Chapter 3: Magical Attunement

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

There are many elements that a creature can contain the power of at a time, although usually there is one that trumps over others in the creature’s body. This is most prominent, once again, in Dragons, who are usually born with a Magical Attunement and use this as the base for most of their Magicks. Some examples include Sky, Ice, Fire, Wind, Water, Earth, Shade, and Light. All elements share a form of basic healing magic called Life. When a creature discovers its body's preferred element, it must then Attune to said element in order to use it quickly and with more power, at the cost of losing the ability to call upon other Magicks as easily or with as much power.

Many Magicks seem similar in idea but are not in practice, while others are complete opposites. Wind and Sky are two examples; in the mind of most creatures, the wind is in the sky, and therefore they are the same element. This is not the case, however- While Sky users often have access to the changing of the clouds and being able to, for a limited time, summon other elements for weather conditions, Wind users have control over the air itself and are not limited by the “restraints of the sky.” Shade and Light are examples of complete opposites, and while Magic users have gotten close to being able to almost attune to both Wind and Sky, no living creature in memory other than perhaps the Gods themselves have been able to master and attune with both Shade and Light simultaneously. They are both extremely powerful Magicks, though, so if a user did manage to use both, then they would become much more dangerous to fight.

You may remember in the last section of notes that the ability for a Ki or Magic user, if they used the other’s energy technique, to be able to make a Ki ball with a different kind of elemental energy was mentioned. Ki, like Magic, has many elements that can be used to do many different things. The main elements for Ki are Light and Shade, which is why many Ki attacks are so dense and powerful.* Ki users, however, are not required to attune to their body's preferred element. It is speculated that this is because Ki attacks are usually much less complicated than many spells (see notes on Magic Setups as well as Magic and Ki Usages). In theory, a Ki user could, technically, attune to their inner element, but this has never been done, and as there is such little information on Ki and Magic users exchanging their ideas and usages for their energy outputs, there is unfortunately only speculation.

Notes:

*Note that Ki attacks are not limited to Light in Shade in terms of elements–there have been tales of Ki users who use elements such as Fire, Wind, and Ice.
*stares really hard at Dragon Ball GT which i wish was better*
