Work Text:

Well, this wasn’t great.

…It wasn’t terrible. But it wasn’t great either.

Legend lets out a tired sigh, running a hand through his hair as he walks through a forest he doesn’t recognize.

The portals this time around weren’t so friendly, he barely got a chance to grab his shit before he was falling and landing on his ass somewhere else.

Which would have just been irritating on its own. An inconvenience, perhaps- nothing more. But alas, it came with the other inconvenience of landing nowhere near the rest of the chain.

Ugh.

Find the nearest town or whatever rest stop and stay there. Which only works out about… Fifty percent of the time.

Whatever.

Legend organizes his things as he walks, checking to see if anything got left behind. At least if anything did get left behind- he has the comfort of knowing that it was left with Malon.

And doesn’t that also suck? Getting portaled away while at such a comforting place. He feels a little pang of sympathy for Time on that one.

Seems that he only left his brush… He’ll have to borrow Wilds until he can get it back.

Legend breathes in, and breathes out.

Don’t get irritated, don’t get irritated. Just keep walking.

He feels like he’s getting nowhere after five minutes, and after ten he’s pausing and glancing towards one of the trees.

Maybe if he squints hard enough, he’ll know whose damn Hyrule he’s in.

Nope. Not a clue. These trees looked like his own, but they also looked like Wild’s. And like Time’s. And like Twilight’s. And Like-

….

Damn it.

He keeps walking.

He keeps walking until he hears something that sounds like a windchime, and he immediately stops in order to look around.

Before he can ponder on what the noise was for too long, he hears it again.

And again.

And again.

And-

He steps as quietly as he can towards the noise- with every chime he inches closer and closer, until the noise is right in front of him.

It… It was coming from a hollowed out tree, laying on the ground.

Fairy chimes then. His mind supplies, he wasn’t going to get answers from a fairy who’ll run as soon as it sees him.

Well, he can at least try. He does have an empty jar on him.

Legend shuffles to the side with skilled, quiet steps. And when he sees the glow of the fairy- confirming what he thought, he slowly reaches for his empty jar.

Okay. He’s done this like, a hundred times. It’s easy peasy.

Legend takes the cap off of the jar, keeping an eye on the glow coming from the tree.

Okay. One… Two…

He slams the jar down onto the glowing orb, gotcha.-

WAIT!

Legend freezes, that-

He immediately lowers himself in order to look into the hollowed out tree, and what greets him makes his eyebrows raise.

Hyrule’s fairy form was something he’s seen before- but Wild, Wild.

He had caught Wild in his jar.

Wild was a fairy.

What the fuck.

“Ledge!” Hyrule chimes immediately when recognizing him- his expression relaxing into relief. “I thought you were a stranger- thank goodness. But um…” Hyrule taps at the jar, and Legend blinks over to Wild again.

Wild was the one letting out the consistent chimes, one of his wings fluttering rapidly as he stared Legend down with a tiny pout.

Right. Okay.

Legend lifts the jar back up and backs up, watching Hyrule immediately scoop Wild into his little arms and fly up towards Legend.

Wild was doing his best to help take any weight off of Hyrule as the other carried him- but he only had one wing available to him. Hyrule just ends up giving Wild a look that makes him stop fluttering the one wing, and tighten his hold on the other.

Legend holds out his hand, frown deepening as he gets a better look at the two as they land on his palm.

“How… Did this happen?” Legend questions, staring down Wild’s wing that only sways a little with the wind.

The wing that seemed damaged- but not in a fresh injury kinda way. It looked healed, just… Torn and unable to do anything.

“Um, so…” Hyrule starts, arms still around Wild despite being atop of Legend’s palm. “As it turns out, Wild is VERY susceptible to too much fairy magic. I found him hurt on the ground, and he wasn’t hurt too bad. But- you know. I wasn’t going to leave him like that.” Hyrule rambles, opening his mouth to continue- only to get interrupted by Wild chiming.

….

“...Rulie’.” Legend snaps Hyrule’s attention back away from Wild, “Continue.”

“Right.” Hyrule ignores Wild’s next chime, though his eye twitches. “So I didn’t know that a fairy had already healed him before I got there? Which means it took care of a big injury and erm- left the um, smaller ones-” His eye twitches again at another chime from Wild, “I healed him again and I guess that combined with the fairy’s magic- it just.. Did this.”

Wild’s wing starts to flutter again when Legend looks to him, more chimes escaping him that has Hyrule biting his lip and looking as if it was painful to not look at Wild.

“His.. Wing I think just formed from his scars so… He can’t really fly with it-” Hyrule finally goes completely still when Wild chimes again, and Legend lets out a groan.

“Okay. What the fuck is up with you? I understand Wild’s predicament now- magic bullshit, yeah. But why are you so…” Legend waves his other hand in an exasperated manner, “Distracted?”

Hyrule inhales then exhales, “Wild is, erm. He’s speaking. In fairy. And he’s enjoying it- a lot. Which I understand completely. Because he just has to use his wings to do it instead of actually speaking. But-” Another chime has his nose scrunch up, “It’s really hard to ignore those chimes. Like. Um, how do I say this…”

“Fairy instincts.” Legend deadpans, letting out a sigh when Hyrule rapidly nods. “Right. I’ve seen fairies chime to one another and they group up immediately- what is Wild saying then?”

“...He’s just repeating ‘hug’, ‘hold’, and ‘attention’ over and over again.” Hyrule whines, “Which I also get because he’s never been in this form before and he’s a little…

Wild chimes again, his eye wide and oblivious-

“Air headed.” Legend says in another deadpan and regrets it when Hyrule gasps in offense on behalf of Wild.

“He’s just not used to being a fairy! Don’t be rude, Legend.” Hyrule chastises, “Anyways. I’m positive we’re in Twilight’s Hyrule. So. I imagine he’ll be showing up as Wolfie pretty soon- we just need to sit tight.”

Legend lets out a breath of relief, “Good.” He leans against the fallen tree, “Sooo…” He tilts his head down at Hyrule, giving a shit-eating smirk which has Hyrule’s ears twitching suspiciously. “Are you going to answer his chimes?”

Hyrule squints up at him, wings fluttering a tiny bit as he thinks.

He then looks to Wild, whom instantly chimes insistently when the attention is directed at him.

Mhm… Are you sure you want that?” Hyrule questions in a genuine tone, looking back to Legend and making Wild actually whine.

That whine seems to have Hyrule freezing, which makes it a bit more amusing than it needs to be.

Hm.

Yet, why did Hyrule say it like that? What would happen if he just gave Wild a more proper hug or whatever?

Wild whines again, this time invading Hyrule’s space more- laying his head dramatically onto the other fairy’s shoulder with a huff and wrapping his arms around his neck.

Hyrule looks like he’s about to burst.

“Good Hylia, just do it. He’s making me feel bad and you look like you’re going to explode.” Legend rolls his eyes, though fondly.

Hyrule sticks his tongue out at Legend, then immediately starts fluttering his wings. The chimes that come from him has Wild looking back up, fluttering his one wing rapidly back and now Legend has, quite literally, a handful of chimes.

He watches as Hyrule noses at Wild’s cheek in a caring manner, and Wild absorbs the attention in like a sponge.

Which… Wasn’t bad, honestly. Wild certainly deserved the attention- especially considering he normally sucks at asking for it.

Legend watches them both chatter for a bit, every so often looking up and around as to keep watch.

But then- well, he has a bit of.. A realization.

“Hyrule.” He starts, looking towards the fairy.

The fairy does not respond, chimes still going.

Hyrule.” Legend says, more insistent-

Hyrule still doesn’t respond.

….Ah. So this is why Hyrule questioned if he really wanted him to respond to Wild or not.

Fairy instincts, huh.

Well, that’s just peachy. So he’s supposed to explain this on his own to the rest?

Yeah, no way. He’ll just..

Legend slowly lifts up the hand without the fairies on it,

….

Fuck, wait. Should he really separate the two?

He’s. Regretting letting Hyrule cave in like that now. Damn his own indecisions.

Legend heavily sighs, leaning further against the fallen tree in a tired manner. He can’t cover them up. The others- well, Wolfie will certainly know they’re there. But none of them know about Hyrule’s fairy form- except for him and.. Now Wild.

Sooo separating them was his only option if he was going to-

“Ledge.” Hyrule’s voice startles Legend to sit back up, and he meets the eyes to a smug looking fairy.

Legend raises an eyebrow, “..Wha-” He glances to Wild, and the other fairy is sound asleep. He lets out little breaths of air, the wings behind him drooped and swaying softly- no more chimes come from him.

Legend blinks.

“I-” He immediately lowers his voice to a whisper, “That’s great and all, but how do you expect on explaining this when Twi shows up, hm?”

Hyrule freezes, his upright wings slowly drooping.

Legend resists facepalming.

UHhhh…. I.. I could just… Turn back and…” He looks down to Wild, frown deepening. “...Actually I’d.. Rather not leave him alone like that.” Hyrule shoots his gaze back up to Legend, “Can’t we just hide in your pouch for a bit? Let him regain his magic and and-

“Hyrule.” Legend interrupts, Hyrule’s mouth snapping shut. “Not only would that possibly take all day- but Twi will know you both are in there. Wolf form, remember? Besides… Hylia knows the rest of the chain won’t stop looking for you two.”

“....” Hyrule plops down in a sit on Legends palm along with Wild, situating the other fairy so he’s in a comfortable position. “It’s not fair, Ledge.” Hyrule pouts, petting at Wild’s head. “I.. I guess I’m fine with being seen like this. But Wild doesn’t really get a choice either.”

“Mmh..” Legend hums, “At least.. It’s good to know the risks of healing Wild with too much fairy magic, hm? We can be more prepared for the future.”

Hyrule says nothing at that, rather hugging Wild closer to him.

Legend doesn’t push, he can let Hyrule mentally prepare instead and… Well, if they were lucky- Wild would just turn back within the next few minutes or so and they can push this to a later date.

…His expectations are low, however.

It’s quiet for a long moment, which Legend is fine with. It gave him time to settle down completely from the day this has been so far.

His ear flicks when he hears a distant ‘woosh’. His first thought is- the wind, his next thought is- It’s not that windy, dumbass.

He tenses up, bringing the fairies closer to his chest and very very quietly standing up. He ignores Hyrule’s questioning look in order to step over towards one of the standing trees, using it as a little bit of coverage and peeking around.

He immediately curses mentally, hiding completely again and looking down to Hyrule with a grimace.

“...What is it?” Hyrule questions in a whisper.

“Did you see what had attacked Wild at all? Because there’s a wizzrobe right behind us.” He whispers back, causing Hyrule’s wings to do a stressed flutter.

“...No, I only saw some monster blood. I assumed he poofed them.” Hyrule taps at his chin, “...That actually makes a little more sense… A mixture of wizzrobe magic and fairy magic- and.. My fairy magic? But… Why didn’t the wizzrobe stay then?”

“..If it’s black-blooded it may be smarter. And if that’s the case, then-” Legend freezes when Hyrule lets out a gasp,

RUN!” Hyrule yelps as Legend wastes no time, holding the fairies in a secure grip and throwing himself off to the side just in time to avoid a blast from the wizzrobe’s wand.

“God fucking damn it-” Legend curses, sighing when he hears Wild start chiming again. So much for letting him sleep it off.

Focus, Legend.

The Wizzrobe laughs at him, and his eye twitches.

Shut the fuck up,” He grumbles, barely dodging a zap that goes flying passed his face. He quickly reaches for his sword, only to hesitate when he remembers he’s still holding Hyrule and Wild.

Right.

“Hyrule you have the option of either-” He lets out a humf when avoiding another zap, “Turning back- and holding Wild for me or-” A gasp as he ducks down and has to roll to the side, “Or you both can get into my bag and cope with the bumpy ass ride-” He yelps as he falls onto his back, having to quickly push himself up with one hand and duck behind the fallen tree from before.

There’s worried chimes coming from his palm, Wild, Legend guesses as some chimes answer him back that sound far more calming than they should for this situation.

“I’ll turn back!” Hyrule pipes up after a way too long pause, “Put me on the ground and run for a tree, quickly!”

Legend wastes no time in doing so, gently grabbing Hyrule and letting him float towards the ground. He gives himself about three seconds before he tucks Wild to his chest and dashes away from the other fairy.

Legend doesn’t see it, but Wild is clutching onto his tunic tightly- his eyes shut closed as she shoves his face into the clothing as to hide. He stays quiet, and although Legend is thankful for that- it does worry him.

He hopes he wasn’t too afraid without Hyrule reassuring him.

Legend avoids another two zaps before Hyrule is right in front of his face, no longer a fairy and making a grabby motion at him. Legend- doing so once more in a gently way- pries Wild off of his tunic and places him into Hyrule’s hand.

Hyrule quickly cradles Wild against his own chest, unable to make the same chimes as before but whispering little light reassurances as he grabs Legend and tugs him behind another tree just as a bolt of magic came rushing towards them.

Wild answers Hyrule with frantic chimes that Legend can only guess mean ‘Worry worry worry’. Something like that, judging by Hyrule’s frown.

“I’m gonna put him into my tunic and let him hang on, he should be okay.” Hyrule whispers, adjusting Wild to do just that without letting Legend question it. Wild seems… Well, he’s certainly not pleased with the situation- he looked stressed, but he seems fine with gripping Hyrule’s tunic as tightly as possible.

The image of Hyrule with a tiny Wild right below his chin should be a lot cuter than this, but Legend can’t dwell on that.

Wild lets out a warning chime, making Hyrule and Legend flee from behind the tree right as it gets blasted- the tree falls down, hitting the ground extremely loudly and making birds that were in the trees nearby go flying away.

“Fucking hell-” Legend digs through his bag, pulling out his fire rod as a last minute decision and jumping to the side when Wild chimes in warning again.

Bless Wild for still wanting to help despite the stress. He was likely gaining better control on fighting against his newfound instincts for this- which sucks considering the situation could be a lot calmer for him to do so.

After a lot more dodging and accidentally burning himself once or twice, Legend manages to shoot the damn thing to the ground and Hyrule wastes no time in striking it in the head as soon as it slammed down. Wild lets out a chime of complaint when some of the blood gets onto his face, and Hyrule waits with bated breath for the wizzrobe to go completely still.

When the wizzrobe shudders, then explodes into dust- Hyrule and Legend both let out a breath of relief.

“Didn’t take too many hits to go down.” Legend huffs, reaching down to pick up the magic rod left behind by the wizzrobe.

“I can take a guess that Wild managed to weaken it a bit..” Hyrule hums, taking out a handkerchief and wiping the blood off of Wild’s cheek after putting his sword away. The fairy whines, doing a poor job at trying to shove Hyrule off. “Shush and let me clean you off.” Hyrule humphs.

Legend drops the magic rod into his backpack along with his fire rod, taking a long glance around as to make sure he didn’t drop anything during that mess before looking up at Hyrule and Wild.

And well, the day still fucking sucked. But the sight of Wild getting babied by Hyrule was always amusing. Even more amusing now that he was so small.

…Though that amusement doesn’t last long, and Legend frowns deeply when Wild lets out a panicked breath of air that has Hyrule pausing.

Hey hey hey…” Hyrule mumbles reassuringly, removing him from the inside of his tunic and cupping him in his hands. Wild was fluttering his wings stressfully, the chimes having no real pattern to them.

And.. Oh boy. Wild was crying.

Legend doesn’t mean for that to sound like he’s annoyed by it. It’s more like he doesn’t want the others to find Wild like this along with him being a fairy. It was only one or the other, and he’d prefer them to find a happy, needy little fairy just as he had.

“Can you turn back?” Legend questions, stepping over to them both and bringing up a hand towards Wild’s tiny face in an attempt to wipe away any tears. Wild’s small hands come up to weakly grab at his finger.

Legend winces slightly however when the motion of doing so tugs on one of his fresh burns.

I-” Hyrule looks from Wild to Legend, and Legend grimaces when Hyrule’s eye twitches.

Rulie.” Legend says in as calm of a tone he can muster, “Turn into a damn fairy, I can handle the burns. It’s fine.” He pries Hyrule’s hands out of the cupped position, grabbing Wild himself as the fairy starts to sob.

Hyrule watches this movement with an unwavering stare, ears twitching every time Wild breathes out shakily.

“...Fine.” Hyrule puffs out then, snapping himself out of the stare. Legend gives him an expectant look, while stroking at the top of Wild’s head gently.

Hyrule brings up his hands to his face as to smack himself lightly in order to get himself to focus, taking in a deep breath before his body starts to glow a light green and he slowly shrinks down to the ground.

Legend barely manages to not drop Wild as soon as Hyrule flies up to him, the stressed fairy desperate to try and get to Hyrule as quickly as he can. Hyrule is all too happy to wrap his arms around Wild and hold him tightly, situating them both in a comfortable position in Legend’s hands.

Back to sitting down, then. Legend thinks, watching Hyrule and Wild for a moment as Hyrule works his magic on calming Wild down. He’s hesitant to start walking to find a safe sitting spot, but he’d also rather not be anywhere near where the wizzrobe had been. So, he picks a direction and he walks with a handful of chimes once more.

Hyrule’s fairy chimes almost has him slowing down, they were… Oddly calming, even for him. He sneaks a glance down to his hands as he moves forward, and is pleased to see Wild simply battling sleep instead of stressfully crying now.

He needs to get Hyrule the shiniest gem he can in the future for this. Their healer deserved it for always being so attentive towards them all.

Legend lets out a soft sigh as he looks back up, eyebrows furrowing in mild discomfort as he feels a headache making itself all comfy in his head. That was to be expected. Only Hylia knows if he’ll get a damn break any time soon or n-

He hears a rustle coming from off to the side.

…Ok. You mention the Goddess’ name, and it’s a gamble on whether or not that’s a good thing he just heard. Ugh.

Legend stops walking, shifting as to squint into the trees.

Oh! It was a good thing! Lucky him!

…Seeing a damn wolf in the forest doesn’t really make up for all the other bullshit, but he’ll take it.

He taps his foot on the ground, making that wolf’s attention snap over to him and Legend immediately shifts the fairies over to one hand as gently as he can so he can bring up a finger to his mouth as to motion for Twilight to stay quiet.

Twilight doesn’t step closer quite yet, instead sniffing the air then giving Legend a confused look. Legend gestures for him to come over, kneeling down to the ground and cupping his hands again as to hold the fairies more securely.

Twilight has the lightest steps in the world as he approaches Legend, and Legend appreciates it for both his headache and Wild now sleeping deeply in his hands. Hyrule is still holding Wild in what Legend assumes to be an incredibly comforting embrace, especially judging by the petting of Wild’s hair.

He extends his hands out a little towards Twilight once he gets close enough, and Twilight’s eyes widen in a comedic fashion. The wolf sniffs gently at the fairies, and if his eyes could widen further- they would.

Twilight gets the stink eye from Hyrule when his nose gets too close to them both, and Twilight immediately backs up. Hyrule flutters his wings in a ‘humph.’ sort of fashion, turning his attention back to Wild after.

Legend is just surprised that Hyrule wasn’t reacting any more than that- but he supposes he was much more focused on Wild at the moment.

Twilight looks up to him with a questioning look, and Legend sighs.

“Hyrule is half fairy, and Wild got struck by a wizzrobe.” Legend says in a deadpan, and Twilight gives him a different look that says ‘I’m gonna need more than that.’

Legend glances around, before staring at Wolfie and grumbling under his breath about sucking at explaining these things.

Twilight boofs quietly, and Legend bites at his lip.

“I don’t really understand the magic part of it, okay? But uh, Wild I think fought the wizzrobe on his own- got hurt, and Hyrule found him and tried to heal him. Then he turned into a fairy. After I found Hyrule and Wild, the Wizzrobe came back because y’know- of course it wasn’t fucking dead.”

Twilight deadpans back at him. Legend just rolls his eyes, “I’m not swearing in front of the kids, Twi. Wild is asleep. It’s fine. Anyways. Hyrule and I fought the wizzrobe until it died, Wild got a little too overwhelmed with it all and stressed. It’s why Hyrule is giving you the stink eye, he’s making sure Wild stays asleep.”

Twilight lets out a small whine, ears going all droopy as he gives Legend a pleading expression.

Legend’s headache throbs.

“I’d ask you to turn back and explain yourself, but judging by the fact that you’re alone- I’m assuming we’re the first people you sniffed out?” He questions, humming at Wolfie’s nod. “Right. Well,” Legend stands up, “Use that nose of yours and lead the way. This is your Hyrule, isn’t it?”

Twilight huffs through his nose, and rolls his eyes. The wolf then turns to one direction, giving the ground a good sniff before starting an easy to keep up with trot.

Legend follows, holding the fairies to his chest so they could have some extra warmth and stay secure.

Ok. Great. Things are back on track to being normal again. Or at least, whatever their normal is.

His head throbs again, this time much worse and it has him stopping as to shut his eyes closed tightly and try to convince it to not get worse.

Twilight lets out a quiet boof, but Legend still does not open his eyes.

Ohhh this is awful.

He tries to blink open his eyes again, but the light outside made things hurt worse. Why was it this bad? Did he get a migraine that quickly? Fucking h-

Legend suddenly wobbles and falls to the ground, the fairies falling out of his hands- making Hyrule yelp and flutter his wings rapidly as to keep a hold of Wild. He pouts, chimes coming off as irritated as Wild was awake again- blinking tiredly in confusion and looking at Hyrule with a mirrored pout.

Twilight walks over to be right underneath where Hyrule is flying, and Hyrule makes the smart decision to land on the wolf’s head. This was much cozier anyways.

Now then…

After situating Wild again and ignoring Twilight’s boof of acknowledgement, he looks over to see why Legend even dropped th-

Oh.

Hyrule’s wings start fluttering rapidly again, but he doesn’t fly- and it’s purely out of worry along with confusion.

Where Legend landed is a pink rabbit. In which, Hyrule knows is Legend- what he’s confused about is… How it even happened.

Hyrule’s eye twitches.

Legend didn’t tell him he got hit with magic by the wizzrobe.

Typical.

Hyrule pats at Twilight’s head, and the wolf lets out another boof before inching forward as to sniff at Legend. Then, Twilight starts to nudge him- until Legend lets out a groan and forces himself to sit up, clutching his head.

Legend blinks slowly, getting rid of the blur in his vision and-

….

….

Legend stares blankly, then lowers his paws to the front of his face.

….

“I’m gonna kill myself.” Legend states bluntly, “Throw myself off of a bridge. Then get eaten by fucking Sidon or something else in the water after I drown.”

Mhm…” Hyrule rolls his eyes, ignoring Legend’s glare. He pets at Wild’s head, urging him to go back to sleep as the other lets out a tiny snuffle. “I know it wouldn’t have prevented this, but you could have told me you got hit by the wizzrobe.” He says in a quiet voice, knowing that Legend and Twilight could hear it in their animal forms.

“I-” Legend groans, “I didn’t know, ‘Rulie. I swear. I thought it was from my fire rod. Ugh.” He stands up onto two paws, his ears twitching at every sound the forest makes. “Whatever. At least my headache is gone-”

“You had a headache?? No. It was a migraine, wasn’t it-”

“‘Rulie, please.” Legend interrupts the fairy, making Hyrule pout again. “Twi,” He looks at the wolf, “For the love of Hylia, lead us somewhere safe. I have reached a breaking point. If I’m seen like this, and hear any laughter, I will simply find a way to curse the others. For now, I would very much enjoy a long, at least eight hour sleep.”

Twilight snorts, but nods his head and gestures for Legend to follow. He’s very careful in not moving his head too much as to not jostle the fairies atop of him, and leads the way once more.

As they move along, Wild, in his sleepy little state of mind, starts to pet at Twilight’s fur. Twilight barely feels it, but lets out a small boof of appreciation nonetheless that has Wild making happy, tired chimes.

Twilight seems happy to have made Wild happy, and his tail wags as he trots along.

Hyrule is fine with this, as it eventually coaxes Wild to pass out again- and god forbid, if someone wakes him up again that is not himself, he will have words. Many, many words.

Legend trails beside Twilight, every so often stopping to make sure the rustle of a bush nearby wasn’t anything serious- then easily catching up with his speedy rabbit hops. He’s stopped cursing Hylia in his head, and is much more focused on just getting somewhere where he can get a full night's sleep so he won’t be bitchy in the morning.

…Or just be bitchy now. He’s not explaining this. Twilight walked into it- he can turn back and do that for him.

Twilight stops after a while, and Legend looks at him with a tilt of his head. The wolf turns to him, lowering his own head and letting out a boof. Legend hums, “We’ve arrived, then.” He mutters, hopping forward once and staring at Hyrule and Wild. “Your ride needs to transform, up and off.” He says with a wave of his paw.

Hyrule lets out a sigh, getting a good grip on Wild then fluttering his wings and flying towards Legend. Legend half expects Hyrule to keep flying- to wait for Twilight to transform so they can settle in his hands- but he does not.

Instead, Hyrule promptly places Wild into his paws- and Legend, unprepared for this- fumbles to make sure he doesn’t drop Wild or even jostle him awake.

…..

He stares down Hyrule, who stares back with his arms crossed and a certain look in his eye- as if daring Legend to question it.

Legend does not. He’s too tired to deal with Hyrule’s healer attitude. Instead he lets Wild burrow his face into his fur and holds him as securely as he can with his paws.

“...You two done?” Twilight’s voice startles them both and they look over- they didn’t even see him turn back.

The rancher lets out a small laugh when Hyrule gives him the same look he gave Legend, and crouches down as to whisper to them both. “I’ll stay quiet. I’m worried about him, too. But, y’all know I trust you guys to take care of him- as much as I’d be happy to hold em.- I think it’s best if I go forward and explain this to the others. I don’t want em to wake him, hm?”

Hyrule’s wings flutter in approval, “Exactly what I was thinking. So everyone is around here?” He questions, putting his hands on his hips.

“Mhm. I smelt em’ all up ahead. They’re headin’ for Ordon village, which is good.” He has a fond smile- obviously happy to be home, but then he frowns. “I should probably’ catch up with em quickly. Don’t want my family to trap me right away, heh.”

Hyrule nods, waving one of his hands. “Hurry then, we’ll be close behind but out of sight.”

Legend nods in agreement, and Twilight stands- turning away and taking on a sprint forward.

Hyrule and Legend don’t immediately follow, instead watching Twilight stop ahead and wave off to the side with a bright smile- then disappear past some trees.

“..Are you still burnt?” Hyrule questions then, in a bit of a meek voice that has Legend letting out a long breath of air.

As much as Hyrule gives attitude, he’s consistently worried- and it shows.

“Yes.” Legend hums, “Not as badly in this form. But it’s there.” His ear twitches, “I promise once we’re in a house you can look at them, okay? But I worry about you too. I don’t want you healing me and wasting energy when we’re not somewhere secure yet.”

Hyrule gives a small nod, then starts to flutter forward. Legend follows at a slow pace, and resists rolling his eyes every time Hyrule sneaks a glance to Wild as to make sure he’s still sleeping.

Legend knew that some members of the chain would be laughing once they saw him- but to see them holding in their snorts somehow made the shame in his chest even worse. He ends up saying nothing to them, which also ends up cutting off those laughs immediately as Warriors and Wind specifically side-eye each other with a dread-filled look.

Yeah, a quiet Legend instead of one bitching is scary. He knows.

Hyrule’s glare probably didn’t help that much, Legend doesn’t know if that glare was for laughing at him or as to keep them quiet so they wouldn’t wake Wild.

Probably both, judging by Hyrule’s worried glances towards him.

Ugh. Ugh.

This really wasn’t the worst thing to happen. Alas, it still sucks.

Legend allows Hyrule to heal his burns once they’re at Twilight’s place- and after getting situated in some blankets and pillows, Legend is all too happy to shut his eyes and let the two fairies cuddle him like some stuffed animal.

Whatever. Feelings can be dealt with on a full night’s rest.

He didn’t even bother to touch the master sword yet, even with Sky offering it to him. No point in rushing to do it any more- the chain now all knew he turned into a rabbit. Whatever. He’s more comfortable sleeping like this anyways- his joints don’t hurt as much.

…That’ll probably change the more he gets older. Ugh.

He hears something along the lines of “If any of you wake either of them up, I don’t care if it’s even an accident- you’ll be eating rocks for weeks.” as he’s falling asleep from Hyrule, and- well, that certainly makes things a little better.

In the morning, he lets out a huff and stretches- grumbling something nonsensical. He blinks his eyes open, ear flicking and-

His eyes shift over when he realizes he was getting pet by very small hands, and he huffs again at Wild’s wide eyes meeting his own.

The fairy immediately starts to flutter his wings, chimes seeming very happy. Better than yesterday. Good.

He lets Wild hug his face, only for a moment though. He blows softly at Wild, and it’s enough to push him off of his nose. Wild does not seem bothered by this, simply moving over to Legend’s stomach and burrowing himself into his fur. More happy chimes follow.

Legend glances around to try and see if he can see where Hyrule is- as he wasn’t with him, and he blinks slowly when he meets Time’s gaze.

Time raises an eyebrow at him, then tilts his head a little down-

Ah. There’s Hyrule. Sprawled out and sleeping atop of Time’s head.

Not too surprising. Time was the ‘fairy boy’ for a reason. At least Hyrule was actually sleeping.

“He stayed up for about two extra hours just making sure you both stayed asleep.” Time hums in a quiet voice, “Which in hindsight was smart, because Wind came in here at some point to try and pet you. Hyrule put me on guard soon after.”

Legend rolls his eyes, “Right.” Legend stands up, making Wild whine and try to hang on- “Nuh uh, up and off.” Legend reaches at Wild with his paws, grabbing him and holding him to his chest. Wild pouts, tiny hands clutching at his fur.

Legend hops over to Time, then unclings Wild from his chest and holds him up to the man. “Take him, I need to go find Sky and get the embarrassment over with.”

Time snorts, crouching down as to take the whining Wild from him. Wild complains more with some rapid chimes, and Time plops him so he’s face down on his hand- laying on his stomach. When Wild tries to chime some more out in a pouty manner, Time raises a hand and scratches in the space between Wild’s wings.

Wild stops complaining, and instead melts into Time’s hand completely. He lets out a coo, face smooshing against the palm.

Legend is mildly impressed.

And later, much later, when Legend is no longer a rabbit- he’s walking alongside Hyrule and the rest of the chain.

All while watching Wild get passed around, and sometimes one of them would get scolded by Hyrule when they wouldn’t hold him properly- but other than that, Wild was letting out happy chimes all around.

…Good. Legend thinks again, crossing his arms. Despite the embarrassment that came from his rabbit form- he can at least say he didn’t feel unsafe at any point while in that position. He’s glad that Wild was as relaxed as he was, and that he was very likely not going to feel the same embarrassment he did.

He’s also glad they were all so approving after the initial teasing, for both his own sake and Hyrule’s.

Legend glances towards the traveler in question, and Hyrule looks back at him with a little, pleased smile.

Hm. Yeah, it was nice now that everyone’s damn transformation secrets were out of the bag now. Things felt a little less stressful.

….

…He sure does hope there weren’t… Any other secret transformations… Hm.

Legend turns a suspicious gaze over to Time, who was currently tossing Wild lightly over to Twilight back and forward, the fairy giggling madly every time he goes flying in the air.

…Maybe he’ll pull Warriors aside to start a quiet bet to see if anyone else comes out as turning into something.

….

He feels a certain way when he doesn’t even get a chance to process that thought when Four shrinks down into a minish and climbs Twilight- getting to his hands and standing on his palm all proudly with his hands on his hips.

Wild almost falls out of Time’s hands in order to get over to Four, the two immediately hugging once together.

Cute. But also.

Huh.

Legend turns to Hyrule, Hyrule is staring down Four- scratching his cheek in bafflement with raised eyebrows.

When Hyrule meets his gaze again, he just starts laughing.

Legend can’t help but snort back, putting his head in his hands.

“Hey… You two better not be laughing at me. I didn’t laugh at you, Ledge!” Four calls over in the tiniest voice ever.

“Nono,” Hyrule giggles, “It’s just… It’s always something new with all of us, huh?”

Four blinks, then also lets out a huff of a laugh. “It really doesn’t help that we all suck at keeping secrets.”

Wild chimes in agreement, then coos when Four pats at his head fondly. “Soo…” Four glances back at everyone, “Any clue when he’ll turn back?”

Hyrule shrugs when a few pairs of eyes look at him, “We already tried the master sword and it didn’t work. Which.. Um… May or may not mean that Wild has just had a fairy form this entire time and didn’t know about it until it was activated today?”

“...It could just be something that needs to wear off on its own? If it was a curse, I don’t know why the master sword didn’t work…” Sky looks sadly at the master sword on his back, and Legend rolls his eyes where Sky can’t see him.

Master sword can’t solve everything. Legend thinks a little spitefully.

“Well. If he really does just have a fairy form, he needs to be taught how to turn back! Right?” Wind turns, and points dramatically to Hyrule. “Fairy lessons. Go!

Hyrule blinks, then squints. “You just want to see me as a fairy again.”

Wind blinks back innocently, “....No.”

Warriors ruffles Wind’s hair, making him try to smack the man’s hand away. “With how air-headed Wild is right now, I don’t think fairy lessons are what we need.”

“Be nice to him.” Hyrule warns, pointing at Warriors in a threatening manner. “I was the exact same way when I first transformed. It’s hard to balance the fairy side of your brain and the hylian one.”

Warriors puts his hands up in defense, “Not being mean. Just honest. Do all fairies act like that?”

“Of course not-”

“Yeah.”

Hyrule and Time lock eyes.

“....I’m ignoring that, Time.” Hyrule looks away from Time’s sheepish grin, “No. New fairies- yeah, but the older they get the more they learn. Just like us. They work a little differently than we do, though. Especially with instincts.”

“Mhm… We have to consider different eras too though.” Warriors points out, wagging his finger. When Hyrule’s eye twitches, he slowly turns around, “..Or y’know. We could just ask Wild to try and turn back.”

“That’s not-” Hyrule pauses, then brings up his hand to his chin thoughtfully. “I mean. I guess?

Everyone looks to Wild, the fairy freezing under the mass amount of attention so suddenly on him.

Four does a backflip off of Twilight’s hand, turning back into his hylian form and crossing his arms with a grin. “Well?” He questions, and Twilight hums.

“Okay, Wild.” Twilight directs the fairy’s attention to himself, Wild having a pout on his face from Four flipping off. “Could ya do me a favor?”

Wild blinks slowly, the pout turning into a neutral expression as he flutters his wings.

“Think you can turn back into a Hylian for me?” Twilight questions, eyes flashing in amusement when Wild’s expression scrunches up as he thinks real hard.

“I don’t think he’s gonna-”

Wind is cut off by Twilight suddenly falling over with the weight of a Hylian instead of a fairy.

“..Are you serious?” Legend puts his head in his hands, “You’re joking.”

Hyrule pats at Legend’s back, while also looking quite amused.

Wild looks oddly content to just lay atop of Twilight, ears flicking at the man’s fond huff. “Alrighty, get off ya silly thing.” Twilight sits up, and Wild giggles- standing up and helping Twilight to do the same.

Everyone seems to look at Wild for any hint of embarrassment, and instead they get a rather soft smile and a little bow from him. “Thank you for taking care of me.” He whispers.

“Any time, Wild. We’re always happy to take care of you.” Hyrule says in a pleased manner, and you could almost hear a chime come from him.

This makes Wild’s flush a little, raising a hand as to push some hair behind his ear. “...Sorry for being a little… Air-headed. As Warriors put it. And Legend. It was weird being a fairy.. But, also- a lot of fun despite not being totally there mentally. I just wish I could’ve flown when I was like that.”

“I don’t.-” Legend lets out a sharp breath when Hyrule elbows him in the side, “Hey. You heard him- being air-headed and being able to fly? We would have never found him if he took off even once.”

Hyrule goes to smack him again and it makes them start playfully smacking at each other’s hands rapidly.

Wild snorts, shaking his head. “I’m serious. I do um…” He raises his hands to sign instead of continuing to speak as he finds his words, “I don’t know how I was a fairy or why, but it feels a little cruel that I can’t even use the wings that make being a fairy- a fairy.”

The play fighting stops, and Hyrule’s expression is all too soft. “I know. Hey, if you really can shift between the two forms- we can figure out something to help you fly. No promises, but…”

“I agree,” Legend says despite his earlier words, “Your wings looked torn- maybe we can find something to fill those spaces…” He looks thoughtful.

Wild simply smiles at them both, then that smile turns smug and makes a few members of the chain side-eye each other then look back at Wild suspiciously.

Sooo… You were really fluffy, Ledge.” Wild says this aloud, hands going behind his back innocently. “Can I get more cuddles next time?”

Legend’s eye twitches, and an equally twitchy smile comes across his face.

“You little shit-”
