Chapter 9: Epilogue: Tommy

Notes:

Hi! So here's a tiny little epilogue. I was going to do a whole long chapter but this just felt right. I hope you guys like it and thanks so much for the kudos and comments. I will be back soon with more from these guys. :-)

Chapter Text

Evan is dancing with Jee-Yun on his hip and Tommy is sure there must be a besotted smile on his face when Maddie, beautiful in her wedding dress, comes to sit next to him.

“Hi,” she says brightly. “Sorry I haven’t been able to get over here until now.”

He smiles. “No need to apologize. You look beautiful by the way.”

“Thank you.” She’s glowing is what Tommy thinks and he follows her gaze to where Howie is dancing with Hen, then her gaze leads back to where Tommy’s was, Evan having shifted Jee-Yun so she’s balanced on his chest. She’s giggling madly as he bounces her around. “You really like my brother, huh?”

“I really, really do,” Tommy confirms. He knows it’s only been a month, but he can’t believe how entrenched they’ve already become in each other’s lives. There isn’t a day when they’re not in contact with each other somehow. They’d even had an important talk about their relationship last night and how they were going to handle Evan’s family today. He’s looking forward to it.

“I’m so glad. You’ve been so good for him.”

“He’s been good for me too.” He really has, in ways that Tommy can’t begin to count. It’s partly the way that Buck held him through an unexpected nightmare a few days ago or brings him lunch at work and puts up with the ribbing from Lucy just so he can squeeze in time together...it’s been amazing having someone like this, to not be alone. Someone who understands the job he does and doesn’t begrudge him his love for it.

Maddie smiles at him and squeezes his hand just as Evan is coming over, still carrying Jee-Yun. He sets her down in front of her mother. “I think someone is getting sleepy.”

“No m’not,” Jee-Yun protests with a yawn. Maddie laughs and picks her up to settle her on her lap.

Evan bends down and kisses Tommy gently before taking a seat next to him and throwing an arm over Tommy’s shoulders. Tommy reaches up to intertwine their fingers. He sees Maddie smile at them but before she can say anything, an unfamiliar voice comes from behind them.

“Evan, wouldn’t you like to introduce us to your friend?”

Evan gives him a look that blatantly says ‘here we go,’ as they both stand and turn around to face his parents.

They look like pleasant enough people. But Evan has told him enough about them that Tommy is predisposed to dislike them on principle.

“Hi, mom, dad,” Evan says, grabbing Tommy’s hand. “Sure, I’ll introduce you. This is my boyfriend, Tommy.”

Tommy hears Maddie emit an excited little squeal and he delights in the feeling of excitement blooming in his chest. As Evan’s parents look at them with confused expressions, Tommy kisses the side of Evan’s head, right where his birthmark is.

He can’t wait to drag his boyfriend off for that dance.
