I Can Do It With A Broken Heart

Chapter 11: Amon's Mother

Summary:

The ninja learn Amon's plan.

Chapter Text

A few days past since Kai and Cole returned to the Monastery and the ninja learned about what happened to Geo.  Everyone walked on eggshells around Cole, Bonzle, Fritz and Spitz.  The others wanted to plan a funeral for Geo so they could say a proper goodbye, but when Cole caught wind of that idea, he quickly shut that down saying ‘it’d be pointless since his body is crushed under rocks in Shintaro’.  After that, the ninja decided to just let Cole continue to grieve Geo’s death since no matter what they did it only made him madder.

Lloyd was trying to figure out a plan for how to take down Amon, although he was fresh out ideas since all the ninja, with the exception of Kai and Zane, had their powers taken.  And according to P.I.X.A.L. all the other elemental masters had their powers taken by Amon as well.

“I believe I found something that might be useful.”  Zane spoke up.

“What is it?”  Lloyd asked as the others surround Zane, who was on the computer.  “Did you find another elemental master who Amon hadn’t gotten to yet?”

“Negative.”  Zane informed.  “But I believe I found the address of Amon’s house.”

“That’s great and all, but how is knowing Amon’s address useful to us?”  Sora questioned.

“Because I don’t believe Amon lives there anymore.”   Zane explained.  “But it seems like his mother does.”

“So, you want us to go to his mother and ask her to ground Amon and make him give us our powers back?” Jay joked which resulted in a light slap from Nya.

“While I do not believe that would work, I do think his mother could give us some insight on Amon and his motives.”  Zane explained as some of the ninja looked skeptical about the idea.

“It might be a little risky, but it’s the only plan we got.”  Lloyd states.  “But I don’t think we should all go.  For all we know his mother could be just as bad as him.”

“I’ll go.”  Kai volunteered.

“Are you sure?”  Nya asked.  “You and Zane are the only ones who still have their elemental powers.”

“That’s why one of us should go.  If it seems dangerous, we’re gonna need someone with powers.  And Zane’s more useful staying here than I am.”  Kai explained.  “But if you don’t want to me to go alone, I’ll be happy to accept any volunteers.”  All the others stayed quiet, none of them wanting to face Amon’s mother.

“I’ll go.”  Everyone turned their attention to Cole who had seemed to be standing in the doorway listening to the whole conversation.  “If she is dangerous, we wouldn’t want to send Kai by himself.”

“Cole…are you sure you want to go?”  Lloyd carefully asked.  “I can always go instead.”

“It’s fine, I’ll go with him.”  Cole insisted before turning to Kai.  “Ready whenever you are.”

“Uh…yeah…ok…”  Kai awkwardly said as Cole walked out ready to go.  Kai looked at the rest of the ninja who had unsure looks on their faces.  No one was sure if it was a good idea for Cole to go, but they also didn’t want to tell him not to out of fear of how he would react.

Kai and Cole left the Monastery and went down to Ninjago City.  Zane told them the address of Amon’s mother’s house and they were currently trying to find it.  The two searched in silence as Kai was too afraid to say something that would upset Cole.

“You would think this house would be easier to find.”  Cole spoke up startling Kai.  “You ok?”  Cole asked noticing Kai getting startled.

“Y-yeah…I’m fine.”  Kai stuttered.

“You sure?”  Cole asked again.  “You seem quiet.”

“Just…thinking about Amon’s mother.”  Kai lied.  “And wondering if she’s as bad as Amon.”

“Are you scared of an old woman?”  Cole playfully teased with a laugh.

Kai looked at him shocked.  Cole was laughing and making jokes.  But he couldn’t tell if he was just putting on an act or if he was being sincere.  Kai gave a small chuckle in response and gave him a genuine smile hearing Cole’s laugh.

“Look!”  Cole pointed out as he ran ahead with Kai behind him.  They approached an old looking house.  “I think this is it.”

“Let’s go.”  Kai said as he and Cole walked up the rickety stairs.  Kai and Cole exchanged a look before Kai rung the doorbell.  They wait a moment before hearing creaking from inside before the door opened revealing a short, gray haired, elderly woman.  “Uh…hi.  I’m Kai and this is Cole.  Do you know someone named Amon?”

“I do.  He’s my son.”  The woman sighed.  “I’m Agatha. Please come in.”

Kai and Cole entered the house as Agatha led them to the table before pouring them each a cup of tea.  They looked around the house and it seemed like a normal house.  And his mother seemed to be a normal woman.

“I think I know what this is about.”  She said as she sat across from them.

“So you’re aware of what your son has been doing?”  Cole coldly asked.

“I am.”  Agatha nodded disappointed.  “And I would like to apologize for any harm he’s caused.”  She got up and went into the kitchen before coming out with a tray of cookies and placing it on the table.  “Here.  Take as many as you’d like.  I can always make more.”

“Your son murdered my boyfriend.”  Cole said bitterly.  “So excuse me if a couple of cookies won’t make up for that.”

Agatha slowly sank down in her seat as she heard what her son had done.  She covered her face with her hands trying to compose herself.

“Agatha, your son is dangerous.”  Kai spoke.  “We want to know if you know anyway of stopping him.”

“I…I wish did.  But I don’t.”  Agatha started crying.  “I just can’t believe my baby boy would do something so horrible.”

Kai and Cole exchanged a look as they watched Agatha cry.  They weren’t sure how to respond as the old woman crying made them both uncomfortable.

“What was he like?”  Cole asked.  “As a kid.”

“He was a sweet boy.”  Agatha wiped her tears.  “He always helped and stoop up for others.  Until…”

“Until?”  Kai asked.

“Until everything bad starting happening.”  She told them.  “From the Great Devourer, to Lord Garmadon, to the Overlord, to the Sons of Garmadon and every other bad event that nearly destroyed the city.  He hated all of that.”  Kai and Cole exchange a look as she talks.  “He started blaming anyone with an elemental power.  He said they brought nothing but pain and destruction.  I tried to explain to him that some of them weren’t all bad, especially you ninja, but didn’t listen.  Then when the merge happened a cruel twist came when he discovered he developed the power of Absorption.  He told me with these powers he would create a perfect world.  I begged him not to, but I couldn’t get through to him.  That was the last time I saw him.”

“A perfect world?”  Kai asked confused.

“A world without elemental masters.”  Cole concluded.  “He can’t get rid of elemental powers entirely, but he can take them for himself.  That way he’ll think he’s in control.”

“But wielding that much power would drive anyone insane.”  Kai added.

“Clearly he didn’t get the memo.”  Cole said before turning to Agatha.  “Do you have any idea where he is now?”

“I don’t.”  Agatha shook her head.  “I wish I could help more.”

“You helped enough.”  Cole said as he and Kai stood up.  “Thank you.”

Kai and Cole left Agatha’s house.  While they didn’t get any information on how to stop Amon.  They at least learned his backstory as to why he’s taking everyone’s powers, which is at least something.

“I want to apologize.”  Cole suddenly spoke up.

“What?”  Kai asked confused.

“I know I was an asshole…after Geo died.”  Cole started.  “Especially to you.  I shouldn’t have treated you that way and I definitely shouldn’t have beat you up.”  Cole stops in his tracks and looks Kai in the eyes with a sincere expression.  “I’m really sorry.”

“Cole…you were grieving.”  Kai defended.  “You have nothing to apologize for.”

“Yes, I do.”  Cole insisted.  “It doesn’t matter if I was grieving or not, I shouldn’t have taken it out on you when all you were doing was trying to help.”

Kai noticed Cole’s pleading expression begging him for forgiveness.  And even though Kai didn’t think Cold needed to apologize, he knew he needed to hear one.

“Ok, I forgive you.”  Kai smiled.

“Thank you.”  Cole said with wet eyes as he pulled Kai into a hug.  Kai was surprised by the warm hug and carefully hugged him back.

Kai and Cole returned to the Monastery.  But when they entered, they saw Lloyd, Nya and Jay all lying in the courtyard.  The two run over to them to make sure they were ok.

“Are you ok?  What happened?”  Kai asked as he helped his sister up.

“Amon happened.”  Nya said.  “As soon as you guys left, he appeared.  We tried to keep him from Zane.”

“But we couldn’t.”  Lloyd added.  “He was too strong.”

“And he got Zane’s powers.”  Jay finished.

After helping them up the five of them went inside the Monastery.  Zane was lying down but was now awake with the others surrounding him.

“How are you feeling?”  Cole asked.

“I’ll be ok.”  Zane answered.  “But I fear whatever Amon’s plan is is getting closer to being complete.”

“Sorry to interrupt.”

Everyone turned their attention to the door as Skylor stood there.

“Skylor?  What are you doing here?”  Kai asked.

“I thought I should let you know that the museum called me.”  Skylor informed.  “They told me that the Staff of Elements was stolen.”

“The Staff of Elements?  You mean the thing your father used?”  Nya asked and Skylor nodded.  “I thought Kai destroyed that?”

“He destroyed the Blue Crystal that was in the staff, not the staff itself.”  Skylor explained.  “And I noticed a cloud of smoke heading towards the endless sea where my father’s island was.  Which is where the Crystal Caves are.”

“But why?”  Cole asked.  “He already has the power of Absorption, why would he need the Staff of Elements with Blue Crystal?”

“My father used it with the Book of Spells to turn us into Anacondrai.”  Skylor reminded.

“But I destroyed that.”  Lloyd said.  “He couldn’t be using that.”

“Unless there was another copy.”  P.I.X.A.L. chimed in as she searched the computer.  She quickly pulled up an image of the Book of Spells on the computer and scrolled through it.  “If I was able to find this it’s likely Amon could too.”

“But the question is which spell would he use?”  Lloyd questioned.

“Let’s scroll through and see what spells need a lot of elemental powers.”  Arin suggested.

P.I.X.A.L. scrolled through the Book of Spells as everyone else stared at the screen.  It wasn’t until she got to the last page that Skylor stopped her.

“There!”  Skylor pointed out.  “This spell requires all elemental powers.”

“This isn’t good.”  P.I.X.A.L. said as she read the spell.  “It says here that this spell requires every elemental power to be absorbed into the Staff of Elements.  This grants the wielder the power to create their perfect world.”

“Perfect world?!”  Kai and Cole exclaimed catching everyone’s attention.

“What?”  Nya asked the boys.

“Amon’s mother told us that the last thing he said to her was that he was going to create a perfect world.”  Cole explained.

“A world without elemental powers.”  Kai added.  “This must be what he meant.”

“So he’s gonna create an entirely new world?”  Jay questioned.

“Unfortunately, it doesn’t work like that.”  P.I.X.A.L. added as she examined the screen.  “In the event this spell is cast it wouldn’t create an entire newly world.  It would destroy this current world and create a new one in its place.”

Everyone looked shocked at they heard P.I.X.A.L.’s explanation of the spell.  They finally figured out what Amon’s big plan was.  But realized it was worse than they could ever imagine and they had no idea how to stop it.

Notes:

So fair warning, this fan fiction is probably gonna be pretty depressing, especially from Kai's perspective. Although it will also have it's happy moments as well, so you have that to look forward to.
