Birthday Cake and Kisses

Summary:

It's your birthday, and Dorothea wants to make sure you feel special today.

Notes:

I did Edelgard last year, so I figured why not do Dorothea this year? At this rate I'll get through all of the Three Houses girls by 2040. Enjoy!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Birthdays at Garreg Mach were normally pretty low-key. Usually, most people would simply leave their presents at the birthday person’s house, and they would give them birthday greetings if they saw them, but that was it. Anything more would be on a person-by-person basis.

So when your girlfriend Dorothea invited you over to the gazebo for a “surprise”, you didn’t really know what to expect. Tea dates were common, and the two of you have had your fair share of those, but she already told you this would be different.

Soon enough, Dorothea arrived, clearly holding something behind her back. Her bright smile instantly warmed your heart and put you in a good mood.

“Happy birthday,” Dorothea said sweetly, bending over to plant a kiss on your lips.

“Thanks, Dorothea,” you replied, gladly returning the kiss, “So what’s this surprise you wanted to show me?”

Dorothea gave you a flirty wink and brought out what she was holding behind her back. It was a small cake decorated with white frosting and a smattering of berries in the shape of a heart.

“Wow,” you gasped, “Did you make this?”

“Mmhmm,” Dorothea nodded, setting the cake down on the table, “Manuela offered to help, but I told her I wanted to do this myself.”

“But why?” you asked, “I thought you hated cooking.”

“I don’t hate cooking,” Dorothea laughed warmly, “I just don’t do it unless the one I’m cooking for is really special to me.”

Your face flushed bright red. Even though you and Dorothea had been dating for a few months now, you still blushed like a lovestruck schoolgirl whenever she complimented you or talked about how much you meant to her.

“I…thank you, Dorothea,” you stammered, at a loss for words, “I…I…”

“Shhh…,” Dorothea whispered, placing a finger on your lips, “Just try it.”

You were a little hesitant to take a bite of the cake. You loved Dorothea with all of your heart, but her cooking was, well, not very good, to put it mildly. Still, you could tell she worked hard making it, so you would at least try to be polite to your girlfriend.

To your surprise, the cake tasted okay. Not amazing or anything, but far from terrible. Dorothea seemed to be slightly on edge when you tried it, but let out a sigh of relief when you gave her a thumbs-up.

“Nhhot bahhd,” you murmured, your mouth still full of cake.

“Don’t talk with your mouth full,” Dorothea giggled, “But I’m glad you think it’s okay.”

She sat down next to you and wrapped an arm around your shoulders while you ate.

“Do you want me to sing you a birthday song?” she asked.

“Oh, yes please,” you nodded. Unlike her cooking, you would never even think to turn down a song from Dorothea.

Dorothea cleared her throat and started singing “Happy Birthday” in the most over-the-top operatic voice imaginable. It was somehow both the most hilarious and the most awesome thing you’d ever heard, and you loved every second of it. Once she finished, the two of you fell into a fit of giggles as you pulled her into a tight hug.

“That…that was amazing, Dorothea,” you giggled, “Thank you for everything.”

“Don’t mention it,” Dorothea laughed, “Only for you, my love.”

She tackled you off the chair and onto the grass, where she pinned you down and started passionately kissing you over and over. You didn’t know if anyone else was around to watch, and you didn’t care. If this was how you and Dorothea would celebrate your birthday from here on, you wouldn’t have it any other way.

Notes:

Dorothea is wonderful, isn't she? She may not be able to cook well but she loves you so much she'll try anyway.

Next up is Juri!
