Blood Bond

Summary:

Based on artwork by snivyartjpeg.

Yakou learns about a peculiar friendship ritual that vampire bats participate in.

Notes:

Back at it again with the kokolight vampire au!

Biggie and I are having way too much fun with it. And this idea is no exception. While it’s not something I write about typically, the idea for this was too good to not do.

You’ll understand when you get to it.

Work Text:

Yakou would admit that it was taking a while for the information to sink in. That Yuma Kokohead, the innocent, tiny, and helpless rookie he had taken under his wing was a vampire. Not that he had anything particularly against vampires! It was just… strange to think the least likely candidate was the blood sucking humanoid.

But he still tried to act normal around Yuma, instructing him each and every day that he needed to be careful around the Peacekeepers and to NOT go looking for trouble. Yuma seemed to appreciate this, smiling and nodding with his fangs more on display.

And with his newfound knowledge of a facet of Yuma and Vivia’s relationship, he noticed some more things. For example, how the vampire would dote and care for his human with attention and gifts. Most of these gifts were food related, a lot of which he learned later were beneficial in increasing blood flow and were rich in iron.

Yakou saw no reason to stop this, as Vivia absolutely needed those nutrients. He knew how the sleepy detective forgot to eat sometimes, so the pampering was beneficial.

The Chief also decided to not tell the others about his discovery, as it wasn’t his secret to tell. Yuma could tell them when he was ready. The poor thing probably didn’t understand half of his vampiric instincts and abilities himself, considering his amnesia. So life in Kanai Ward went on as usual.

For about a week. Because the world loved to mess with him, he was realizing.

Now it had caught him off guard, as it had started as a very normal day. He had a meeting with his employees, gave a run down of the situation again, then let them loose with warnings to not aggravate the Peacekeepers. Normal stuff.

The one slight caveat was Yuma tugging on his sleeve when everyone but him and Vivia had left. “Um… Is it okay if we… do the thing again here?” he asked hesitantly and nervously, like he always sounded when he made these requests. Vivia was also gazing up at him with one open eye, waiting to hear the response.

Yakou, having started to get used to this, just shrugged. “You mean feeding? Sure, that’s fine. Just don’t make a mess, got it? Do you know how hard it is to get blood out of carpet and cushions?”

Yuma laughed at this, his expression brightening. “Thanks, Chief! We’ll do it after our errands.” The rookie glanced over to Vivia with an excited look. “Hear that? We can do it!” he exclaimed while bouncing on his feet.

Vivia smiled back, then actually moved to crawl out of the fireplace and stand up. “I shall assist in your assigned tasks. Cooperation… is the key to success.”

Yakou’s eyes widened as he watched this. Vivia… was moving on his own with little convincing. So he must be enthused about this arrangement of theirs, too. For some reason.

But that was really none of Yakou’s business, so he said nothing as he watched the two detectives lace fingers and head to the sub’s hatch. They really were close.

The Chief shook his head, grabbing his own rain coat and putting it on. He couldn’t be slacking while his employees were hard at work. Time to scout the city for information again.

~~~~~~~~~~
The blue-haired detective hummed a tune to himself as he traveled back through the sewers with his hands in his pockets. It had been a fairly uneventful day, and not much had occurred. A few new tidbits of info, but little more than that. But given the fact that no Peacekeepers were chasing him or the Master Detectives down, he would call this a good day.
And now, all he wanted to do was dry off, sit in his comfy chair, and read his newspaper. Luckily, he had just arrived at his agency, so it wasn’t a far off dream. He climbed down the hatch, then turned around.
He halted when he noticed that the lobby was darker. Not pitch black, but a few of the lamps had been switched off. Which could only mean… Yuma and Vivia were busy.
Now he was faced with an interesting choice. He could always go back outside and wait until they were done. Or he could enter and pretend like nothing was amiss. Which was the better option to do?
After weighing his two choices, he decided to go for the latter. Partly because it would help show that he wasn’t super bothered by Yuma’s true nature and give him more confidence. But the other part was… morbidly curious. Was vampire feeding exactly like it was described and portrayed in films? Well, he had an opportunity to find out now. So he stepped closer to the door, now able to see what was happening.
Yuma and Vivia were currently sitting on the couch, with the taller man in front and the small vampire right behind him with fangs buried in the human’s shoulder. His eyes were dilated, much like a cat and he looked focused on his feeding. Vivia, meanwhile, seemed blissed out, like he was enjoying the sensation. And for all Yakou knew, maybe he was. That would explain the rare enthusiasm.
While not a really pleasant sight, Yakou didn’t find it appalling. And he had been fully prepared to announce his presence, opening his mouth to speak.
But Vivia interrupted him with a strand of words that shocked him. “The way my blood compels you… It makes me wonder how it tastes. Would you share with me?” he asked the vampire, who detached his fangs with blood still on his mouth and sporting a look of confusion. But the sleepy detective turned around on the couch, locking lips with the lilac-haired rookie. Yuma made a tiny noise, but didn’t protest as the kiss deepened and blood started transferring over to Vivia. Both seemed to enjoy this, only parting when they needed breath.
Meanwhile, Yakou was internally screaming. Nope! Never mind, he’d never interrupt again. Not worth it. Those two could do whatever they wanted, but he didn’t have to bear witness to any more freaky vampire courtship stuff. But in his haste to turn, his wet shoes made a squealing sound and alerted the others of his presence.
Yakou froze, then slowly turned his head back to see the reactions. Both were looking, but Vivia was softly smiling and Yuma was still coming back from being blood drunk. Vivia was again the one to speak first. “Ah, welcome back. How was your day, Chief?” he asked casually.
Yakou buried his face in his hands, groaning loudly before fully facing the two. “And what, if I may be so bold to ask, was THAT!? Don’t you know that’s unsanitary!?” he found himself nearly shouting, concern for his employee’s health overtaking his embarrassment.
The green-haired detective softly chuckled, sitting up on the couch. Yuma, who now looked far more coherent, began blushing furiously as he grabbed a few tissues to start wiping away the blood from his mouth and Vivia’s wounds. He remained quiet, likely too embarrassed to explain. Lucky for him, Vivia had no such shame. “It’s… a fascinating fact. Vampire bats have… a unique bonding activity. They share blood with the ones who… they desire a close friendship or relationship with. So I thought… it would be a romantic gesture.”
“R-really!? That’s… an actual fact?” The Chief rubbed his temples, trying to ward off the upcoming headache. “Okay, okay. This is fine. It’s none of my business.” He then pointed at the two. “But next time you decide to do a blood filled French Kiss, do it in Vivia’s hotel room!”
Yuma sat up straight with a little nervous look. “Okay, Chief. I’m… really sorry. I didn’t know he was going to try that here.” He then grunted as Vivia collapsed on top of him on the couch. “Vivia! I’m not the fireplace! If you’re going to fall asleep, don’t do it on… And he’s already out. Of course.”
Yakou finally had the energy and drive to walk in, moving to the back of the couch and peering over. Just as Yuma had said, the Master Detective had passed out. He didn’t stir even as the rookie repositioned him to lay his head on his lap. He was too deeply asleep.
Yakou then felt the need to point something out. “Not sleeping in bat form this time?” he inquired, remembering when he first found them out.
Yuma shook his head, scratching his chin. “I think the shock of you seeing… us… chased whatever grogginess I had away. I’m so sorry again.”
Yakou sighed, trying to shove that memory to the back of his mind. “How about this? Neither of us talk about it anymore. Let’s pretend it never happened and I know nothing.”
“I… I can do that,” Yuma agreed. “I’ll talk to him and try to convince him to rein it in a little better from this point forward.”
“Please do. You give my heart such a workout, kid.” He reached over and ruffled the lilac hair, managing a grin. “But at least things are never boring with you all around.”
The smile and giggle he got in reply warmed him inside. It was almost enough to consider the scene he witnessed earlier worth it.
Almost, but not quite. He would definitely be needing a drink later.
Notes:
This one certainly was a lil spicier than my usual fics. But hey! It’s fun to try new things every now and again.
Here’s the art it was based on:
