Lance couldn’t believe it as he stared at the positive pregnancy test. Seb hadn’t mentioned wanting kids and he wasn’t sure if he wanted kids. If he did, then he would want to have kids after he had retired from racing. Now wasn’t the best time but he didn’t have many options. Clearly he and Seb hadn’t used protection so they only had themselves to blame. The Canadian was dreading telling Seb incase the German dumped him but he was even more nervous about telling his dad. He knew that his dad would freak because he was still racing and if he was pregnant then he would need to take time out. There was no guarantee that he could jump back into an Aston Martin after he had given birth. His replacement could be really good and replace him full time. Lance couldn’t see into the future but a million thoughts filtered through his mind. He broke down as it all became too much for him.
Seb had been out cycling when Lance had taken the test so when Lance returned to the living room and spotted Seb jumping off his bike, he felt sick. He would have to tell him, he couldn’t hide this. He had somehow managed to hide his morning sickness for a while but only because Seb was such a deep sleeper. Once Seb was back in the house, Lance would tell him.
Lance had worked himself up that when Seb stepped into the house, Lance nearly had a panic attack. The German had to try and calm Lance down but he didn’t know whether to touch him or not. He had never seen him in a state like this before. Eventually, Lance ended up blurting it out as he managed to regain control of his breathing.
“I’m pregnant, Seb.”
Lance broke down again but only because Seb had pulled him into his arms for a hug. He hadn’t pushed him away. Lance clutched at Seb and refused to let go. He felt a hand through his hair.
“I’m not going anywhere.” Promised Seb.
The Canadian allowed himself to relax and when he was encouraged by Seb to show him the pregnancy test, he couldn’t help but smile because Seb looked so happy.
Lance didn’t tell the team initially and he knew that Seb was concerned. The German knew that Lance couldn’t hide his pregnancy forever but he didn’t want to force his boyfriend to talk to his team.
“We’ll do this your way but you can’t hide it forever, Lance.” Said Seb.
Lance did tell his mum over the phone that he was pregnant but he immediately fell silent when she asked if he had told his dad. She sighed over the phone.
“You’ll have to tell him at some point.”
The Canadian knew that his mum was right but he wasn’t quite ready for his dad’s reaction.
He did manage to tell the team in the end but he didn’t tell them that he was pregnant. He got a doctor’s line and told them that he couldn’t race for the foreseeable future. The team chose not to question Lance as it was clear that he didn’t really want to talk about it. An announcement came out near the end of the summer break a few weeks later. Lance had tried to time it so that the announcement would come out near the start of a double header because then it meant his dad would be away for the race weekends. Once Monza had passed, Lance went to Germany for a bit with Seb because he knew that his dad would come and visit him. He had already been ignoring his calls and text messages. Seb knew what he was doing but chose not to comment on it because he couldn’t tell Lance what to do. Lance clearly didn’t want to tell his dad just yet.
Lance did make the mistake of telling Esteban about his pregnancy but only because the Frenchman was a good friend. Esteban had messaged Lance once the announcement had come out but Lance had refused to reply. A few messages came after the race weekend in Monza so Lance decided to tell his friend the big secret.
“Oh my god, I can’t believe you’re pregnant!” Shouted Esteban.
The Canadian cringed over the phone but he smiled at his friend’s excitement.
Lance was starting to get used to his morning sickness as his pregnancy continued and he was glad that he had Seb supporting him when he was feeling crappy. Everything was going well and Lance was doing a good job of ignoring his dad until Singapore when Esteban made the mistake of speaking to Lawrence in the paddock. Lance hadn’t been in the paddock since before the summer break. Esteban had no idea that Lawrence didn’t know about Lance’s pregnancy. The Frenchman approached the older man with a smile.
“I hear congratulations are in order.” Said Esteban.
Lawrence frowned.
“What are you talking about?” He asked.
It was Esteban’s turn to frown.
“I’m congratulating you on your first grandchild. I know that the team didn’t announce the pregnancy but Lance told me a few weeks ago, it’s so exciting. He and Seb are going to be great parents.”
Lawrence stared at Esteban and ended up narrowing his eyes at him.
“I hope you are joking.”
Esteban now underwood that Lawrnece really had no idea.
“I thought you knew.” Said Esteban, quietly.
“Lance is pregnant?”
“Yes.”
“Excuse me.”
Esteban knew that he should call Lance and warn him but he didn’t get a chance as Lawrence was already pulling out his phone as he headed into the motorhome. It didn’t surprise Lawrence when his son didn’t pick up but he was angry. His son was hiding from him and he had a secret which he had been told by Lance’s friend rather than his own son.
Lance didn’t answer the phone so Lawrence decided to leave an angry voice mail.
“Why have I just found out from Esteban that you’re pregnant? Why couldn’t you tell me? Is this why you’ve been hiding from me? I told you that this would be a mistake and you’ll be lucky if you ever get to drive again! So help me when I next see you because I don’t know what will happen! You have no idea how angry I am! Call me right now!”
Lance did listen to the voice message and he broke down in tears because his dad was so angry. Seb wrapped his arms around him and tried to comfort him but Lance couldn’t stop crying. He knew that he would have to face his dad eventually, he had only made things worse by hiding.
