Male wife mayhem day 1 - Bring your wife to work day

Work Text:

Eddie Munson had been a famous rockstar for yeast, however many of those years he had been in the tabloids for being a drug addicted menace. He had been a wild party animal, but regardless Eddie was loved. He had a huge fan base and a loving community. Even when he was causing havoc.

Now he was reformed, from what the fans had learned from his tweets and interviews the rock star had met an ‘angel’ and fallen in love. Interview after interview, he went on and on about how lucky he was to have met his wife.

Fans had a lot of speculation about who this possible wife was, during his time in the rehab center there had been a constant face that popped up. A pretty blonde girl named Chrissy. She had gone from a fellow drug addicted patient to his best friend who was his assistant.

However a few observant fans kept notice of some things, while Eddie was openly loving to Chrissy with things such as hugs, forehead kisses, and wrapping his arm around her shoulders. He never openly called her his wife, she never wore a ring.

People online had started a hashtag for the two, which Eddie hadn’t been privy to. For a while after his rehabilitation he didn’t have internet access, and once he got it back he didn’t know the tag referred to him. #Hellcheer was popular, but it was also just full of questions and uncertainty.

Eddie never said a thing about Chrissy, but no one had outwardly asked about her. They always asked him how was his wife, or how are you and your wife doing, no one ever asked how was Chrissy.

He never truly thought people saw them as a couple, until the day of his next award show. Steve was standing at his side, wearing a modest sundress while the rest of the corroded coffin were wearing nice but more flashy suits. Steve’s belly was slightly round, he was only 3 months pregnant but he was starting to show. Steve was in between the band, being protected. At first the members of Eddie’s band was worried about Steve joining the flock, they thought he was in it for the money and was trying to change Eddie for the worse.

However it became abundantly clear that he was there for both Eddie and Chrissy, there to help them through their rough patches. Chrissy adored Steve, she knew that Steve was aware of the #Hellcheer, but neither of them were really sure about it either. They thought it was just a crazy online community nothing too insane or that it would really bleed into their lives much.

As they walked down the red carpet one of the paparazzi called Eddie over. Steve stayed with the other band members, his hand still on his belly. The cameras were flashing, Eddie smiled as he made his way to the man with the film camera. “So, we all saw the tweet.” The man began. Eddie grinned, pride clearly dripping off of the rock star. Early that month he had tweet a picture of a line of baby clothes with their band name on it.

He had captained it “So our newest band member doesn’t feel left out. Baby Munson Coming soon.”

The people had lost their minds. “Yeah, my wife and I are super excited.”

Steve grinned as he listened to Eddie talking, Steve got comfortable enough to step up to Eddie’s side. Eddie smiled as he placed his hand on Steve’s rounded belly. “Baby bat will be here in six months.”

The man's expression changed from excited to clearly confused and annoyed. “Why do you have this tramp with you? Where is Chrissy?”

Eddie clenched his first. “What did you just call my wife?”

“Wife? Chrissy is your wife.”

“Chrissy is not my wife.” Eddie remarked

“No, she is your wife, that is what everyone is saying. So you cheated on her and knocked up this slut?”

Eddie snapped, Steve grabbed Eddie’s arm as he lunged for the camera man. The other Corroded Coffin members came to Eddie’s side quickly pulling him away from the man. Every social media platform was abuzz with what happened. People were freaking out, what did he mean Chrissy wasn’t his wife? Who was this pregnant man?

“Do people actually think that?” Eddie snapped.

“Yes. They do. What do you think #hellcheer is?” Steve asked softly as he squeezed his hand tightly trying to keep him from going back to the camera man.

“I thought people just liked our friendship, I don’t do our PR for a reason. It isn’t good for my mental health or to stay off the drugs and stuff you told me that.”

“I know I just… this is why I don’t like coming to things Eddie…”

“Oh my god I am so stupid.” Eddie grunted to himself. “Baby I am so sorry I didn’t know… I.”

Eddie pulled out his phone as they came to their assigned seats. He saw that twitter was going wild. Their interview had thousands of views already, angry messages and tweets calling Eddie a liar. Telling Eddie he led them on to think he and Chrissy were an item. They accused Steve of being a tramp who likely got knocked up sneaking into Eddie’s room after a concert.

Eddie noticed a few people actually seemed to know better, posting photos of Steve in the background of awards shows and concerts for years. Others said they were doctored photos. Eddie was pissed.

“If anyone doesn’t think my Stevie, my wife isn’t real I hope you got fuck yourself.” He sent the tweet and people went wild.

“Steve is my wife, we have been together for years.”

He began to post some of their engagement photos and some from their honeymoon. He wanted to keep his wedding to them, he could care less of what people thought, but he wanted his wife to be respected and loved. He was angry with his fan base, and with himself for not coming forward with Steve’s name earlier.

Gareth pulled out his phone as he began to get hundreds of tags asking for the truth. Garreth’s eyes widened as he saw Eddie’s posts on both his own twitter and their official page. “Eddie put that damn phone away.”

“They insulted my wife.”

“We can deal with it later okay? Lets let this night run through.” Gareth suggested. He looked over his messages. He scrolled through his phone and found a few from when Steve came to their practices after the band got back together when Eddie got clean.

People were losing it.

How could Chrissy not be Eddie’s?

She wore more alternative clothes, she was pictured at parties drinking. Any picture people could find that had Steve somewhere in the background he was wearing something simple or soft. Much more conservative.

Yet all the proof seemed to be there despite the confusion they had. How could this conservative looking male wife be Eddie Munson’s one true love? The angel that pulled him out of his depression and helped him get clean.

Steve leaned into Eddie, cameras kept panning over the crowd and Steve and Eddie were in the main view. It was obvious that they knew it was Steve who was drumming up attention, the hashtags were building viewers for their program. Finally as awards began to be handed out and nominees were called they got to rock bands.

Steve squeezed Eddie’s hand as Corroded Coffin was called as a nominee. Once nominees were called out the winners were called. “Best Rock Band of the year goes to Corroded Coffin!”

Eddie and the band stood up as the clapping rang, Steve held a hand to his belly and squeezed Eddie’s hand before he and the band ran up to the stage. Eddie grabbed for the microphone. “First I would like to say thank you, next I would like to talk about my wife.”

Gareth bit his lip, nervous about him snapping. “Eddie.” He whispered. “Be careful.”

Eddie only nodded. “Stevie, I am so thankful for you, and I cannot wait for our child to be born. I would like to apologize to you, for never saying your name before. I guess I should have said it before, but Stevie you saved my life and I should have just said your name. I know you don’t like to be in the limelight so I tried to keep you out of that, by doing so it seems you’re now in it worse. For that I am sorry. To my loyal fans I appreciate you, to those who don’t believe us, scr-.”

Jeff pulled the microphone away just in time. “We are so excited about this! We are going to go on tour while Steve is pregnant, when the baby comes we will take a break so Eddie can spend some time just being a dad. We hope you all can accept that. Again we thank you for this win. We couldn't have done it without you.”

Gareth let out a soft sigh. They stepped away from the stage and ran back to their seats. Eddie picked up Steve and spun him around before kissing him lovingly. People still thought Steve was a groupie or fake, until Chrissy said her piece.

She unprivated her accounts, and posted a congratulation message to her friends and boss. “Congrats on the win! Cannot wait for my girlfriend and I to be baby bat's aunts.” The picture was of her and a woman people had also seen in a few background pictures holding up wine glasses.

People were scanning photo after photo that she posted in surprise and awe. Behind the scenes that proved the truth. Since just after Eddie’s OD, pictures of Eddie and Steve and Chrissy at parties and events. Dinner at their house, the Corroded Coffin members sitting around a table with Steve bringing in a cake. Photos of Chrissy having had a party life.

Clearly how Eddie and Chrissy had really met, both being in the same rehab center with Steve in a nurses outfit.

People were losing it, and fans worried about losing their favorite people apologizing in droves trying to find Steve’s accounts.

Chrissy posted a few more photos calling out people for Steve’s style. She posted photos of her from a younger age in her cheer outfits to now. “Just because Steve likes to wear more conservative clothes means nothing, leave my best friend alone. We all have styles of our own, and I am glad I am wearing what I wear now rather than those ugly cheer outfits, Steve is confident in who he is. Be happy for Eddie, be happy for Steve. We have been friends for years, and if the fans really care they should leave Steve and Eddie to be happy as a couple.”

People were apologizing or leaving the fandom in droves, but with the PR their band was getting more publicity and gaining more fans. Their baby clothing line was selling out and so was their albums. They were top of the charts between their win and the publicity.

Eddie looked at the tweets he had received and private messages, people suggesting Steve is only there for the money. That he is trying to baby trap him. Eddie snorted, he was the one who suggested a baby in the first place. He couldn’t help but laugh at the people who backtracked and said that they new it was Steve who was his wife the whole time after having posted #hellcheer for years.

He pulled Steve into his arms. “I cannot wait for our baby bat to come. I’m so sorry I never said your name. I- I’m sorry.”

Steve kissed Eddie desperately. “I know you never meant to hurt me. I never said anything because we knew the truth, but I appreciate it.” He placed a hand on his belly. This was their baby, their everything.

He was so happy he had been chosen by Eddie, even after everything with the fans for years and what was currently going down. He snuggled into Eddie once more, kissing him softly. “I love being your wife.”

“I’m lucky you love me.”

They were ready for their baby, but he would be there for Eddie forever no matter what it brought. He had helped Eddie through his absolute worst, and he would be there for it again if needed. He adored Eddie, and he was so glad he found him.
