Zack hardly even remembered how he got the idea to enchant the pasta—that's how eager he'd been to act upon it once the idea did strike him. Something, something eating dinner at Spike's house then seeing a box of noodles on the counter and then realizing he had a mastered Sleep on him and then remembering some obscure lesson when he was only a ShinRa cadet of the dangers of mixing materia and inanimate objects.
