Australians Are Everywhere (It's Their Country After All)

Summary:

There are times when Hidan really doesn't like being an omega.

But, sometimes, he doesn't regret it at all.

Notes:

Part of Australians are Everywhere, this story is my entry for day 4 of the 2024 Kisame Birthday Bash, for the prompt 'Happy Birthday Kisame!'

My apologies for the late submission!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

"Fucking hell!" Hidan grips Kisame's hand tightly, not caring if he's breaking fingers. In fact, he wishes he was breaking fingers but his alpha's knuckles are as sturdy as the rest of him. "When you asked if I wanted to take a holiday on the great barrier reef before the baby arrived, I didn't think you meant this!"

"I didn't mean it... but babies do what they want, when they want." Kisame rubs his back soothingly as he pants through another contraction. "Almost there, you're doing a great job."

"I had bloody well better be! Birthing on your birthday, this is gonna be your present every year for the rest of your life!" Hidan grunts as he feels his guts moving - even for him, accustomed to injuries as he is, it's a disconcerting sensation. "Come on baby, work with me!"

"She is, I can feel her crowning," Kisame's hand strokes between his legs, and not in the fun way. "Don't push, just breathe, let the contractions take it from here."

"I am breathing, what the hell do you think I'm doing -" Hidan lets go of his lover, doing his best to lie back and let the waves cradle him as he squints up into the sunny blue of the cloudless sky. "She'll be okay, right? Able to breathe and everything?"

"Thirty three weeks and her lungs should be fully developed, if somewhat small." Kisame grips his thigh reassuringly, and Hidan takes comfort from it. "She'll be just fine."

"Good, that's... good." Hidan jerks, straining, and tastes salt on his lips, not knowing if it's sea spray or blood. "Kisame!"

"She's here, she's fine." Kisame sounds calm, the way he always does when they're under fire, but there's an undeniable tone of awe underneath it. "Hidan... you did it."

"I did?" He reaches out, not caring about anything else, the lingering cramps and pain meaning nothing in the face of this. "Let me have her."

"Careful, keep her under the water." A single glance at her gills, fluttering rhythmically as they open and close, is enough to explain Kisame's caution and Hidan submerges himself. Like this, with the ocean all around them, it's obvious this is her natural home, just as it is Kisame's.

Kisame grins at him, sharp teeth on full display, and Hidan knows all over again that he picked the right alpha, the only person who could have helped him make this new life out of a lifetime of death.

Yeah, their baby isn't going anywhere.

The Australian paramedics on the beach can damn well wait.

On a completely different note, I set up a server on Discord for my writing and you can go poke me at Phlebas Writes.

Since I actually write directly onto the server, all the warnings for my stories apply to any content that may be found on there and I swear. Just FYI.

I'm also on Tumblr!
