Work Text:
“That's right, Jeon,” mentioned one of the faculty’s most demanding professors drawing a smile from a boy seated a few rows back, while someone else rolled their eyes in response. Jungkook was proud of himself for being one of the top students in his medical school.
No one could deny the tension felt during the long hours of class when they spoke, on one hand, Jungkook, who despite of being a little shy contributed relevant comments, earning compliments from classmates and teachers as he dedicated every free second to studying and researching topics that caught his attention.
“I don’t agree with my classmate's opinion,” Taehyung remarked confidently, presenting his argument with evident charm. His opinions carried weight, but he was also capable of persuading anyone with just a smile.
Of course, there were exceptions, like Jungkook, who grimaced as he listened to the blonde's words nullifying his every point. It bothered him immensely that Taehyung always seemed to get away with it, merely because of his pretty face and a couple of well-placed facts. Jungkook believed Taehyung didn’t even study that much, he was just a lucky fool.
It wasn't a one-time occurrence; the start of their debates dates back to one of their first days of class as freshmen, which is more than two years ago now. Jungkook was exhausted from it all; he put in effort every day, participating and studying for each of his classes, only to have his arguments nullified by Taehyung's.
He even believed that the older one did it just to annoy him, as he acted like an angel in front of any of their other classmates, never contradicting them and supporting them, while with him, it seemed like an endless competition for the top spot on every course.
★
“I hate him so much,” Jungkook groaned, throwing his head back against the wall, eliciting a giggle from Hoseok, one of his best friends who listened intently to his rant about what had happened a few hours ago.
Hoseok wasn’t even a medical student like them, nor did he attend the same college, but as Jungkook’s most trusted confidant, he knew everything that was going on and didn’t miss a chance to tease Jungkook about his rivalry with Taehyung, suggesting that his so-called enemy probably enjoyed provoking Jungkook just to get his attention.
Hoseok was the first friend he has ever made, first day of kindergarten seems intimidating as a little kid, but for them, it was the best day ever. They were inseparable, they grew up together. Jungkook always said Hoseok is the brother he wish he had, to that comment Hoseok would simple shush him with a laugh saying they are already siblings even if their families are completely opposite.
“He just can’t shut up,” the younger one sighed, gathering his things after receiving a message from his mother asking him where he was. "Every time I see him a chill runs down my spine."
"That's called love" Hoseok teased, also grabbing his belongings to leave their favorite kbbq place after having dinner together, as they were used to do at least once a week. "Or a triggered reaction"
Hoseok laugh along, he loved teasing his best friend, but he deeply wished that Jungkook could find someone romantically, even if it was Taehyung as long as he treats him well. Jungkook was a hopeless romantic and each one of their friends knew that, but only Hoseok knew how much he struggled in love during his past relationships, finding comfort in the academic burnout as an excuse for being single.
Jungkook chuckled at his friend’s remarks despite his frustration caused by the blonde one. Deep down, he knew he was better in their field, time will tell, and that’s all that mattered.
★
Jungkook's heart sank as he scanned through his graded exam paper. He had made a critical error in one of the questions about the cranial nerves in a magnetic resonance imaging, and it had significantly lowered his overall score. He sighed in frustration, realizing the implications of this mistake on his academic performance.
"Jeon, can you stay back for a moment?" the professor requested after dismissing the class.
Jungkook approached the professor's desk, feeling a knot in his stomach. "Yes, professor?"
The professor folded his arms, his expression a mix of concern and determination. "I've noticed your struggle with this particular topic. However, there's someone in this class who seems to have mastered it exceptionally well."
Jungkook's heart sank even further as he realized where this conversation was heading.
"Kim Taehyung," the professor continued, "has demonstrated a thorough understanding of the subject matter. I believe it would benefit both of you if I assigned you together for the upcoming group project on this topic. You can learn from each other's strengths."
Jungkook's jaw tightened. The idea of working closely with Taehyung, his academic rival, was daunting. But he couldn't argue with the professor's logic. Reluctantly, he nodded in agreement.
Later that day he read the email that made it official, he sighed in disbelief while reading their names together for the group distribution. Even if the professor said during class he'd assign the partners randomly, he knew that staying after the lecture would make him suspicious of being selected with Taehyung on purpose, he could already picture his mocking smile.

Hey, are you free tomorrow after class to work on the project? We just have a couple of days.
I'm Taehyung, btw.
His biggest fear was becoming real with each passing second, he felt as if he wanted to throw up. He fell in his bed, closing his eyes for a couple of minutes, as soon as they start, the sooner he would get back his peace.

Tomorrow at 3pm in the library, second floor, I'll get a study room for us.

😽👍🏻
Ugh, he made his blood boil. It was going to be a nightmare to work with him, but he needed to, not only for his grades on that course, but for his career.
★
"I said 3pm sharp" Jungkook said as soon as the blonde one opened the door of the study room.
"Hi to you too, Jungkook" the older replied indifferent to the fact that he arrived just few minutes late. As soon as he sat down, he grabbed Jungkook's hand, stopping him from making noise with the pen he had between his fingers "Calm down, it's not that late, I just had to do something before coming here."
Jungkook rolled his eyes, removing his hand from the other's grip. "We have to make a presentation about the cranial nerves, it has to be dynamic, not just reading a PowerPoint."
"I never read the slides while presenting" The blonde one interrupted with a pout, while Jungkook sighed "I'm reading the professor's instructions, I'm not attacking you, calm down" he said, pronouncing the last couple of words with a lower tone, mocking Taehyung.
With that, both started discussing ideas to make their project. Jungkook didn't missed a chance to ask some questions he had about the topic, not making it obvious that he was lacking knowledge in some areas.
As Jungkook paced back and forth reviewing notes and diagrams, Taehyung remained focused on his own approach, occasionally releasing a sigh of frustration when things didn’t go as expected. They knew it was late when the library kept getting lonelier and the sun started to set. Jungkook was getting fuzzy and distracted, he didn't had a chance to get lunch and he wasn't used to eat breakfast when he had lectures first time in the morning, so by now, his stomach was yearning for something to eat.
Jungkook's mind raced with conflicting emotions as the hours ticked by in the library. The fatigue from a long day of classes coupled with his empty stomach made it challenging to concentrate. He stole a glance at Taehyung, who seemed oddly composed despite the late hour. How did he manage to stay so collected?
"Would you like a chocolate chip cookie?" Taehyung interrupted his train of thought, and for a second Jungkook believed he was able to read his mind. "I'm hungry and I guess you are too, we've been here almost three hours, I can share them with you if you want."
His eyes tracked the package of cookies as Taehyung opened it and placed it on the table, making sure they weren't visible if a librarian passed by. Jungkook nodded, grabbing a cookie without hesitation, trying not to seem too eager.
"I can't work without eating sugar, it makes me so happy" Taehyung said, filling the comfortable silence during their impromptu break. "I can't believe this is my first meal of the day" Jungkook said before biting another cookie, after asking with his glance if he could get one more.
Taehyung choked lightly "You haven't eaten anything yet?" Jungkook shrugged. "I didn't had enough time."
His eyes widened when Taehyung closed his laptop and got up to pack his things. "Why are you watching? Get your things, you need to eat" he said while also getting his pack of cookies, placing them in the pocket of his hoodie.
Jungkook just froze in his place, why did the older one react like that? He couldn't even make up his mind before Taehyung started helping him get everything inside his backpack.
As they were leaving the cubicle and going down the stairs to the front door. Jungkook felt anxious. He didn't like how sudden everything happened. His eyes were itching, but he knew that he couldn't just cry because of that.
Jungkook felt small following Taehyung. He didn't wanted to listen to his own thoughts telling him mean stuff, so he was focused on the scenery. The sun had already set, and as they walked down the street the wind blew, making it obvious that the summer ending.
When they entered the convenience store, Taehyung stood in front of him. "Get anything you want, it's my treat.”
Jungkook just nodded, getting a pack of instant noodles and a bottle of water, taking them to the register where the blonde one was already waiting with some other items.
"I'm sorry" Taehyung said while Jungkook took his first bite. "I shouldn't have snapped, it was rude. I didn't even ask why you haven't eaten. It could have been something medical or maybe something happened, and I-"
"It's okay. I didn't like how you reacted but it's okay" Jungkook interrupted before getting his mouth full, enjoying the warm food. "I just lost track of time."
Taehyung nodded slightly. "You should eat and sleep properly, your future doctor is here, making you get angry."
"Oh, as if I'll let you treat me" chuckled, lifting some tension as they continued eating and talking.
"Thank you for the meal, hyung" Jungkook said when they arrived at his apartment building. Taehyung had offered to walk him there after they spent some time together.
"Sorry again for what happened" Taehyung said while searching for something in his backpack "My little sister always says it's important to always have a snack with you so you can have it if your tummy hurts, your mind gets cloudy, or your heart gets sad" he said with a smile while giving him a brand-new pack of the cookies they shared in the library.
Jungkook smiled. He was glad there wasn't enough light, so his rosy cheeks weren't noticeable. His heart wasn't sad at all that night.

Jungkook sat nervously in front of his laptop, staring at the screen displaying the graded project results. His heart raced as he scrolled down to find their assignment. When he saw the final score, a mix of relief and surprise washed over him. It was the highest grade in the class.
Quickly recovering from his initial shock, Jungkook reached for his phone, playing one of his favorite playlists before opening the messages app.

We got the highest grade!
A sigh of relief filled the room, even if his last exam made him feel like the world was ending, this assignment was enough to make him (almost) regain his perfect GPA.

He saw the message through the notification bar while walking to the bathroom to start his skincare routine before going to sleep, being interrupted by another buzzing sound.

Wanna go celebrate?
Jungkook flashed a smile at the words showing on his screen. Biting his lip he wondered if it was a good idea. After their initial meeting for the project they, they had to spend some hours together to finish the assignment, and even if it was initially awkward, they ended up laughing more than once.
They wouldn't consider themselves friends, of course their rivalry was still present during classes. Taehyung was exhausted from telling him that not every bit of knowledge was in books but in real-life experiences, while Jungkook said that the research existed for a reason, and in their field, it was the most important thing.

Maybe... Where are we going?

It's a secret!!! I'll pick you up in 10 minutes
Jungkook felt nervous as he inspected his clothes. He liked his simple outfit, but he wasn't sure if it was good enough to wear wherever Taehyung might take him, so he changed into something more casual.
Eight minutes later, he was already at his doorstep ready to go. He was glad that it was Friday, so he shouldn't have to give an excuse for going out in the middle of the night. His parents were really okay with him partying and enjoying his youth, they even encouraged him to spend more time with his friends.
September was about to end, and the leaves started to fall off the trees. Jungkook liked the cold weather. He enjoyed being cozy at home, cuddling with his pet and watching movies. He wasn't really a fan of going out.
A white car parked in front of him, and soon he could recognize the driver, it was Taehyung.
"Where are we going?" asked as soon as he was in the car.
"A bit impatient, aren't we?" The blonde one chuckled while fixing his silver necklace. "Okay, I have two options in mind, but first, would you like to hang out with more people or just the two of us?"
Jungkook thought about it for about a second. "Just us", he announced.
"Oh, I see, you don't want anyone to know that you hang out with me, I embarrass you" the blonde one teased, starting to drive. "Arcade and late night snacks sounds good?"
Jungkook nodded as soon as he could. He loved arcades, but he hadn't been able to go there in months, making the plan sound really appealing.
★
The atmosphere was making his heart flutter. It wasn’t a place people his age would like to hang out with friends on a Friday night, so the few people there were mostly couples.
The colorful lights shined through their faces, and Jungkook felt comfortable next to the blonde-haired one who was guiding him to his favorite game.
Jungkook wanted to mention that he did not have the arcade card to be able to play, but his words stuck in his throat when Taehyung, without warning, took out the distinctive black card with doodles in neon colors, passing it twice through the machine and activating the game for both.
“Let’s start with this zombie game,” he said while selecting the game settings. “You just have to shoot them and prevent them from biting us,” the blonde continued as the game started, and both shot the approaching zombies.
Two games later, in which they were victorious, Taehyung pointed out a skee-ball game, mentioning that that was one of his favorites, but he was not the best at playing it, so he challenged Jungkook who just nodded in agreement, being sure he’d win.
The goal was simple: they had a minute and they had to insert the balls into the holes in front of them, where the simplest were worth ten points and the most complicated one hundred.
Time began to run. Jungkook, being ambitious, began to throw the first balls to the highest-scored holes, failing in the majority, while Taehyung, next to him, secured his score between the low and mid-score holes.
At the end, both were agitated, seeing their own screen waiting for their final score. With a smile forming on the face of the elder when he noticed how he had won with only a 20-point difference, to which the opposite asked for revenge, ending in one more game in which he was defeated.
“I don’t know if you’re letting me win on purpose or I’m just very good at this game,” said the eldest while claiming the dozen tickets that came out of the machine, giving these to the chestnut-haired, who effectively kept them in one of his pockets while he rolled his eyes.
“Oh, I would never let you win on purpose, especially when you are always trying to beat me at everything,” he said, heading towards the air hockey table, where he intended to demonstrate how good his reflexes were, and that he would not be defeated so easily.
The blonde laughed as he passed the card through the machine, thus starting the game when he placed the disc in the middle of the board, looking at the opposite in sign for him to give the first shot. “Don’t defame me; I don’t try to beat you at everything,” he said, hitting the disc. “I don’t like to compete.”
The younger frowned as he continued with the game, defending his side very well and managing to score a point in his rival’s area. “It seems quite the opposite; you are always contradicting me,” he said while waiting for Taehyung to put the disc back in the starting position, giving the first shot and inserting a point seconds later. “That’s because you look adorable while being angry.”
“Shush, lying is a bad thing,” he said, taking advantage of the elder’s distraction to be able to insert another point on his side, smiling with satisfaction.
The game continued for a couple more minutes, resulting in Jungkook winning with a score of 5-2, which made him do a happy wiggle, to which the blonde one, with a smile, said he had only lost because he was hungry.
Being almost two in the morning, one of the few options available was a pizzeria near the university that they both attended. On their way to the place, they were deciding the destination of the tickets they obtained during the night, since it was not much, the best prize they could claim was a play-doh. Ending in a promise to return to the place together and win many more tickets.
“I didn’t even know I was hungry until I took the first bite,” Jungkook said, closing his eyes, longing for the pizza that had been finished minutes before. “I told you, these pizzas are even better after midnight,” Taehyung replied with a laugh.
Back in the car, the way home was quiet. Taehyung drove slowly while humming one of the songs that was playing on the radio. Jungkook looked out the window, enjoying how comfortable he felt in the company of the opposite. “I’m sorry,” he said, taking Taehyung out of his thoughts. “Sorry if sometimes I’m very defiant and I don’t treat you in the best way just because I don’t agree with your opinion.”
“It’s okay to have the wrong opinions,” he replied while parking on the side of the street. “I’m joking; it’s fine. I know that your grades are very important to you, and I’m sorry if I sometimes bother you by contradicting you; most of the time I just do it to tease you.”
Jungkook smiled as he nodded, feeling comfortable under the elder’s gaze. “I think the same thing.”

Jungkook wanted to show Taehyung that he was committed to their recent bond, so he took advantage of having an early morning class the next day to arrive a bit earlier than usual. Quickly, he walked over to the other's seat, leaving a post-it note there before returning to his own seat, pretending everything was normal.
The blond arrived a few minutes later, still sleepy as he wasn't exactly a morning person and seized every opportunity to delay his alarms. A baby yellow note caught his attention, forming a smile as he read Jungkook's distinct handwriting.
« Lunch together? It's on me :) »
As soon as class ended, Taehyung walked over to the younger one, who was still packing up. "So, lunch is on you?" he asked with a smile. He wasn't quite used to being friendly with Jungkook yet, or maybe a little teasing was part of his personality.
The walk to the restaurant they had chosen was peaceful; they laughed and teased their professor who had a habit of repeating himself several times before reaching a conclusion.
"Is this your dog?" Jungkook asked, seeing the lock screen of the elder's phone when he checked the time. "Yep, it's my son, Yeontan," he said proudly, scrolling through his gallery to show another picture of his pet. "So cute, but he has a grumpy face just like his owner."
Taehyung chuckled, "He is grumpy, but he didn't get that from me," he declared before continuing, "I miss him a lot, he's in Daegu with my parents."
Jungkook didn't want to pry, but he enjoyed getting to know people better, and the elder had always been a puzzle to solve. "How long has it been since you visited him?" he asked, emphasizing Yeontan to gather more information.
"I usually go during winter and summer break, unless I get an internship or something else here that saves me from going back there," he mentioned, pausing to thank the waiter who swiftly placed their order on the table. "Do you have pets?"
And that was enough for Jungkook—proud dog dad that he was—to start talking about his beloved doberman, sharing with the elder pictures from when he was a puppy to the present day.
The blond fondly looked at Jungkook, noticing how his eyes lit up when talking about something that made him happy, taking small pauses to eat the dumplings in front of them, not wanting the food to get cold. He was the cutest.
After spending over two hours in the restaurant sharing experiences, they decided to take a stroll around the city after noticing the staff eyeing them with annoyance after lingering for so long. Taehyung was grateful for being able to bring his car to Seoul; even though he hated driving, it helped him get to his destinations faster or, like now, provided a comfortable space in the midst of the city.
Jungkook was so engrossed in the conversation that he didn't notice when the elder parked in front of a beautiful park where autumn was the main character, with leaves gracefully falling from the trees.
The silence between them was comfortable, filled only by the soft music playing on the radio. Both were confident they could stay like this for hours.
"It's barely autumn and I already miss summer," Jungkook said, captivated by the movement caused by the wind. He had always felt that the last months of the year, despite having his favorite holidays, carried a somewhat melancholic vibe.
Taehyung pouted, "I'm the opposite—I'm a winter lover. Maybe it's because I was born in that season, but it makes me very happy," he mentioned, alternating his gaze between Jungkook and the beautiful sunset before them. "Polar opposites, aren’t we?"
Jungkook smiled as he nodded, watching as the blond took his phone out to capture a few photos of the scenery. In his mind, Taehyung's words made him a bit nervous; he had heard before about how opposites attract each other.
★
Their encounters became more intentional. Taehyung would surprise Jungkook with his favorite snacks, and Jungkook would stay up late to help Taehyung with a challenging project.
"So you're telling me Hobi was right about this enemies-to-lovers love story?" inquired Yoongi, after listening the latest update of Jungkoook’s social life, receiving a slight hit to his shoulder from his boyfriend who just laughed after chanting "I told you."
"I won't say lovers, more like enemies to friends" Jungkook said with a soft blush on his cheeks. They were in one of the green areas near to his campus, it was a miracle when the three of them could share a free moment within their academic life.
Yoongi, Hoseok's boyfriend, was studying music production, and being close to the last semester, his hourly load was not so loaded compared to theirs. However, he spent his available hours working in a not-very-recognized label, and although the pay was not wonderful, every penny counts.
On the other hand, Hoseok gave dance classes in an academy, adjusting his schedules after attending his architecture classes, influenced by his parents' belief to have "a real job."
Jungkook sometimes felt that his life was very simple. He pursued the career that had been his dream since he was little, and his family lived well enough not to force him to get a part-time job, although he used to do it during the summer holidays when boredom became unbearable.
"Yet, enemies to lovers yet," Hoseok said confidently "He sounds sweet. I approve him as your partner"
However, he stopped talking when he noticed that the younger with a smile greeted with his hand someone who was behind where he and Yoongi were sitting. They didn't have to turn back to see when a shadow covered their bodies, asking if he could accompany them.
Taehyung sat next to Jungkook, who couldn't take his eyes off the eldest's newly dyed hair. Now his hair was dark brown, almost black. It was incredible to notice how well everything suited him.
"I'm Hoseok, this is my boyfriend Yoongi, and you are?" Hoseok said, noticing how Jungkook was so lost in his world that he hadn't even started a conversation.
"Tsk, haven't you told your friends about me?" The former blond asked, placing one of his hands on Jungkook's thigh, gently caressing him.
Of course, they knew about him; he had been their topic of conversation just a few seconds ago, but he would be too embarrassed to admit that. Hoseok and Yoongi simply looked at the newcomer, refraining from saying anything imprudent despite noticing how nervous their friend had become.
Jungkook bit his lower lip "Obviously, they know about the one who always contradicts me in class and provokes each of my headaches"
"I'm not like that anymore," Taehyung said with a pout, "My name is Taehyung, I hope you haven't heard the bad things he's told you about me."
★
As autumn faded into winter, their bond deepened. Late-night study sessions turned into movie marathons, shared meals turned into long walks under twinkling lights. Taehyung’s heart skipped a beat whenever Jungkook’s gaze lingered, and Jungkook found solace in Taehyung’s understanding smiles.
Jungkook had lowered his guard. He was still the star student, envied by his classmates and appreciated by his teachers, but the stress had lifted from his shoulders, and he was learning to enjoy his life outside the academic realm. His friendship with Taehyung was still recent, and with the arrival of December, he could say that he found warmth in the company of the elder, with whom he shared most of his days.
"Today is Marvel night," he said as soon as Taehyung opened the door, extending a plastic bag full of snacks to share during the night.
Taehyung, unlike Jungkook, lived in a university dorm, so on Fridays they spent together in his place, taking advantage of the fact that his roommate, Jimin, used to travel to Busan during the weekend.
Only a few minutes passed before both of them were settled in the elder's bed. Jungkook had the laptop on his lap, leaving Iron Man 2 ready to play while Taehyung opened each bag of snacks, unable to resist placing an acid gummy between his lips before arranging the pillows so that both were comfortable.
"Today it's Iron Man's turn again, I think you'll like this movie more than the previous one," said the younger, covering both bodies with the soft blanket.
"We'll see, although I keep thinking that Captain America is the best," he said, just with the intention of teasing the chestnut-haired, taking the opportunity to wrap his arms around his shoulders, drawing him closer while the Marvel movie began to play.
The film was about to end when a notification interrupted the concentration of both. Jungkook quickly checked his cell phone, rising when he noticed what it was about. "Mr. Kang updated the exam grades."
With that, Taehyung mirrored his actions, pausing the movie before taking out his phone and accessing his university's platform. It was an important exam, the last evaluation before the final exam. Both had studied together for days, and after the exam, they ended up overwhelmed by how complicated it had been.
Taehyung's breathing was regulated when he saw his grade. He was not proud of it, but knowing that he had passed was enough. His gaze turned to the younger, who had not said anything about it.
His gaze was fixed, staring at the screen of his phone. Taehyung positioned himself to peek at the result, opening his eyes in surprise to see that Jungkook had failed.
"Jungkook, baby..." Taehyung whispered, using a nickname that had become common among them and that he had noticed that it made the little one happy.
"Okay, it's just an exam" Taehyung said, placing his hand on the other's cheek, gently caressing it.
He hated to see someone else cry, especially someone who was important to him. "We're not studying today, we're just going to watch a movie together and—"
"Y-you don't get it, I've never failed an exam before, I have always been good at this stuff" Jungkook said with tears rolling down his face. "I can't fail, I-I can't keep distracting myself when I should be studying"
Taehyung just sighed. He knew how hard the younger one was being on himself. It was a horrible exam; he luckily passed with the minimum score.
"Uh-uh, I won't let you get suffocated in books once again," he said, recalling how at the beginning of their friendship, Jungkook had refused to spend a minute of his time on anything other than studying.
Jungkook's gaze darkened as he got up from his place in bed, leaving Taehyung bewildered. "It's your fault. Everything was going well until we got close."
Taehyung observed him, frowning, feeling his jaw tense at the accusation. "My fault? The only thing we do all the time is study so that you don't feel guilty for living your life," he said, a little annoyed.
"This is not living my life. I must get good grades to be able to graduate and have a future," he said as he began to gather his things, silently indicating that his stay was over. "The only thing I do with you is waste my time. Surely this was your plan from the beginning, pretending to be kind just to earn my trust and get better grades than me."
"Are you even listening, Jungkook?" Taehyung said, frustrated to be accused of something he would never do. "I've told you a thousand times, I'm not interested in grades. I'm not even interested in this career. I only do it because I couldn't choose what I really like."
And it was true. Their encounters, aside from being full of fun moments, also included deep conversations, and they had even cried together.
Taehyung had opened his heart to Jungkook, sharing about his family conflicts and how he felt obligated to become a doctor when his true passion was photography.
Jungkook had been understanding during that conversation. Even if he couldn't relate, he used the stories of his friends to understand how Taehyung felt and encouraged him to pursue his passion as a hobby until he could be economically independent.
Now, Jungkook even doubted if that story was real, or if it was just a way to manipulate him and evoke sympathy to spend time together, distracting him from what really mattered to him—his future.
"You're a liar," Jungkook said, getting his backpack before opening the front door. "It was a mistake to trust you," he concluded as he left, slamming the door behind him, leaving Taehyung puzzled.

"Jungkook, open, you need to eat," Seokjin said as he knocked on his younger brother's door.
Jungkook would probably have ignored it, just as he did since the morning if it hadn't been because his stomach was begging for some food. He sighed and got up from his desk, opening the door, being greeted by his brother, who held a buldak carbonara ramen (his favorite) and a chocolate bar in one hand.
"Thank you" he said in a thread of voice, accepting the food and feeling delighted as soon as the smell of hot noodles reached his nose. However, he didn't expect Seokjin to enter his room, inspecting it before sitting on his bed, inviting Jungkook to join him.
"What's wrong?" He asked, as gently as possible.
Seokjin had visited the day before to share dinner with their parents, knowing that Jungkook had left. He was happy to see that these visits had become more frequent. Having not lived at home for several years and being deeply involved in his cardiology specialty while working at one of Seoul's most prestigious hospitals, he had little time to keep in touch. Thus, he cherished these surprise visits as opportunities to catch up on family life.
In recent years, the brothers had grown distant, especially since Seokjin began studying medicine. Their parents' attention was solely focused on their eldest son, praising him for his every achievement. Jungkook understood that Seokjin deserved this attention, but he couldn't help but feel resentful.
"Nothing's wrong," he replied before taking his first bite. "I'm just busy studying."
Seokjin knew his younger brother was lying because the night before, as he was preparing to leave, Jungkook returned home. Although Jungkook greeted everyone warmly, his teary eyes and urgent retreat to his room did not escape Seokjin's notice.
His parents overlooked Jungkook's behavior, but Seokjin couldn't ignore it. With a smile, he asked if he could stay the night, genuinely wanting to comfort Jungkook.
Seokjin nodded, rising to lock the door before returning to Jungkook's side. "You can trust me, you know that, right?"
Jungkook scoffed, rolling his eyes "I've already trusted enough people that I shouldn't have" he mentioned with his mouth full.
"Who did you trust?" The eldest asked, hoping for more information. When Jungkook met his gaze, Seokjin saw tears in his eyes.
It had been a long time since Jungkook felt comfortable enough with his brother to confide in him. Now, in his room comforted by Seokjin, he felt like a child again.
Seokjin listened attentively, caressing Jungkook's back as he cried, expressing his frustration at failing and feeling betrayed by Taehyung's indifference to his problem.
When Jungkook finished, he looked to his brother for advice, accepting the water bottle from his bedside table.
"I know I'm not the best person to say this, but I think your friend is right—grades are not everything," Seokjin said with apprehension, knowing his role was to support his brother but unable to ignore his own reflections on the situation, wishing he had had someone like Taehyung to guide him.
"Yes, you're not the best person to say it," Jungkook said, wiping his tears with his hoodie sleeve. "Look at you, you're perfect—you excelled throughout your education, work at a prestigious hospital, are almost a cardiologist, have many friends, and are marrying the love of your life. You have everything," he said as new tears filled his eyes.
Seokjin nodded, grateful for everything in his life—financial stability, physical health, and emotional well-being. He embraced his brother softly, gently stroking his hair. "And I achieved all that when I stopped overwhelming myself and trying to meet others' expectations."
Jungkook looked at him, seeking an explanation, which Seokjin quickly provided. It turned out their lives weren't so different after all.
★
The days flew by, yet despite lacking the necessary energy, Jungkook managed to attend all his classes without fail.
It wasn't easy. In each lecture, he could feel the weight of someone's gaze piercing into his back, and encounters in the hallways felt increasingly tormenting.
The owner of that gaze, Taehyung, hadn't had it easy either. He felt hurt by Jungkook's words. Even Jimin had insisted on making Taehyung the third wheel on his dates with Namjoon, refusing to let him approach Jungkook again until he at least apologized.
But Taehyung missed him terribly. He longed for their established routine of helping each other study and sharing their interests. He missed their pizza Tuesdays and Marvel Fridays, the surprise packages of cookies, and the adorable post-it notes. He missed exchanging photos of beautiful things they encountered during the day and sharing new music discoveries.
Day by day, it grew harder for Taehyung to shake off thoughts of Jungkook, especially with the looming week of final exams approaching.
Jungkook, too, found himself dwelling on the past. His mind was consumed with "what ifs." He remembered how weeks ago, Taehyung had eagerly planned a week-long sleepover dedicated to studying together, interspersed with short breaks for relaxation, food, and sleep.
He couldn't turn back time, nor could he undo the rift that had formed between them. Even if he asked for forgiveness, the things wouldn’t be the same. As he donned his reading glasses and began reviewing his notes, he repeated to himself that he had to keep going.
★
His first exam was on Monday; Jungkook had learned enough during the semester to just review some concepts and feel confident.
Arriving at his exam, Jungkook went to his seat and discovered a package of cookies on the table— the same ones he had shared with Taehyung at the start of their friendship. He scanned the room for Taehyung, who was absorbed in reviewing his notes.
The unresolved feelings between them lingered, silently pushing for a reconciliation neither knew how to navigate.

Thank you.

👍🏻
Jungkook's heart ached at Taehyung's brief response, but he shook off the feeling and turned off his phone, ready to ace in the exam.
The next exam was that afternoon, but Jungkook had a couple of hours free. As he studied in the library, every minute felt unbearable.
He couldn't shake the unease knowing it was a subject Taehyung struggled with. Jungkook had promised to help him study— that's what friends did. But were they still friends?
A figure with dark brown hair caught his eye. Taehyung sat a few tables away, focused on his laptop. He seemed engrossed in his studies, unaware of Jungkook's gaze.
Jungkook's phone buzzed.
seokjin • 02:41 p.m.
Mom said that you were starting your final exams today. Good luck! (Don't forget what we talked about the other day 😉)
He sighed after reading the message. The last thing he wanted was to dwell on his brother's advice. He knew he had made a mistake and needed to apologize, but he feared rejection. What if Taehyung didn't want him back? The thought was unbearable.
His rational side scolded him. He felt like a coward for not even confiding in his best friend, who had sensed something was wrong with him whenever Taehyung came up in conversation.
Instinctively, Jungkook grabbed some post-it notes, selected a green one, quickly writing on it.
« Good luck today, Tae! ♡ :) »
He saw the post-it, closing his eyes briefly before getting up, dropping the note on Taehyung's keyboard before quickly heading to the bathroom. Inside, he splashed cold water on his face, chuckling at his trembling hands from nerves.
Upon exiting the bathroom, his heart sank again when he noticed Taehyung's table was empty. It took only seconds to spot him again, now at his table with all his belongings.
"Taehyung, I—" Jungkook began as he approached, only to be cut off.
"I don't understand how you wish me luck but still haven't explained this topic to me," Jungkook looked at him confused, to which the eldest simply pointed to his laptop displaying slides from a recent course topic.
Without hesitation, Jungkook started explaining the topic to him. Despite the coldness of their interaction, Jungkook felt a sense of calmness being by Taehyung's side.
★
The week ended sooner than expected, granting Jungkook the freedom to sleep as much as he wanted and catch up on every series on his watchlist. However, with the start of the holidays, Jungkook felt an overwhelming sense of loneliness.
Hoseok had extended his hours at the academy, and Yoongi was swamped with work, leaving little time for rest. Although Jungkook's relationship with Seokjin had improved, he hesitated to ask him to share what little free time he had.
As for Taehyung, Jungkook hadn't seen him since their last exam a couple of days ago. Even after their interaction in the library, their exchanges were limited to a smile whenever their eyes met.

Can we talk?
He sent a message without second thoughts, deep down fearful that Taehyung might have already returned to Daegu to spend winter vacation with his family. He worried that delaying this conversation might have cost him the chance to apologize in person.
Minutes passed, nerves gnawing at him as he noticed Taehyung wasn't responding as promptly as he used to do. Then, a notification caught his attention.

I'm leaving for Daegu at midnight and I'm packing my things. I don't think I have enough time.
Jungkook didn't know what to do. He truly wanted the chance to apologize in person but didn't want to impose on Taehyung's plans or rush him.

How about 9 pm at our pizza place?
A smile lit up Jungkook's face. Perhaps not all was lost between them after all.
★
Nine o'clock arrived, and Jungkook hoped the traffic light would change so he could cross the last street before reaching his destination. In the distance, he spotted Taehyung leaving the pizzeria, holding a pizza box in one hand and a plastic bag in the other.
As Jungkook approached, Taehyung tilted his head, inviting him to follow, without saying a word. Christmas was approaching, and the streets were filled with festive lights and decorations, creating a cozy atmosphere on every corner.
They walked for less than five minutes until they reached Han River and instinctively sat on a bench. Taehyung placed the pizza between them, opening it with a smile, proudly revealing Jungkook's favorite flavor.
Taehyung took a slice of pizza, his gaze fixed on Jungkook. "I'm listening," he said.
Jungkook began to fidget with his fingers, a nervous habit he had recently noticed. "I wanted to apologize..." he started, unable to maintain eye contact. "I said things I shouldn't have that night. I let my frustration get the best of me and took it out on you when all you did was help me."
His eyes started to itch, and he bit his lip to hold back a sob. "I've never felt so alive until you came into my life."
In his line of sight, a can of soda appeared, also his favorite flavor. "I'm sorry for ruining everything," he continued, accepting the drink and closing his eyes tightly while taking a few sips.
"The pizza is getting cold," Taehyung remarked, waiting for Jungkook to take a slice before speaking further. "Your words hurt me deeply," he admitted.
Jungkook quickly wiped away the tears that escaped his eyes. Knowing he had hurt Taehyung was unforgivable to him.
"But I understand where you were coming from. You were going through a tough time, and my response wasn't the most appropriate," Taehyung continued, placing his hand on Jungkook's, stopping him from fidgeting.
"Even so, I shouldn't have treated you poorly. None of this was your fault," Jungkook said, taking another bite of pizza to distract himself from his desire to cry.
"You shouldn't have, but you recognize your mistake, and I accept your apology," Taehyung replied, brushing his hand against Jungkook's cheek.
Jungkook admired Taehyung's noble heart and kindness toward everyone. However, a doubt lingered, "Don't you hate me?"
"I could never," Taehyung assured him.
That night, Jungkook went to sleep with a bittersweet feeling in his heart. He was completely happy to have reconnected with Taehyung, but at the same time, he felt unsettled knowing that he wouldn't see him again until the start of the new semester, which was still far off.
The discomfort didn't last long, as upon waking up to the sound of his phone, he saw that Taehyung had sent three new pictures. Yeontan, Yeontan in the blond's arms, and finally an image of Taehyung in his bed.
His eyes lingered on the last photo; he couldn't help but notice every detail of Taehyung. Despite constant dyeing, his hair looked shiny and smooth, his eyes sparkled, each of his moles was a little mark that complemented his face well, and his lips... his lips looked very hydrated, tempting Jungkook to want to bite them.
With a chuckle, he continued to admire the details of the other, spending long seconds looking at the faint outline of his collarbones just visible under his shirt neckline.
He shook his head to clear those thoughts from his mind, opting instead to send a simple « A cutie (I’m talking about Tannie) » as he got up to start his day.
He didn't fear the distance as much if he could maintain that kind of communication with Taehyung. It was tolerable knowing that he would always have him close in some way.
★
Jungkook wasn't the best at giving gifts; in fact, he often avoided giving them out of fear that they wouldn't be liked by the recipient. Christmas was particularly tricky; every time his family decided to do Secret Santa, he felt like banging his head against the wall, especially when he ended up drawing one of his aunts or a teenage cousin.
"I'm so lucky this year, at least I got someone I know well," he said as he lay on his bed, holding his phone firmly while FaceTiming Taehyung.
Taehyung smiled, "And what are you planning to give him? Any gift ideas?" he asked as he looked around before crossing the street, walking his pet.
"Money, he always says he prefers money, and I don't blame him. Most gifts people give are terrible," Jungkook replied absentmindedly as he changed the colors of the LED lights in his room, feeling comfortable settling on navy blue.
Taehyung shook his head, showing how opposed he was to the idea. "Everyone likes money, but I think it would be nice to give him something personalized, something related to his interests or with symbolic value for both of you," he suggested. "After all, he's your brother."
Jungkook pondered this for a couple of seconds, admitting that the blond was right. Seokjin's birthday had been a few days ago, and he had received money along with his favorite cake as a gift; Jungkook could do better than that.
His mind scanned through each of his brother's interests, and there was plenty to choose from, like his passion for video games or his love for cooking; he was sure he'd come up with something in the next few days.
"When's your birthday?" he asked, recalling one of their past conversations where Taehyung had mentioned being born in winter. Soon a soft laugh sounded through the screen. "December 30th, pretty."
Jungkook smiled, unsure if it was because that date was approaching or because of the nickname the elder had used. "I thought so, you're a Capricorn. For a second, I hoped you were a different sign."
"Oh, shut up. At least Capricorn and Virgo are highly compatible," Taehyung replied, turning his screen away so the younger wouldn't see his cheeks flush at revealing that information.
"You want me so bad," Jungkook giggled jokingly, making a mental note to prepare an unforgettable birthday gift for Taehyung, making the most of the time until they would see each other again.
★
"I can't believe you dragged me all over town just to buy gifts," Yoongi grumbled as he dramatically flopped onto his sofa. They had finally arrived at his apartment after visiting several places in search of what the younger one desperately wanted to find.
Jungkook confidently opened his friend's refrigerator, taking out a bottle of water for each of them. "Stop complaining. You got a jacket for Hoseok and new headphones," he said with a slight pout.
It had been exhausting; they had spent the entire morning visiting stores that had drastically reduced their prices after the peak season, which Jungkook was determined to take advantage of. He would be lying if he said he hadn't spent days considering the perfect gift for Taehyung until he finally had it in his hands.
"I was honestly surprised by how much you spent on him. You must have depleted your lifelong savings," Yoongi remarked, not intending to make the younger one feel bad.
Jungkook just rolled his eyes. "I know, it was expensive, but it's something he'll really like," he said confidently as he lounged on the couch in front of his friend. "Plus, it's his belated Christmas and birthday gift, so he deserves something special."
"I'm not judging; I'm just saying, you two seem like a couple. I don't even know Hoseok's preferences that well, and we've been dating for three years," Yoongi remarked.
Jungkook shrugged, a smile playing on his lips. "We're not even more than friends, and I'm okay with that."
"But would you like to be more than friends?" Yoongi asked, turning to look at him. While he had gotten into the habit of teasing him about his bond with Taehyung, this was the first time they were really talking about his feelings.
Jungkook bit his lower lip, nodding for a couple of seconds before shaking his head. "I don't know. I like how I feel when we're together, but I don't know if it's mutual or if I'm just confusing it with friendship," he sighed.
Yoongi settled back on the sofa, sitting up properly as he examined the younger one's body language. "Imagine it is mutual. Would you want to date him?" he asked.
"I mean, yes, I enjoy spending time together, even if they're not actual dates," Jungkook admitted, closing his eyes. "But the other day, I couldn't get out of my head how it would feel to kiss him," he confessed.
It was the first time Jungkook had admitted his feelings in that way; in past relationships, he always told his friends when they were already dating. It was embarrassing for him to admit how many times he had wanted to kiss Taehyung or hold hands while walking. He was scared to confess how much he wanted to hug him for more than a few seconds when saying goodbye and how much he wanted to be the reason behind his smiles.
"That's it, you're in love," Yoongi said with a smile. "Unless you also want to kiss Hobi and me."
Jungkook made a face before bursting into laughter. What was he going to do with his feelings now?
★
With the arrival of spring, the weather was warming up, and so was Jungkook's heart knowing that school routine was just a few weeks away, which meant spending time with Taehyung.
Ever since Jungkook had come to terms with his feelings for the older boy, a persistent sense of anticipation had taken root within him. He hadn't dared to confess his feelings yet, not until he was certain they were reciprocated.

His eyes reread the message not once but several times to shake off his initial shock.

See you in ten. 😽
Quickly, his eyes scanned around him. His room was a mess, despite the hour, he was still rotting in bed, with snack wrappers on his desk and clothes strewn across the floor.
He cursed himself under his breath as he hastily began tidying up. There was no way he could let Taehyung see his room in this state, so opposite from his neat and organized nature.
He was grateful his family wasn't home; he couldn't bear their judgmental looks as he rushed around, managing to tidy his room impeccably and have a few spare minutes for a quick shower, avoiding wetting his hair. He dressed in comfortable joggers and an oversized black t-shirt. Yes, he was hoping to make a good impression without appearing like he had tried too hard.
When his phone pinged with a new message he knew Taehyung had arrived. He took a deep breath to calm his nerves. He opened the door and was taken aback by Taehyung's appearance.
"You're blonde again," remarked, letting him in, soon being attacked by paws running toward him in search of affection. Taehyung nodded with a grin as he knelt down, starting to pet his friend's dog. "I was bored, needed a change."
"It suits you, blonde looks really good on you."
Taehyung smiled, accepting the compliments. "And you rock those piercings," he mentioned, dodging Bam's licks on his face.
Jungkook blushed, feeling slightly self-conscious. He hadn't expected Taehyung to notice the new addition to his appearance so quickly. I mean, it wasn't as noticeable as the one Taehyung had made. He hadn't even been able to mention his new helix piercing—the one he had gotten less than a week ago—during their late-night conversations.
Snapping out of his thoughts, he settled next to Bam, petting his head to calm his energy burst. "I think someone really missed having you around."
"Just Bam? No one else?" he teased with a laugh as he got up from the floor, expecting Jungkook to follow him.
"I missed you too, Tae," Jungkook admitted, his gaze filled with genuine affection. The weight of unspoken feelings lingered between them, but for now, they were simply enjoying each other's company, surrounded by the blossoming signs of spring and the comfort of a familiar friendship.
He didn't know when they had fallen asleep. They had spent the afternoon playing with Bam before heading to his room, where they had decided to watch a movie together to catch up on all the missed Marvel Fridays.
Blinking several times as his eyes adjusted to the colorful lights in the room, he soon felt a chill down his spine. He had always had the habit of hugging his pillow while sleeping, doing the same with Hoseok when he slept over, but this time was different.
Careful not to wake the other, he began to remove his arm from around the blond's waist. Taehyung was still asleep, which was a good sign as Jungkook's next step was to lift his head from the elder's chest.
"Your hugs are nice," he heard in a husky voice. Taehyung had woken up upon feeling the absence of the other's warmth.
Jungkook felt his cheeks flush when Taehyung's hand caressed his back, wanting to keep him close. "Sorry, hyung, I have a habit of hugging pillows while I sleep. I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable," he mentioned almost in a whisper.
Taehyung simply nodded, seeking out the younger one's arm to wrap it around his waist once again. "It's adorable. Was I a good pillow during our nap?" he teased.
He nodded in response to the new question, glancing at the digital wall clock a few meters away. "Damn, it's very late," he said, getting up from the bed hastily. "Hyung, it's so late, please stay the night here, it's dangerous out."
Taehyung smiled. "Okay, I'll stay," he said after checking the clock, which showed almost three in the morning. Both knew it wasn't really dangerous to go out at that hour, at least not on the route the elder had to take to get back to his dorm, but Jungkook didn't want to take any risks.
Jungkook lay back down next to Taehyung, keeping a bit of distance between their bodies. "I can lend you some clothes to make you more comfortable so you, uh, don't not have to sleep like that," he mentioned, remembering that the elder wasn't dressed appropriately for rest.
"That would be nice," Taehyung said, stretching a bit.
Without further ado, Jungkook got up again, heading to his closet where he pulled out a t-shirt, some sweatpants, and a pair of shorts, wanting to offer options to choose from. "The bathroom is on the left, you can change there, and there's a new toothbrush under the sink," he said, suddenly feeling shy.
Taehyung watched the younger one with tenderness for a couple of seconds before heading to the bathroom. Meanwhile, Jungkook did some deep breathing exercises. God, he was about to sleep next to his crush.
He tidied his bed and turned off the unnecessary lights in his room while waiting for the elder to come out of the bathroom so he could do his skincare routine, albeit in a shorter version, as he didn't want to waste another second without the elder.
He smiled at how nice Taehyung looked in his clothes, opting for the shorts, which showed off his muscular legs. Jungkook locked himself in the bathroom to wash his face, taking a few extra seconds to look at himself in the mirror and give himself a motivational pep talk in his mind.
"I'll sleep here with one condition," the first thing he heard upon leaving the bathroom was Taehyung's voice, seeing the blond already under his covers. "I want to be your pillow again."
Jungkook nodded with a smile as he made his way to the bed. He wasn't sure if he was hallucinating or dreaming, but he would make the most of it.
★
Jungkook felt lonely under his covers as he opened his eyes, interrupting his sweet dreams. Soon, his heart sank as he realized the elder wasn't beside him. It had been too good to be real.
With laziness, he got out of bed, intending to go to the kitchen for some food and return to bed at least until noon. However, the mixture of laughter in the kitchen made him tense up.
"Good morning, cutie," Taehyung said as he poured hot coffee into mugs. His gaze quickly shifted to Jungkook's mother, who skillfully flipped pancakes. "Good morning, Jungkookie. You didn't mention you had such a handsome and kind new friend."
And with that, he blushed. It was a utopian scene, and he could swear he was still dreaming. Soon his mother finished her coffee and left the kitchen, mentioning she had to finish getting ready for work.
"I thought you had left," Jungkook said softly as he helped Taehyung carry breakfast to the table.
Taehyung shook his head. "No, I wanted to make you breakfast and ran into your mom; she's very sweet," he said calmly as they both sat down to eat.
Jungkook nodded, still surprised by the morning's events when a light bulb went off in his head. "After we finish breakfast, I have something to show you."
The blond raised an eyebrow, nodding without understanding what he meant. That didn't deter him from asking questions about it, trying to persuade him with a pout, to which the younger simply replied it was a surprise.
"Okay, close your eyes," he said when they returned to the room. Taehyung was sitting in the middle of the bed with his legs crossed, dying of curiosity about what the younger would show him.
Seconds later, he felt a box in his hands, and upon opening his eyes, he realized it was wrapped in gift paper. His gaze went to Jungkook, who was now standing in front of him, looking at him with a smile. "Merry Christmas and belated happy birthday."
Taehyung caressed the box, with a genuine smile on his face. "That's not fair; I wanted to give you something for Christmas too," he said with a slight complaint as he tore into the gift wrap.
"Hush, open it; you have no idea how hard it was to keep this secret for almost a month."
The blond laughed, opting to tear off all the wrapping and leaving his mouth slightly open when he revealed his gift. "Are you joking?" he asked, unsure of what answer he wanted to that question.
With trembling fingers, he opened the box, pulling out his new camera. "You're crazy," he declared as he turned it on, eager to experience each of its functions.
Meanwhile, Jungkook struggled to engrave every reaction of the elder in his mind. All the effort had been worth it. All the nights researching cameras, all the stores visited, and every day he kept the secret had made this a magnificent experience.
Taehyung pointed the camera at the boy in front of him, taking a photo he would cherish forever. After this, he returned the camera to a safe place before grabbing Jungkook in a tight hug.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you, it's the best gift I've ever received in my life," he said honestly, not wanting to break the distance between them. "I can't believe you always say you're bad at giving gifts, nothing can top this."
"That's not true, I just know you well enough and knew what to give you," he said, captivated in the elder's embrace.
"And I'm so glad it's you who knows me so well."
★
With the start of the semester, their routine had resumed. Jimin used to tease them, saying they seemed like siamese twins because they couldn't spend a minute apart.
It was true, to a certain extent, but they couldn't help it when they shared every class and spent every afternoon studying and having fun together, always seeking out new activities to share.
Taehyung's hand reached out to capture Jungkook's, intertwining their fingers as they watched the sunset before them, enjoying their impromptu picnic. Jungkook's heart skipped a beat at the touch.
"Jungkookie, I'm glad to have you in my life," Taehyung confessed, stroking the back of Jungkook's hand with his thumb. "You make me really happy."
Taehyung wasn't even sure why he had said that. Obviously, he wasn't lying—within just a few months, Jungkook had become someone very special to him. He loved sharing his life with someone so smart and adorable. He was getting tired of ignoring his feelings.
Jungkook swallowed, nodding slightly. "It's mutual, hyung. I enjoy every moment with you."
Taehyung smiled, letting out a soft laugh. "Is it really mutual?" he asked softly, more to himself.
Jungkook tilted his head, furrowing his brow. "What do you mean?"
"Never mind," Taehyung said, releasing Jungkook's hand.
"No, I want to know," Jungkook insisted.
"I like you, okay? I've tried for a long time to hide how much I'm attracted to you," Taehyung burst out, closing his eyes and gently falling back onto the grass. "You don't have to respond. Forget I ever said anything. I don't want to ruin our friendship."
Jungkook didn't know when courage had invaded his body, but after hearing Taehyung's confession, he couldn't help but capture Taehyung's lips in a soft, sweet kiss that lasted only a few seconds.
"I told you it was mutual," he said, caressing Taehyung's cheek as he broke the kiss, returning to his seat, picking up one of the strawberries in front of him and eating it as if nothing had happened.
Taehyung lay there, eyes wide open. "Wait, really?"
Jungkook simply nodded, feeling all the embarrassment his body had suppressed moments earlier.
"I like you much more than you could imagine."
And that was all Taehyung needed to bridge the gap between them, savoring the strawberry taste from Jungkook's lips, daring to caress his waist. Jungkook simply went along, continuing the kiss for a few more seconds before pulling back slightly, grateful for the warm glow of the sunset over both of them and the beginning of their story together.
★
"Oh my god," Jimin interrupted, closing his eyes as he entered their dorm and saw Taehyung and Jungkook kissing on one of the sofas.
"Okay, new rule, you guys have to text me when you're going to be all lovey-dovey so I don't walk in on this," he remarked as he walked to his closet, retrieving one of his favorite jackets.
The youngest member of the group was blushing from head to toe. It had only been a week since they confessed their feelings and decided to take things slow, not mentioning anything yet to their friends and avoiding getting caught when they shared any physical contact.
They couldn't be considered boyfriends yet; they wanted to take it easy, have a few dates, and see if it was really what they both wanted, although deep down, they both knew it was.
It was strange for both of them. Taehyung had never had a serious relationship (unless you consider the boyfriend he had during primary school), his style was flirting with someone for a few days, kissing, having sex, and then losing touch for months. That didn't mean he wanted to play with people or anything; it was just that after not clicking with any of those people, he preferred to talk it out and distance himself before hurting someone.
Meanwhile, Jungkook had only had two formal relationships, neither of which had ended well and always ended up making him feel guilty about the breakup, so he had preferred to stay away from the romantic world for over two years. Deep down, he was a hopeless romantic, hoping every day that his dream person would come along.
Both were afraid of what the future held for them, but they were committed to making it work.
"I was thinking of dyeing my hair back to brown, but maybe not as dark as last time," Taehyung mentioned as soon as Jimin left the dorm.
"Everything looks good on you," Jungkook nodded, running his fingers through the older one's hair, as he had wished to do for weeks, confirming that his hair was very soft. "What about if I dye my hair?"
"But I love your natural brown hair, it makes you look adorable, even when you're a brat sometimes," Taehyung said.
Jungkook frowned, "Thank you very much, I’m always adorable," he said, making the older one laugh.
"What color would you like? I have some dyes," Taehyung mentioned, getting up from the sofa and walking to one of the cabinets in his side of the room. Jungkook watched him, unsure for a few seconds, "Black," he said, sounding more like a question than an assertion.
"Uh-uh, you need to be sure, especially with black; it's very hard to remove," Taehyung said, still retrieving materials.
"I want black hair, hyung," he said, now more confidently.
"Good boy"
Jungkook felt a flutter in his stomach, he loved being praised. Taehyung returned to his side, stealing a kiss before explaining the process of dyeing his hair.
"Black hair looks good on you," Hoseok remarked, marveling as he ran his hand through Jungkook's hair after hearing his best friend's story. Jungkook joyfully recounted how he made that decision and how Taehyung had helped him completely to achieve such a good result.
Obviously, Jungkook avoided mentioning some details, like how he had been sitting in Taehyung's lap while he applied the dye or that they had showered together when the waiting time was over. But those were details he preferred to keep to himself.
Jungkook nodded, "Taehyung is really good at this. I trusted him because his hair still looks healthy even when he dyes it every work hour," he said with a laugh, taking a sip of water.
"Hmph, are you two dating now?" the older one asked, making sure Jungkook had swallowed the water so he wouldn't spit it out.
"N-no, I mean, uh, not officially. We've been having dates and stuff like that," Jungkook mentioned, feeling nervous. He knew his best friend wouldn't judge him for how he was handling his relationship with Taehyung, but he had been very reserved about it since he was sure of his feelings. "Why do you ask?"
Hoseok laughed, "You're very transparent with your emotions. Your eyes light up when you talk about Taehyung."
Jungkook smiled, he was clearly very much in love, but he didn't blame himself. How could he not be?
★
"I don't want to study," Jungkook said with a slight pout on his lips as he settled into Taehyung's lap, who immediately placed his hand on the younger one's forehead, making sure he wasn't feverish.
Today marked one month since Taehyung officially asked him to be his boyfriend; now everyone knew about their relationship and envied them, saying they were like a magnet destined to be with their other half.
Nevertheless, they hadn't abandoned their rigorous study schedule, so when Jungkook suggested something else, Taehyung couldn't help but worry.
"And why is that?" Taehyung asked, ensuring Jungkook was okay, so he decided to slip his hands under the black-haired boy's shirt, caressing his waist.
"I want to be with you," he replied in a whisper. He wasn't sure if he was touch-deprived, but he had the need to melt into the other.
Taehyung smiled at that, tightening his hold on Jungkook's waist, teasing him a bit, "Oh, my pretty boy wants to set aside his tasks just to be in my arms?"
Jungkook nodded, hiding his face in the space between the older one's shoulder and neck, murmuring something that Taehyung couldn't hear.
"You'll have to repeat that," mentioned the elder, wrapping his arms around the younger one's waist, drawing him closer to his body.
They were alone at Jungkook's house, where for days he had been considering ways to get even more physical with Taehyung, without wanting to seem desperate. They didn't even have had sex yet, both of them wanted to wait till Jungkook was ready, but he was just too shy to give the first step.
"Maybe I want more than just being in your arms and receiving kisses," he said still in a whisper, this time making sure the elder could hear him.
Taehyung took the younger one's chin in his fingers, making him look before stealing a kiss. "You just have to ask."
"Please," Jungkook said, already aroused.
In a quick movement Taehyung placed Jungkook on the bed, settling on him to kiss him in need.
Jungkook couldn't keep quiet.
He enjoyed the contact of the elder so much as his big hands run through his waist. And Taehyung enjoyed it too, loving every little sound that escaped the younger's lips.
Taehyung's lips ran down Jungkook's neck, leaving small wet kisses and soft bites that reached his collarbone, causing the black-haired one to raise his hips, creating a friction between their bodies.
One of Taehyung's hands approached the edge of his pants, beginning to undress on the contrary before removing his own clothes until they were both naked.
Jungkook surrounded Taehyung's neck, attracting him to be able to kiss him. "There are condoms in my nightstand," he mentioned when separating, looking for them quickly and passing it to the elder.
Taehyung felt his cock throbbing just by seeing Jungkook, slight sweat making his body shine, his cheeks blushing and his lips half-open ready to be bitten. With agility he put on the condom, stimulating himself while his free hand captured one of the nipples of his boy, making him moan.
"You look so pretty" he mentioned approaching to pay attention with his mouth to the remaining nipple, taking advantage of the closeness to suck and bite it "Pretty and completely mine."
Jungkook's breathing was accelerated, he felt as he was about to cum just by being praised. "Tae, please..." he begged as he took the elder's hand, directing two of his fingers to his mouth to be able to suck them as if it were his cock, moistening them enough before the opposite with a smile removed his hand.
"Bit desperate, aren't we?" He mentioned, taking his now lubricated fingers to his tight hole, starting to opening him with these while capturing his lips in a kiss, introducing his tongue for a small fight.
A moan escaped his throat when Taehyung's fingers were replaced by his member, making him tremble as he got used to the length.
The first thrusts were soft, Taehyung wanted the opponent to adapt before accelerating his movements.
"Please, Tae" Jungkook said, reaching for his arm as few moans interrupted his words.
And how could he refuse? His thrust became harder and fester, feeling in ecstasy when surrounded by the sweet sounds he provoked in the younger.
Jungkook couldn't even form a coherent thought while being fucked so good, his hands clung to the sheets under his body, slightly moving one of them to grab his own dick, stroking it for a few seconds before feeling a hard slap on his hand.
"No touching what is mine," Taehyung said with lust, taking his hands and placing them above his head before continuing to thrust him, making him cum on the spot few seconds later.
Taehyung smiled when he saw the disaster that the younger had caused, dirtying his abdomen and part of the bed. Such a view was enough to make him cum.
It took a few seconds to throw away the condom and lie down next to Jungkook, handing out kisses and praises.
"I want to sleep," said the black-haired one, spreading in his voice how tired he was.
Taehyung nodded, still caressing his back. "We will sleep, but first we must take a shower," he said in a whisper, noticing how the younger struggled to stay awake.
"Oh my god, I love you," he continued, thinking the younger one had fallen asleep, until he fully opened his eyes, sitting up to face Taehyung.
"Y-you, what?" said the dark-haired one, unsure if what he had heard was part of the dream he was beginning to have or if Taehyung had really said that.
The elder sat in front of Jungkook, gently taking his face. "I love you, Jungkook," he said before kissing his forehead. "Come on, let's shower," he mentioned before getting up and heading towards the bathroom.
"I love you too," he said loudly before running after Taehyung, hoping to convince him of a round two while in the shower.
