Meet my family

Summary:

"They were what made Shinomiya judging from what Ida had said. Adachis care, Aokis sillyness and Kurosawas perfection all added to who Shinomiya was."

Shinomiya brings Fukuhara over to meet his family.

Work Text:

Kurosawa hummed wistfully as he set the table. His sons were coming over for dinner tonight and he was determined to make it magical. His sons, since Aoki had several after school activities and Shinomiya went off to university, were rarely home at the same time. And when they were they never stayed for dinner. Kurosawa could tell that this saddened Adachi, though his husband obviously wouldn't admit it for fear of sounding like an overbearing father, he missed having his sons around constantly. hearing them discuss comic book characters so intensely that it'd turn into an argument which would only be resolved by the very happy to be included Adachi and though he complained about it Kurosawas heart jolted whenever his sons would ask for his input aswell. Not just with thier small arguments but also about personal matters.

Kurosawa looked up as he remembered when Shinomiya had first started dating his classmate, Fukuhara. "He's using me for my good luck." He had said over the phone to his father's. "Of course it's my fault that we are dating. He didn't exactly ask me out but I really liked him and so..." He trailed off. Adachi was quick to reprimand him. "You shouldn't have done that, Naoya. You will confuse him."
"You're saying that like he isn't using him for his good luck." Aoki, who wasn't invited to the phone call, stated. "Oi, Sota, go away I'm not talking to you! Focus on the boy you're tricking!" Shinomiya snapped at his younger brother.

"Ehhhh? I'm not tricking anybody. It was a misunderstanding! Whatever! Ugh!." Aoki huffed before pulling his backpack over his shoulder and stomping upstairs. Kurosawa shook his head and chuckled, turning his attention to his husband who had started reprimanding Shinomiya again. "Dad what do you think?" Shinomiya asked referring to Kurosawa and completely ignoring Adachi. Adachis eyes widened. "Pfft. fine! don't listen to me!" Was all he said before he stomped off. Kurosawa thought for a minute before answering. "Do what I did. Shamelessly follow your heart."

"Ne Yuichi, do you think mometerro is allergic to anything?" Adachi asked, snapping Kurosawa out of his thoughts. Kurosawa chuckled. "He's a dog, Kiyoshi." Adachi pouted. "Dogs have allergies." At least he thought they did. He's sure he read somewhere that a German Shepherd had died from excess mushroom consumption. He told his husband this. "Maybe because he had eaten too many mushrooms or they were poisonous. Dogs can't eat chocolate but that's as much as I know about dog allergies." Kurosawa said as he finished setting up the table. "Anyway it is dog food you're giving him not mushrooms or chocolate so it doesn't matter."
"It does because it will look bad if Mometerro dies on the night Naoya brings his boyfriend over." Adachi stated, arms folded tightly across his chest, covering the 'cook' on his world's best cook apron that was actually Kurosawas. His hair was matted to his sweaty forehead and the sweater he wore under Kurosawas aporn was littered with souce stains, though surprisingly the aporn was not. Kurosawa wondered how he had managed that.

He made his way over to his husband, wrapping his arms around adachis folded ones and cooed softly
"No one will die tonight. Not even the dog." Under his arms Kurosawa felt Adachi shifting, trying to free his arms. "Yes but his luck...not that I'm complaining! Of course not. We know I have the worst luck- I could read minds and still know nothing about humans but I know he'll be very nervous tonight and mometterro dying won't help." Kurosawa laughed. "In the end it was your idea to have sota tell Ida-kun to bring his dog. If he does die it will be in you, not Fukuhara-kun."
"Yuichi!" Adachi gasped, finally breaking free from his husbands hold. "I- don't talk to me anymore. I'm going to change before the boys arrive. When Sota arrives tell him to go shower. How he gets so messy during school I'll never know!"

As if summoned, the door opened and through it a very disheveled Aoki along with his boyfriend Ida and mometterro emerged. Aoki was still in his school uniform or what was left of it but Ida was dressed neatly in a black button down shirt, black trouser pants and... polished church shoes? Mometterro for the better part looked normal even with the piece of Aokis shirt hanging from his teeth. Kurosawa who was still mid laugh from earlier began laughing hysterically at the sight. "Sota what happened?" Adachi asked concerned, ignoring Kurosawas laughter. Ida sent Aoki a gulity look, shuffling his weight from one foot to the other. He contemplated wether he should explain because Aoki has already been through enough but before he could Aoki began, "We went home so that Ida could change and fetch mometterro right? and well-"
"Why is Ida-kun dressed like he's going to a funeral?" A voice asked from behind the two highschoolers.

All four men turned around, spooked, Aoki jumping behind Ida for protection. "Hello family!" Shinomiya beamed. Next to him Fukuhara stood shyly scanning the environment. He had rehearsed his initial greeting a hundred Times on his way here from the train station and a hundred times on his way to the train station from thier apartment even solidifying that he'd greet as soon as Shinomiya greeted his family first. So when he entered thier family home and heard Shinomiyas greeting he, against his better convections, said, "Hello my name is Fukuhara Kouta. I promise to care for Naoya earnestly. Please take care of me!"

The silence was deafening.

All the men stood completely still, staring at Fukuhara. Even mometterro seemed to sense that Fukuhara was a focal point, turning his nose to face him. Oh what he wouldn't do to have the floor open up and swallow him whole right now. With his luck that could actually happen. Other things that could happen was that the roof could collapse, the train could have derailed leaving them stranded and late, or he could have woken up with violent diarrhoea which would have meant cancelling dinner. He could have even been abducted again while he was away from Shinomiya buying his parents their gift.

The gift! The gift could have been stolen by the homeless man outside the antique store where he bought it. The homeless man could have also abducted him. Yes he thought as he went through all the bad things that could have happened. A trick that Shinomiya had taught him weeks ago. Thinking about what could have happened to make what did happen seem smaller. And Fukuhara had to admit, embarrassing himself on his first impression was nothing compared to the embarresment being abducted twice.

Kurosawa and Shinomiya were the first to break the silence. making eye contact with each other, they both couldn't resist the laughter that was building up inside of them. "Naoya! Yuichi! Is this the time to laugh?" Adachi scolded, though he had a smile on his face. Shinomiyas embarrassment was evident and it was hard not to laugh at it. "He's cute!" Aokis sequeled from behind Ida. "Did you hear his introduction? 'hello my name is Fukuhara Kouta. I promise to care for my idiot boyfriend. Please take care of me.' cute!" He mimicked nudging Ida, who for some reason seemed just as embaressed as Fukuhara. "Oi Sota! Don't make fun of my boyfriend. And he didn't say that."
"I'm not making fun of him! He's cute. Besides you and dad were laughing at him first!."
"Right!" Adachi chimed in, glaring at Kurosawa. "How dare you laugh at the boy! His greeting was lovely." Adachi turned to look at Fukuhara. "Your greeting was lovely, Fukuhara-kun." Fukuhara, still embaressed, bowed sharply. And yelled, "Arigato!" Earning him another bount of laughter from Kurosawa and Shinomiya who had tears forming in his eyes.

"You two are being too cruel!" Adachi defeatedly scolded, knowing his reprimand was falling on deaf ears. "Fukuhara-kun stand up, please. Ida-kun help!" He pleaded looking over at Ida. Aoki gaped, stepping infront of Ida protectively. " Ehhh? How must he help? No. Why must he help? He went through the same thing when he first came." At this Fukuharas eyes widened. "He did?" Ida nodded, placing his hand on his neck.

"Aoki had told me about how scary his father's are and how strict they are about things. It kind of messed me up so everything went wrong. I was dressed like this then too." He admitted, frowning at his outfit. Fukuhara stood confused. Shinomiya had told him the same thing about his fathers. Emphasising on how perfect everything about him had to be because his otosan read minds and hated imperfect people and his father who was perfect in every way also hated imperfect people. "Naoya?" Fukuhara asked looking over at his boyfriend confused.

Shinomiya, who was finally calming down from his laughing fit with his father, sobered up when he saw the look on Fukuharas face. He wiped a stray year from his cheek and looked at his father for help but Kurosawa was still giggling like a little school girl. You're no help. Shinomiya decided. "Aoki started it you see. The bet-"
"I did not! Otosan, Naoya is shifting the blame!."
"I'm not fully to blame. You did it to Ida aswell." hand on his heart, Aoki made an offended noise. "You did." Ida agreed, placing his hand on Aokis shoulder briefly before removing it out of embarresment. "You are both to blame," Adachi added, "You too Yuichi. Oh will you stop laughing already!"

Begrudgingly Kurosawa stopped his giggling but remained firm in his glee as he addressed Fukuhara. "The boys and I are traditionalists you see," he said through a smile. "Honestly Naoya started it by getting Sota to tell Ida-kun that we were monsterously strict but Adachi too flowndered his first impression with my parents because he was convinced he had to be perfect. It was funny actually He was so nervous and cute. He-"
"Dad you're getting distracted reminiscing about your husband again!" Aoki complained. Shinomiya rolled his eyes in agreement, fake gagging when he noticed Adachis red ears.

Fukuhara looked to Ida who seemed to be thinking the same thing as him. That their family loved interupting each other. With pleading eyes Fukuhara smiled at Ida who took sympathy over the newcomer. "If I may continue..." He began. Hands gripping the fabric of his pants. He wasn't used to speaking this outwardly yet, especially around Aokis father's. "They reckon that if they can psych you out during your first meeting you'll eventually feel more comfortable around them. Essentially demolishing the ice the first time around so that everything is smoothe sailing. Though they might not admit it Aoki and Naoya-kun are very similar to Kurosawa-san in the sense that they are always plotting for peoples best interests. Adachi-san is less methodical in his approach." Ida sent Adachi a soft smile.

"Adachi-san will make you feel welcome first. Then Aoki because he cannot help himself when it comes to making new friends. Kurosawa-san and Naoya-kun are a tag team but since you're dating Naoya-kun I suppose Kurosawa-san will be the last person you bond with. He seems intimidating but he's actually very kind." Like Naoya. Fukuhara thought, taking in everything the timid boy infront of him was saying. "All in all I'm sure by the end of tonight you will be well acquainted with everyone." Ida continued, a little surprised to still be talking.

"Adachi-san will ask you to help him in the kitchen where he will apologize profusely for his sons and husband and make you promise to tell him if they do anything to make you uncomfortable. Aoki, who is a little too excited to have some sort of power over his brother, will try to grill you but give up after two questions and offer to play video games with you. He'll also praise his brother a little so that you know he really looks up to him even though he won't say it. Kurosawa-san will offer you a beer. You won't accept it because you're too nervous and he'll be upset because it's not a beer it's actually cold medicine and he was hoping to prank you. Then he'll tell you to loosen and say 'if my son does something stupid be patient with him because he is just stupid.'

by the end of the night you'll feel you've gotten to understand everyone better and your heart will finally find it's normal safe rythum just as you're about to leave. They'll all stand by the door and wave you off but not before making several more dinner, lunch and breakfast plans with you. You'll have made a new home with the family. With my family."

Another beat of silence though this time the air was not humorous but sentimental.
"Ida!" Aoki cried, wrapping his arms around his boyfriends neck. Shocked by the sudden embrace Ida tentivley place his hands on Aokis upper back. "Ida-kun you notice that much?" Adachi asked. "Ida-kun you feel we're your family?" Kurosawa followed.

Touched by Ida's words Naoya let out a small purring sound before realising where he was and clearing his throat. "Of course he does. I made sure he does. I made good work of making Ida a competent brother. Sota I trust you'll take care of Kouta."
"Don't ruin the moment Naoya but Fukuhara, Sota will look after you. We all will." Adachi declared, smiling. "And now that you know our procedure where would you like to start?" Aoki pulled away from his boyfriend, pouting hopefully at Fukuhara which earned him an eye roll from his brother.

Fukuhara thought for a minute , accessing the information he'd just recieved. He was sure he already liked Naoyas family though they overwhelmed him a bit. The smiles on each of their faces reminded him of Shinomiyas smile. Bright and kind. Always verging the point of laughter. Yes, He really liked the fact that they smiled like Shinomiya and yet he what liked even more was that they weren't Shinomiya. They were what made Shinomiya judging from what Ida had said. Adachis care, Aokis sillyness and Kurosawas perfection all added to who Shinomiya was. He really wanted to be liked by them too. He wanted to share in Ida's second home and be part of Shinomiyas family.

"I'll talk to Ida-kun some more." He answered tilting his head. "I'd like to start off by learning more about my new family."
