Work Text:
Izuku Midoriya has always loved fire or more specifically candles. He has always loved watching the flames dance along the wicks and wax, while the room filled with the smell of the candle. He loved watching the world unfold from the fire dancing along with the scent. Every scent was another world, he could never get sick of them. It was so, so soothing to him, it was his escape from the nightmare of a life he had ever since he was diagnosed as quirkless. His hatred of his life never stopped him from being obsessive of his candles though.
His obsession grew with him and soon enough he took a candle everywhere with him. He took one to school, shopping, and literally anywhere else.
It was another thing to bully him, unfortueately. He got insulted, kicked and just a full blown out beat, and his candle obsession just added to it.
His own mother even tells him he’s crazy. She tells him that he was alone too much and so his obsession grew from that. She reminded him everyday that she wouldn’t save him, but he wouldn’t need saving. Right?
Well, maybe but probably not.
Izuku has also been told he needs to learn to blow out his candles, he may or may not leave them burning while he sleeps, but that couldn’t ever hurt him. Right?
Well, maybe but probably not.
He has too many memories of his mother getting mad at him for letting his candles burn too long, but once again it has never hurt him and never will! Right?
Well, maybe but probably not.
Izuku’s mother has yelled at him for spending too much money on candles and apparently wasting money. But it isn’t wasting money! His mother just doesn’t understand! He is not wasting money on his candles! Right?
Well, maybe but probably not.
The worlds have kept him up before, his personal favorite, WoodWick could keep him busy for hours. His personal least favorite was Vanilla, it unfolded into a super boring story that he got sick of so fast. Unfortunately if he ever ran out of candles and couldn’t buy more his mom only had Vanilla! It was horrible! Traumatizing! And he wasn’t over reacting! Right?
Well, maybe but probably not.

His peaceful dream of his Lavender candle dream was interrupted by his mom barging into his room and blowing out his candle! How dare she!
Izuku’s eyes shot open as his dream dispersed into a black void. He turned to face his mother and question her when he saw the fury in her eyes.
His mother’s eyes were literally glowing, you could see her emerald eyes in the pitch black.
His mother grabbed his Lavender candle and tipped it over his face. The hot wax dripped onto his face. He screamed in pain as he was being burned by his second favorite candle. His calming story. His own creation. His skin and eye burned as it scarred.
Izuku opened his burned eye and saw nothing. His own creation had made him blind in his right eye. His own creation hurt him. Tears built up in his eyes and he burst into heavy sobs.
His mother just looked, “You blow out the candles! Izuku, when will you learn? You played with fire, and now you’re burned! This is your fault! You did this to yourself!”
Inko Midoriya walked into Izuku’s room as his mother and walked out as Inko.
Izuku cried for hours as he felt the pain caused by his own candle. He could never stop watching candles but he no longer liked Lavender, his once peaceful daydream/dream was now a nightmare. He could make sure his other candle dreams didn’t end up the same. He couldn’t live with that. Right?
Well, maybe but probably not.

From that terrible night forth Izuku tried to always blow out his candles before bed/ 10:00 p.m. but it didn’t always work.
Ink had a late shift and she didn’t come home until 11:46 p.m. Izuku had thought she would be home later and he was memorized by his lemon candle to hear her come into the apartment. Inko leaned over Izuku’s shoulder grabbing the candle and shoving it so close to hand, so that when she tipped it the flames licked Izuku and he screamed out in pain.
Inko blew out the candle and began, “Izuku I told you, and now you’re burned again ‘cause you didn’t blow out the candle. Once again this is your fault, not mine.
Inko walked away and left Izuku alone with his Lemon candle, once again burned from his own creation. Izuku scurried to his room and quietly lit his candle again.
The story quickly displayed in front of him and everything was destroyed, everything was burned, the clear blue sky was now a dark smokey grey. Another of his beautiful dreams was a nightmare. Nightmare! He couldn’t do this! He couldn’t!
Well, maybe but probably not.

The last time he got burned he had woke up to smoke and flames attempting to envelop him. Izuku ran out of his room and rushed into Inko’s.
“Mommy! There’s fire!” he called out.
Inko shot awake, and shoved past him to look outside her room. She turned to him in a lightning fast whip.
“What is this that I see? Floating right in front of me, Izuku?” Inko pressed.
“F-f-fire!” Izuku cried.
Inko walked out the bedroom and closed the door, locking the door behind her, “Izuku, don’t try to leave, this is your own doing. You didn’t blow out the candles, you’ll never learn! You don’t play with fire, but you’re already burned! Goodbye Izuku.”

Izuku Midoriya burned in that fire, while Inko Midoriya got out unscathed.
