Work Text:
Lena groans, rubbing her temples. Her head was throbbing, it had been for hours. But she had to work.
Lex had broken out a few days ago, killing some civilians in an attempt to get to Superman again. Though Lena took no part in it at all, the media was claiming she was a part of it.
Lex was constantly ruining the Luthor name, and even ruining her name. She did nothing but help, and now her company was practically going bankrupt.
She felt the fury build inside of her at the thought, and she disregarded her computer. It’s not like she had work to do anyways, nobody was buying anything from L-Corp anymore. She just wanted to go home, and drown her sorrows in a bottle of whiskey.
So she left. She grabbed nothing but her phone, mumbling something about going home to her assistant before basically jetting towards the doors of L-Corp. She had her driver take her home, her mind vacant as they drove.
God, she was just so angry. When she was first given possession of L-Corp, she had done everything in her power to clean up the company’s reputation. And here she was, doing it again. All because of fucking Lex.
Honestly, Lena didn’t know if she had it in her to do it again. It had practically taken the life out of her the first time. She sighed in relief as the driver pulled up to her building, and she gave him a small and mumbled a thanks before leaving.
Taking the elevator, she slowly ascended to the fourth floor where her penthouse was. As the steel doors opened, she was met with a sight she didn’t expect. Kara. Lena tried to ignore the skip of her heart when she saw her there, but it was obvious how hard she had fallen for her best friend.
“Kara?” Lena asks hesitantly, walking towards her front door. “Oh! Lena. Hi. Sorry, I know I should’ve called first. But I um- I dunno. I’m just worried about you I guess.” She admits sheepishly. Lena’s heart ached with affection for this girl. “Worried?” She repeats softly.
“Yeah. With everything going on with Lex I know you must be upset.” She says with a shrug. “Oh.” Lena says, getting to work on unlocking her front door. She swallowed back the lump in her throat, she was not about to bother Kara with her tears.
She opened up the door, gesturing Kara in as she walks in. Kara follows, and Lena shuts the door behind them. The two walk into the living room, side-by-side as always. Before they can even sit, Kara instinctively pulls Lena in for a hug.
Of all the things Kara was going to do, Lena didn’t expect that. She wanted to stay strong, but the hug caused the dam to break. Tears prickled her eyes as she started to cry, Kara’s arms only tightening around her. “I know. I’m here Lee.” Kara murmurs.
Tears streamed down her face as she held onto Kara, she was more grateful for her than she would ever know. “You are so strong. The most brilliant person I know. I know it may seem like everything will be shit forever, but I promise you you’ll be able to turn it around.” Kara says quietly.
“If anyone could turn this shitty situation around, it would be you Lena. Because you are incredible. More than you’ll ever know. And I’m here, I’ll be here every step of the way.” She coaxes. They stayed in this position for a bit before Lena began to calm down, her sobs subsiding to sniffles. “T-Thank you.” She says with a watery smile.
“Anything for you Lena.” She says, returning her smile.
