“Amane-kunn!!” Yashiro called out to him, wandering the halls, searching the classrooms, but there was no sign of him.
“Ah, Tsuchigomori-sensei,” Yashiro caught up him walking to the bookstore, “Do you know where Amane went?”
Yashiro was starting to get worried, she hadn’t seen her since homeroom class. They’d always greet each other in the halls and have conversation after classes, but now that he suddenly disappeared, uneasiness pooled in her gut, moving her to find him.
“I saw him at the start of class, but after our lunch break, I haven’t seen him anywhere…” Yashiro explained.
“Ahh, is that so,” Tsuchigomori-sensei seemed to have a closer relationship to Amane than other teachers, so coming to him could get Yashiro some actual progress. Tsuchigomori sighed, “Well, since you’re his friend, I guess it would be fine to tell you.”
The skies near the horizon were coming to a bright orange, slowly creeping into the blue sky above– as cool as the breeze. Amane stared up, but not for admiring the blue sky, sitting at the smaller block of structure above the rooftop, feet dangling at the edge and above the floor of the rooftop.
“Amane-kun!” Yashiro’s long hair blew along with the breeze as she climbed up to Amane from the ladder; the latter hadn’t even heard her open the door to the rooftop.
“Ah… Yashiro,” He glanced at her. Amane gave her a light chuckle and a welcoming smile, “What are you doing here?”
Yashiro sat just beside him, looking at him with a worried expression on her face, “I haven’t seen you all day! What happened to you?”
“Oh… it’s just that–” Amane brought a knee up to his chin, holding it tight with his arms wrapped around it, “I had a small fight with Tsukasa today… so I’ve been just a bit down.”
“A fight?” Yashiro tilted her head, her voice soft, “What was it about?”
“I don’t even remember!” He laughed, staring at the clouds far off in front of him, “But it’s the first time I’ve seen him mad at me. It’s usually the other way around but… I must have really pissed him off this time around…”
Amane lowered and tucked his head in his arms, hiding his face from the comfort beside him.
“Man…what’s wrong with me?” His voice was weak with laughter, the heartache that comes from a quiet moment in a scene of chaos making his strong resolve gradually weak.
“Amane-kun…”
“...I feel sorta bad for yelling at him,” The voice so quiet it was almost a whisper, was brought out mumbled by the arms that covered up the sad face. “I’ve gotten so used to him not getting mad at me back that– …I underestimated Tsukasa’s feelings,”
Yashiro grabbed at his arm, holding on just as tightly, “Amane-kun!” The wind that blew away the bangs from Amane’s forehead came and went– so strongly and suddenly, just as he had peeked out from his hideout tucked between his arms.
“I promise you, Amane-kun!” Yashiro stared back into him, his eyes looked so sad, that it made her heart ache too, “--that Tsukasa-kun could never hate you!”
Amane swears that the thin clouds above them cleared up right then to let down rays of sunlight in an already bright orange skyline to the two. It shone on half of Amane’s face, and half of Yashiro’s. Plus shining on her fat normal-sized ankles.
“No matter what, it’ll be okay.” Yashiro nodded against the softened breeze, tightening her lips to look into Amane’s eyes, seeing if he can understand her. She clasps her hands with one of his; Holding it spread the warmth from her hand to his, and along with exposure to the sun, it struck his heart so gently, in a way that could never.
“It’s what siblings do, right?” She tilted her head in a meek smile, looking down at the floor in bashfulness, “But you two still love each other, so much that a simple fight can’t possibly get rid of that!
“Thanks for talking to me, Amane-kun!” She grinned at him, “Because even if you feel down or anything, I can always be there to comfort you, and help you with whatever you want.”
Amane’s eyes melted with his grin towards Yashiro, his smile so wide it reached his eyes, “Thanks, Yashiro.”
Yashiro smiled back just as kindly, a smile so wide that it pinched up her cheeks, “I’m glad I was able to help!”
“Amane-kun!” Yashiro still held his hand with one of hers, but neither of the two noticed with them looking at one another, “Do you want to get some ice cream? I’ve been craving it lately.”
“Sure, but can we get some tomorrow? I think I’m gonna go run and apologize to Tsukasa,” He smiled.
“Okay!”
Before Amane left, he leaned and gave Yashiro a peck on the cheek. “Well then, I’ll be off!” Climbing down the ladder he waved at her with a smirk, “Thanks for everything, Yashiro~!”
With the sound of the rooftop door shutting close, Yashiro blinked back to a conscious state, “Wha–..!”
Her face was redder and brighter than the advancing sunset, “Amane-kunn!!”
