Chapter Text
I just got done with Adam and Juliette. They were practically having sex in the medical wing. Gross. I already took Juliette to Sonya and Sarah's room and now I am walking with Adam and James back to my– our– room. I can’t say I’m exactly thrilled to be his roommate again, he is not the best company. I am just hoping James is a little better than his asshole of an older brother. When we walk in I turn to them.
“Okay, here’s the deal, I don’t care what you do during the day, that's none of my business. But you need to be back in this room by curfew. 8PM.” I pause to see if they are both keeping up with me, “If you aren’t back by that time I’m locking the door and you’re not getting let back in until the morning.” Of course when I say this I am looking at Adam because he is what I am most concerned about, “And, you can’t sleep in anyone else's room.”
Adam just nods and I’m not entirely convinced but I have no choice. “Okay! See that was easy, now I’ll show you to the bathrooms and yada-yada.” I say.
Once I am done showing them both where everything is we go back to the room and I get some things to take a shower. Then I remember that Autumn has her own bathroom. I cannot believe this. I leave my room and instead of going to the community bathrooms I walk in the opposite direction to Autumn's room. When I finally make it there I knock and it takes a few seconds for me to get an answer.
“Come in!” She says.
She is sitting on the bed eating and when she looks at me I can tell I am not expected at all.
“What are you doing here?” She asks and I fake being hurt.
“Um you invited me, remember?” I say and she obviously has no idea what I am talking about because she raises her eyebrow, I sigh, “‘You are welcome to use it anytime.’” I say while trying to mimic her voice and pointing to the bathroom.
Her mouth falls open as she remembers the conversation we had earlier, “Oohh.”
“Yeah.” I say.
She looks down at the clothes in my hand and opens her mouth to say something, “Okay then, knock yourself out. Just be done before the lights go out, I do not want you sleeping in here.” She says and I smirk, remembering how quickly she passed out.
“You didn’t seem to mind it very much in that compound.” I say and she opens her mouth again.
“I was sleep deprived, it doesn’t count.” She says and I walk to the bathroom.
“Okay cupcake, whatever you say.” I say and I see her pick up a pillow. I shut the door and hear it hit the door.
I laugh slightly and then lock the bathroom door. Her bathroom is pretty big, I wonder if this room was made just because of Autumn. I swear I’ve never seen it before. The first thing I notice is the huge mirror above the sink. I’m glad the shower has a curtain, I do not want to watch myself shower.
I am finally done showering and I’ve decided I am never going back to the community showers. The pressure of Autumns shower is like I am getting an actual massage. I quickly get dressed and then check my watch, 7:30, perfect. I open the bathroom door and Autumn is in the same spot that she was in when I got to her room. But she isn’t eating, she is reading. Reading? How in the hell did she get a book? I plop down on her bed and she looks at me with disgust.
“You are going to make my sheets dirty,” she says and I laugh.
“Yeah whatever, how did you get that?” I ask and she smiles.
“I have had it for years. Before the reestablishment happened I had a huge library, I managed to save some books.” She pauses and looks at the cover of the book, “I have probably read this over a hundred times.”
“Interesting.” I say and she rolls her eyes at me.
“It is interesting, books are amazing.” She says and I furrow my brows.
I never really read any books before the reestablishment burned them all. I saw no point in it. I liked movies much better. No words on a page could live up to a freaking movie that's for sure.
“I never understood the appeal of books. They seem boring.” I say and she looks at me like I just killed her childhood pet.
“Have you ever read a book? What do you mean they seem boring?”
“No, I’ve never actually read a book for fun. I know like, Dr.Suess but that’s it.”
Her mouth is agape and her eyes are wide, “What!? How?! I feel so bad for you.”
“You feel bad for me? I feel bad for you. Did you even have any friends as a kid?”
Her eyebrows furrow, “No, I didn’t need friends,” She holds up her book, “I had books.”
“That is the lamest thing I’ve ever heard.”
She shakes her head and gets up, her thumb stays inside the book saving her page as she reaches into her bag. She pulls out another book and hands it to me. “Read this and then tell me you don’t like books.”
The book is pretty beat up but I can still make out the name. The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. I look at her and raise my eyebrow. “This looks boring.”
“Just read it! You’ll like it.”
“Uh-huh.” I don’t think I’ll like this. I probably won't even be able to finish it. “So… are you sure you don’t want me to stay? Because this bed is really comfortable.” I say and she laughs.
“Yeah, I’m sure, trust me.”
“Damn.” I say while getting up, “That hurts cupcake.”
She throws the pillow again and this time it does hit me. I laugh and toss it back while walking out of her room.
I check my watch and it is 7:35. I get back to mine, Adams, and James's room and they are both already there. Good, I half expected Adam to be an asshole and go see Juliette after I told him not to. I drop the book Autumn gave me on my desk. I lay down on my bed and sigh, then I look over at Adam.
“By the way, Winston wants us to meet him tomorrow to see Juliettes suit so get ready to wake up nice and early.” I say and he exhales.
“Okay.” He says and I roll my eyes. God he’s annoying.
