Work Text:
It was a sunny day with clear skies and a gentle breeze. Awful ordinarily, Nico decided, but perfect for waiting outside the university campus trying to find his medical student boyfriend. Nico studied at an art college close by and his usual Wednesday afternoon lesson had been cancelled so he'd come to surprise Will by picking him up from class. He leant against an oak tree at the entrance with his arms folded and his earbuds in blasting Green Day. He tried to ease his permanent scowl that only ever went away naturally with Will but he couldn't tell if he was succeeding or not.
A few kids gave him funny looks as they walked past but that might have just been his emo fashion style and old, tattered aviator jacket. Nico ducked his head down, hiding behind his long, black hair, which, in fairness, was shaggy but was one of the few things about him that wasn't quite stereotypically emo, unlike the lip ring that he was tugging at with his teeth nervously. Sure he'd been confident when he chose to come here but that was when he was in a fuck it mood and now he was welcoming back his dear friend crippling anxiety.
What if Will didn't even want to see him? Nico had never picked him up before; it was always the other way around. Oh gods, what if Will was embarrassed to have Nico there? What if he'd not told anyone about his creepy boyfriend and now Nico was going to ruin it for him? He should never have come. He should never have assumed...
"Neeks?"
Nico's head snapped up at the familiar voice. He allowed himself a small smile when he saw Will's trademark grin. The blonde didn't bother explaining to the group of friends following him but instead waved excitedly and half-ran over, enveloping Nico in a hug. Nico wrapped his arms around his boyfriend's waist, burying his head in his chest and hiding a slightly bigger smile now. Will pulled back, leaving a hand on Nico's shoulder and using the other to brush hair fondly out of the shorter boy's face.
"What are you doing here?" he asked cheerfully. Nico shrugged.
"Class was cancelled. I wanted to see you. I thought I might take you out for coffee or something. It's fine if you're busy, though. I get it," he started to ramble so Will kissed him to shut him up. Nico made a startled noise but happily obliged.
"Coffee sounds great, babe."
Nico blushed but was saved from embarrassing himself by one of Will's friends - dark-haired and tall but not as tall as Will - coughing and smiling. Will turned to his friends, slipping an arm around Nico's waist.
"I take it this is Nico," the dark-haired girl spoke up as she extended a hand that Nick shook. "I'm Avery. Nice to meet you."
"Vinnie," a red headed boy jumped in. He had a mischievous glint in his eyes that made the Italian think of the Stoll brothers. "You're kinda famous, y'know. Will talks about you a lot."
Nico smirked. "Does he now?"
"Vinnie! Nico's supposed to think I'm cool!"
"Solace, I live with you. I know you're a dork," Nico replied. Will's friends laughed. The others introduced themselves and Nico was once again blown away by his boyfriend's ability to make so many friends so easily. There were eight or nine of them at least and they all appeared to be part of Will's inner circle.
The boys said goodbye to them and headed hand in hand to the nearest coffee shop with Nico leaning gently into Will's side as they walked.
"Your friends are nice," he said.
"Yeah?" Will responded, sounding genuinely pleased. "I'm glad you approve."
"Why do I need to approve?" Nico raised an eyebrow. "It's not as if you're inviting them to live on the couch." He hesitated. "You're not, are you?"
Will chuckled. "No but I love you and I want you to get on with my friends and vice versa. You're all important to me. I can't have you hating each other."
"So you'd dump me if we didn't get along?" Nico teased. Will's expression turned solemn for a moment.
"No," he said sincerely. "I'd dump them. I'm always going to chose you, darlin'. Over everybody."
Nico's cheeks flushed pink. He nudged Will affectionately.
"Likewise. I love you, tesoro."
"I love you too, sunshine."
