Things were over. Although he wasn't sure Dr. Eggman would give up so easily... he sighed. He was in the garage of Chris's house. "This is my end." He thought. Everyone already knew Sonic and his friends, even when the blue hedgehog's intentions were not very clear, he knew that he would save people. He would have to say goodbye to his job as a teacher... and also as a secret agent.
"Mr. Stewart?" Chris's uncle's voice brought him out of his reverie.
"Yes?" He was in front of him, smiling. "Sorry, I wasn't paying attention..."
"Are you okay? Was that too fast? Do you want something to drink?"
Too many questions... "I-I'm fine... Do you mean the race? It was good... No, all right. Thank you..." Sam smiled.
"You answers are fast! And you have good memory too!" He laughed. "...I really like that."
"Eh... Thanks?"
"I really mean it, Chris has a fantastic teacher. He's lucky to get to see you every day..." Damn. The guy not only talked a lot, he was praising him a lot. He didn't know what to say, he thought he would be a more narcissist person... and he wasn't used to being praised like that. Being a spy was hard, nobody couldn't know anything about you, not even your real name...
"You think so? You know, when I was a child I used to be surrender with a lot of people and I used to get overwhelmed seeing them everyday..." He stopped talking. That was true. He was raised in an orphanate...
"Yes." He came closer. "I think you are something marvelous, something... bright. I'm glad you are a teacher, even when you could be anything with that pretty face of yours. Maybe you can be an actor just like my sister! If you wanted to."
"..." Pretty face? "Ah... Thank you? I suppose..."
"You welcome!" He winked at him. He could feel heat coming to his face. Oh no.
"I... I already feel overwhelmed by your words... I'm glad we talked more this time..." He had to cut the conversation. He was spending too much time with him... He was only observing Chris, this wasn't part of his job... or his old job...
blip blip blip
"Someone is calling you."
"Ah?" He took his mobile phone. "Sorry, excuse me." He turned his back. "Here teacher, what happens?"
"Congratulations agent, you aren't losing your job. We are sure Eggman is still alive so keep putting an eye on the kid, okay?" That was all. He wouldn't lose his job. Thanks god.
"Something good happened?" Asked Sam behind him.
"Kind of... I'm just relieved..."
"I can tell. You look wonderful when you look relaxed and happy."
"..." Damn it, he couldn't deny it anymore. He felt so embarrased. What was wrong with him? He had quick and good responses and compliments... he felt very happy and felt his face red. "Thank you... I've never been praised so much..."
"Really? People are so stupid sometimes... myself include huahuahauha, anyways, I truly think you are good... you are so..."
"Sam!"
"Ah, sister" It was Chris's mom.
"Hi, Mr. Stewart."
"Hello Mrs. Thorndyke..."
"Sam, I think the patrol was calling you! Please, be careful."
"What? Really? Well, duty calls me! Let's hang out sometime! Goodbye, Stewart. Lindsey." He kissed his sister's cheek and ran to his car. In a second, the exhaust pipe was heard and the car left, leaving only a little dust in the air, before disappearing.
"Ah... he never learns." She let out the breath she was holding through her mouth, then looked at him. "I'm sorry if my brother was too fast..."
"What? No, no, no. It was fine."
"Eh? It was fine? Really?" Wait, what was she talking about? Why did she look so expectant?
"Ah... Well..."
"You would be very welcome in our family, Mr. Stewart!"
"What?" He felt himself blush. Was she talking about he and Sam??? "Mrs. Thorndyke I think you're going too fast... We were just talking..."
"Sam always talks a lot and his interest are always a few: speed and safety. With Sonic that hasn't changed, but I just saw how he talked to you! And I'm very sure he really likes you." She smiled. "Sorry, if I'm putting you in an uncomfortable situation, it just makes me happy to finally see my brother have another... someone who interests him, except for our family..."
"... As I said, I'm fine. I get it."
"... Seriously?" She couldn't believe it.
"Well... I'm honoured." He didn't know what to say. "...No one has ever told me these kinds of things... because of my job, the interaction I have with others is not very close..." He should NOT remain silent, if he did, it would be really awkward and he shouldn't do it... NO. "And... well, it hasn't been uncomfortable..., Sam's nice. I guess... we could meet again..." Chris's mother giggled.
"You have my full support, Mr. Stewart."
"T-Thank you..." By a miracle, they were interrupted and he was able to go to the house they assigned him, close to the school... but his concentration didn't return for a few days.
