Work Text:

Leone Abbacchio thought that Giorno Giovanna would love him for a life time.

The younger man would show his interest in and yearning for the older man before he became the Don, but he was always cruelly turned down. Abbacchio would throw every rose in the trash can. Not a single written love letter was read.

Previously, Leone Abbacchio thought he would never be interested in anything that Giorno Giovanna could offer him. In the blink of an eye, the tables were swiftly turned, and Leone Abbacchio's one and only desire was cruelly turned down.

Following his inevitable ascent to power following his victory against Diavolo, Giorno revived Leone. Abbacchio was returned by Giorno Giovanna, but Bruno Buccellati and Narancia Ghirga were not.

The older man was certain that Giorno Giovanna wanted to punish him. He begged the new Don of Passione nine times to bring back his sweetheart and the boy. He begged the Don on his knees to bring back his lover and the boy they saw as their son, but all he got from the Don was the same empty stare. “Sorry, Leone. I did what I could." Liar.

Giorno Giovanna would not grant Leone Abbacchio’s only wish, so the older man fled Passione.

____

Even if the taller man longed to vanish from the face of the planet, Giorno Giovanna always managed to find him. Leone Abbacchio always had new clothes and numerous containers of food put outside his apartment’s front door for some reason. The older man was uncertain whether the Don's presents were an act of affection or pity.

Like the roses, everything that the Don gifted to Abbacchio would be thrown away without a second thought. Leone Abbacchio was filled with despair and hunger, yet he would not accept anything from Giorno Giovanna.

To make ends meet, he worked low-paying gas station. The older man refused to accept Guido Mista and Pannacotta Fugo's help despite his hunger, hopelessness, and physical and emotional distress.

Regardless of Abbacchio's harsh words, the men Bruno considered his own sons throughout his lifetime continued to show up at the gas station where Abbacchio worked shifts.

Fugo was empathetic to Abbacchio's suspicion and hostility towards them, but Mista appeared to be on the verge of tears in response to Abbacchio's bitter accusations.

"We just got you back, man! We can't lose one of our own again."

Mista's pleads sounded sincere, but Leone Abbacchio could never trust someone who swore their life to the new Don.

____

What Don Giorno Giovanna wanted from him was unclear to Leone Abbacchio. There were always men trailing him from a distance, and the gifts never stopped. His bones ached from the extreme cold of December's nights. Shivering, he searched for warmth and comfort against his too-small and uncomfortable twin-size mattress and the several gloriously warm blankets Don Giorno Giovanna had delivered to the front of his door.

The idea of taking a present from the young man he detested was repugnant to the older man. If Bruno Buccellati perished at the hands of the previous boss, Giorno Giovanna's refusal to revive him would have been his second murder.

He was so cold-blooded that Leone Abbacchio detested the thought of accepting the assistance of someone who would not bring back the man he loved most.

It seemed like Giorno Giovanna truly wanted him. On the coldest of winter nights, Leone Abbacchio couldn't help but contemplate it. Leone Abbacchio genuinely believed he would be the lifelong love of Giorno Giovanna.

A surge of desperation struck him like a brick during a night in late December.

Leone Abbacchio came up with the perfect plan.

He believed that he could convince the young Don to revive Bruno and Narancia if he offered himself to him.

____

Leone Abbacchio brushed his long hair the day after. The makeup he applied to his features contrasted with the tone of his foundation. Wearing one of the form-fitting outfits from the mountains of presents he has saved, the man completed his appearance.

The older man mentally prepared himself to spread his legs for the Don as he walked to the Don's villa because he was out of money to buy a car.

Abbacchio was really at a loss. He only saw Giorno as an unpleasant brat since he came into his life thus, it was wrong and repulsive to even entertain the idea of being with him.

Leone Abbacchio felt rage well up in the pit of his empty stomach, which overwhelmed him when the guards allowed him entry.

It was as if the Don had foreseen this day. Leone could imagine the younger boy reminding himself before bed that the older man’s rejection and humiliations would be worth it. They would be worth it because the roles would be reversed someday.

Giorno Giovanna must have planned this, or else why would he even bother to bring Abbacchio back from his death, right?

Before Leone Abbacchio could go into the Don's office, he paused. He was afraid that once inside, he would become his usual resentful and demanding self and ruin everything. Ruin the mood that, since Giorno Giovanna had shown him amorous impulses every moment he laid eyes on him, he thought he could induce for the young man.

If Giorno Giovanna wanted Leone Abbacchio to wax his entire lower region, then Abbacchio mentally convinced himself that he would comply.

If Giorno Giovanna wanted Leone Abbacchio to not wax and be natural, then Abbacchio mentally convinced himself that he would comply.

If Giorno Giovanna wanted Leone Abbacchio to spread his legs and place them over the Don's shoulders, then Abbacchio mentally convinced himself that he would comply.

If Giorno Giovanna wanted to turn Leone Abbacchio on his stomach and not care if he caused pleasure for the older man, then Abbacchio mentally convinced himself that he would comply.

Leone Abbacchio would do anything for love. For the love he had for his capo, Bruno Buccellati.

For the love he had for Narancia Ghirga, who viewed him and Bruno Buccellati as his parental figures.

The tall man made his way to the Don's desk, who stared attentively at his every move.

However, Giorno Giovanna was no longer the young, annoying boy who had a dream. He had grown a couple inches, his voice was deeper than it used to be, and his emerald eyes, which used to look up at Leone full of love, were now full of amusement.

More importantly, Giorno Giovanna did not want Leone Abbacchio anymore.

The respectful yet firm rejection destroyed that small candle of hope that Leone Abbacchio wasn't even aware he still had. Giorno Giovanna no longer displayed romantic interest in the taller man.

"Sending your guard dogs to go bother me during my shifts at the gas station. The multiple luxurious gifts that you've sent to my address-"

Leone Abbacchio sounded like a young teenage girl whose boyfriend just dumped her. He sounded so desperate that anyone who could have been eavesdropping would have thought that Leone Abbacchio was trying to convince Giorno Giovanna how to feel about him. Trying to remind the Don how in love he once was with the older man.

"I'm just worried about you, Leone."

Abbacchio hated the way Giorno said his name. Like a fucking venemous

snake slowly and quietly making his way to its prey, ready to swallow it whole.

"You're very special to me, Leone. You were a very important part of my life."

“An important part of your life?” Leone Abbacchio rolled his eyes while he scoffed. He wanted to laugh so hard at the stupidity that Giorno just said, yet his body betrayed him, and instead, tears started to spill.

The important part of his life where Giorno kissed the ground that Abbacchio walked on only to have his sincere affection brutally rejected?

The important part of Giorno's life when he wanted Leone for the sole reason that he couldn't have him?

Leone Abbacchio felt stupid for visiting and insinuating himself. He walked away from the Don, despite Giorno calling and chasing after him.

Leone Abbacchio’s pride had been hurt, but noticing how Giorno’s emerald eyes revealed a hint of interest in Mista’s small, toned waist only added salt to his wound.
