Chapter Text

"I bet I could eat an elephant." Venom blurted out randomly, causing Peter to stop cutting the vegetables for dinner.

"Where did that come from?" Peter asked in bewilderment.

"I could. In one big bite, I am sure we could eat an elephant." Venom reiterated as Quill just shook his head.

His focus quickly returned to the meal prep once more. "You have been talking too much with Riot, my love." He looked out the window in front of them to spot the boy and his siblings in the garden playing their favourite game: Vikings.

"Only as much as you do." Venom retorted, moving to scan over the various small tubs of sliced and diced vegetables.

"They should be eating much better than this. Human food is so boring." it complained, scowling at the mixture of carrots, potatoes, and peppers with a small stem of tomatoes yet to be added.

"Yeah, well, New Asgard is a bit small to let six symbiotes go running about eating petty criminals and livestock. Consider yourself lucky that we have that nice farmer who lets you eat her old animals. And the old grandma next door who gives the kids enough choc-chip cookies to send them into a food coma." Peter smirked, setting the finished slices aside.

But the moment he went to reach for the tomatoes, a wave of head-splitting pain racked their brain like something was trying to dig into it and take command.

The knife clattered onto the counter as Peter stepped back and clutched at his head. As he did, a blue glow emitted as he tried to fend off the psychic assault. The worst of it was the feeling of separation.

"Jesus fucking Christ!" Peter shouted as his knees buckled and threatened to fail him. "Vee, what the hell are you doing?!" But there was no response, only pained silence. He tried to look around for where the other had been floating about, but they were gone, and the only evidence of their presence were the aggressive and bulging white veins along his shaking arms.

For the seconds, or minutes it felt like, that the pain lasted, he couldn’t hear or feel his other.

Resorting to desperate measure, Peter tapped into his powers to try and find a way to stop the pain that was racking through them and try restore that connection and sense of each other. His celestial abilities were usually tied to him alone, and yet even then when he used them, he could feel Venom. But this, whatever this was, felt cold and desolate, as if Venom was right there but somehow a thousand miles away at the same time.

"Shit! Shit! SHIT!" he continued to shout before deciding that restricting his celestial abilities wasn’t helping. He let whatever fount of power he had overflow, hoping that it would stop the pain.

And sure as hell it did.

For a few moments, it was as if every cell in his body and every atom linked together in a way that was familiar, in a way that Peter hated. But the pain had stopped and that was all that mattered in that instant.

He eventually managed to slow his breathing and slouched forward as his cosmic glow reflected off the tiled floor, revealing his own baffled and pained expression as it gradually dimmed but remained slightly present. "Venom?" he quickly asked, barely glowing blue eyes shooting open and searching over their body.

The prominent veins were still there but less flared so he focused inward, he could feel his other’s presence condensed as it sifted around, not due to their bond but seemingly more due to the hyperawareness that his powers caused. "Vee, please tell me you're there. Come on, darling, show me something more. Say something to me, please!" he begged aloud with a desperate cry.

Finally, a weak but reassuring voice echoed in his mind. "I am here, Peter. It was… an attack, but not physical. Something powerful. I felt it trying to control me. Something about it was familiar…like I had felt it before."

Peter sighed in relief, then quickly turned his attention to the garden. "The kids!" he muttered, before frantically scrambling to his feet and rushing outside with Thor following closely behind after finally getting off his game console as he confusedly walks along.

“Uhh darling, is everything alright?” He confusedly asks trailing a few steps behind in his oversized fluffy dressing gown.

The children were no longer playing. They stood still, their faces pale and eyes wide with fear. Riot was holding his head with a dazed look, Scream was trembling while Agony was sat on the floor with Phage staring blankly into the distance. Lasher immediately threw himself at Peter and Venom, stopping the pair in an instant as a splat of green goo quickly reformed into their youngest son.

“Daddy!” He cried “Scary voice!” He quickly added before balling out tears against his neck while his tendrils wrapped around tighter than they had ever before. “Ssshh, baby, it’s alright. We’re here.” He tries to sooth but the boy is in unmanageable hysterics.

Thor eventually made his way outside as his heart began breaking at the sight of his family’s distress. "Hey, what's going on? What happened?"

Agony ran up to them with a terrified look in her eyes and a quiver lip to boot. She looked up at her parents with tears in her eyes. "He is coming," she whispered, her voice filled with dread as she frantically looked around in a desperate attempt to see whoever ‘he’ is.

Peter's blood ran cold. "Who is coming, sweetie?" He asked whilst Venom formed to distract Lasher from the distressing situation by seemingly to silently talk to him as white mixed the boy’s green.

"Someone bad," Riot said, his voice shaking. "He said he's going to destroy everything.” Before he added a poorly hidden addition of “Asshole" that Peter would let slide this once.

Thor exchanged a worried glance with Peter. "What did you hear?" he asked gently.

"It was a voice," Scream explained, her hands shaking. "It said his name is Knull and he's coming to destroy us all."

Peter felt a chill run down his spine. He looked at Venom, who seemed unaffected but was clearly troubled by the children's reactions. "Venom, did you hear anything?"

Venom shook his head. "No. It must have been what happened to us. Your powers must have blocked it somehow but this is bad. Very bad.” That send an obvious shiver of dread down Peter’s back “What kind of bad, Vee?”

“God of Symbiotes kind of bad.” The other revealed.

 “Well shit.”
