Resistance Training

Summary:

Luz is particularly susceptible to cuteness. Ghost decides to work on that.

(See the end of the work for notes.)

Work Text:

Ghost steps daintily onto Luz’s lap, concentrating all of her weight onto one paw set exactly on a bruise from the weekend’s construction. Luz flinches and Ghost flicks her ears in displeasure.

“Of course,” Luz says, teeth clenched. “How rude of me.”

“Stop bullying Luz, you know she’s helpless against cute animals,” Amity scolds, picking Ghost up.

The palisman goes boneless, purring in agreement. Of course she is, that’s why Ghost’s doing it. It’s training.

“It is not.”

Ghost flips the tip of her tail noncommittally. Amity frowns at her and Ghost squints back fondly. Her witch is allowed to be kind, but that doesn’t mean Ghost is going to let things slide. Just wait until Luz avoids losing her toes to a púca disguised as a floppy rabbit or big-eyed squirrel kit; Amity will appreciate her efforts then. The human doesn’t have enough practice resisting such things. She slides out of Amity’s arms to stalk along the back of the couch, then perches adorably, waiting. Amity watches her suspiciously for a moment, but eventually relents and turns to ask the abomination to go fetch tea.

Ghost stands up again and stretches, tail winding around to tickle Luz’s nose. She sneezes and flails.

“Okay, stop it!” Luz objects, batting her tail out of range.

Ghost opens her eyes wide, round and limpid, and watches Luz crumble, face going wobbly. Then she smacks the human across the ear.

Luz jumps up, hands raised defensively and face forlorn. “What? Why?”

Ghost sighs.

So much training needed still.
