unclean because of all the sweat around her. Caitlyn helped her out of bed and into the shower, then changed the sheets while she washed herself off.
When Vi returned from the shower, she was greeted with fuzzy pajamas and a friendly smile from the topsider.
She wasn't sure what amazing thing she'd done in a past life to earn Caitlyn's love, but she was endlessly grateful.
