Work Text:
Tanjiro:
Tanjiro walked up the mountain, trudging through the snow. He couldn't wait to get home and see his siblings. He had wanted to get home earlier but old man Saburo had refused to let him go up the mountain at night. Suddenly his thought were interuppted. "look brothers back" Tanjiro turned to see hanako and shigeru carry a basket of food. "Did you sell the charcoal?" Hanako asked. Tanjiro smiled, his exhaustion leaving him. "I did and guess what I brought goodies just like I promised". His siblings cheered and Tanjiro laughed as he went to help them carry the basket in. It was hard sometimes, trying to fill his fathers shoes but those smiles made it worth it and later as he sat eating rice crackers with his sibling he knew he wouldn't trade this life for anything.
Inosuke:
"Mother, it's time to go" Inosuke called. "Coming" she called as she entered the room a veil covering her face. The sight of the veil made Inosuke frown. A long time ago his father had beaten his mother to a pulp and even though she had manage to run away and get help, her face had been permanently scared. It hurt knowing what his mother had endured in order to keep him safe. Now that he was older, Inosuke was determined to protect her. "Mother you don't need to wear that it doesn't matter what you look like". Kotaha laughed " Inosuke, I have to look nice or I won't get any customers". This made Inosuke frown even more. After they had escape from his monster of a father his mother had gotten a job as a singer in the entertainment district. Her beautiful voice brought in a lot of money. But Inosuke hated that the others shamed her because of the scars. One day he was going to get a good job and earn enough money to give his mother the life she deserved.
Zenitsu:
Zenitsu wiped his brow as he harvested the peaches from the trees. "Its too hot. Can we please take a break" he sobbed. "Oh will you shut up" kaigaku scoffed "we will never get this done if you keep whining like a baby". From underneath the tree gramps sighed " Zenitsu, Kaigaku's right. Besides you the one who wanted to repay me for saving you from your debt so stop whining". Zenitsu sighed " Sorry Gramps, I promise I will try". At this Gramps smiled "Tell you what if we get this done by nightfall, I make you guys a special desert". Zenitsu lit up "Really, all right". Determination renewed, Zenistu work even faster and despite how much he hated the work he had never been happier.
Sanemi:
"Mother!" Sanemi smiled as his little siblings rushed to their mother's side. " What are you still doing awake? you should be asleep" their mother exclaimed. "We wanted to wait for you so Nemi let us stay up" Sumi told her. "Well I am home now so lets get you to bed". Sanemi watched as his mother tucked his siblings in to bed. "You too, Sanemi" she said looking at him. "you first mother, I can get the kids asleep, you must be exhausted". "I am fine Sanemi you go ahead and sleep". Sanemi sighed. It hurt seeing his mother so exhausted. Especially when she wouldn't let him help. But soon thing would change. At thirteen he was old enough to work and once he found a good job he would make sure his mother never had to work another day in her life. Genya stared him in understanding from his futon. This made him smile. Because he knew that he could count on Genya to help him. The two of them together would protect this family. No matter what.
Shinobu:
Shinobu walked happily with her family as the four of them walked home from the market. Kanae was excited because she had found a pretty butterfly haori tha matched her hairpins. Shinobu thought it was silly but she loved it when her sister was happy. Suddenly Kanae's voice interupted her thoughts. " Father look, why is
that girl tied up". Shinobu looked to where her sister pointed and saw a bald man pulling a little girl by a rope that was tied around her waist. The little girl was dressed in rags and looked like she hadn't been bathed in years. "Oh the poor thing" her mother exclaimed "dear we have to help her". " Can we father" Shinobu pleaded. The thought of such a little girl being treated so horrible made her blood boil and she refused to let it continue. " Of course" his father agreed. A few minute later after a argument with the bald man the little girl was wrapped in their fathers haori as he carried her to their home. Shinobu was excited. She had never had a little sister before and she couldn't wait to show this girl how amazing their family was.
Obanai:
Iguro sighed as he walked home from his job in town. It was exhausting and he couldn't wait to get home and read the letter he had received from Kyojuro.
The thought of his adopted younger brother brought a smile to his faced. His real family had been criminals who had mistreated him constantly. At twelve he had escaped and exposed them to the police. Afterward he had been placed under the care of the rengoku family and he finally had a real family he could be proud of. Kyojuro and Senjuro were the nicest people he knew and while their father had never quite recovered from the death of their mother, Iguro still trusted him to take care of them. Suddenly a girl appeared out of nowhere and bumped in to him. " Hey watch where you go.." Iguro started but stopped when he noticed she was crying. "Are you ok" he asked. The girl looked at him still crying. She had beautiful green eyes with beauty mark under both of them and the prettiest pink hair that faded to green at the tip. "She's beautiful" he thought. " I am so sorry" the girl said tears still falling from her eyes "I am so clumsy and wasn't paying attention and.." she paused collecting her thought. "It's all right" he assured her. "May I ask you name". The girl blushed " Oh my name is Mitsuri Kanroji What yours". "My name is Iguro Rengoku" Obanai told her. He had long ago stop using his old family name. "May I ask why your crying Mitsuri". Mitsuri burst into sobs " My engagement was called off and now I will never become a bride because my hair a stupid color and..." "Wait who said your hair is stupid" Iguro asked shocked that someone would say that. "The man I was supposed to marry" she sobbed. "Well he's stupid I think you hair is beautiful. If he can't see that then he doesn't deserve you anyway". At this Mitsuri stopped crying and stared at him. "You really think so Iguro, you are too kind". He laughed " I am just telling the truth come on I will walk you home". Several hours later Iguro finally got home. He had spent the afternoon with Mitsuri and her family. He hadn't belived that anyone could be nicer the Kyojuro but the Kanroji's seemed determined to prove him wrong and he had enjoyed himself. As he sat down to answer Kyojuro's letter he ended up telling him all about it.
Gyomei:
Gyomei sat at his food tray listening to his children talk happily to each other. The happiness in their voices made him smile. Because he was blind he picked up on the tones of people voices a lot more then others. It was how he had known something was up several nights ago. He frowned thinking of that night. Kaigaku, one of his children had run away. According to the others he had been stealing money and when they confronted him he had fled. It broke his heart to know that one of his children could be in trouble and he prayed every night that kaigaku would be safe and find happiness even if it wasn't with them. However he couldn't focus on kaigaku. After all he had eight other children that needed him so he would focus on what he did have instead of what he had lost.
Giyuu:
Giyuu stood in the market place trying to find the ingredients his sister needed for dinner. After some searching he found everything he needed and began heading home. But as he walked around a corner a man suddenly grabbed his basket and took off running "hey stop thief" Giyuu cried as the man ran off with his basket However the man didn't get far before he was tripped by a boy with strange pink hair. "Ha take that thief, not much a man are you" the boy cried as he grabbed the basket and quickly bought back to him while the adults handled the thief. "Here you go" he stated holding out the basket. Giyuu took the basket and bowed "Thank you". The boy smiled "My names sabito, I just moved here what's yours". "My name is Giyuu Tomioka". Sabito smiled "Nice to meet you, are you here by yourself". "Yes my sister normally comes with me but she just got married and is super busy so today it's just me". Sabito nodded before turning back to his parents "See you later Giyuu don't run into anymore thieves". This made Giyuu laugh as he he made his way home. Afterwards he told his sister about it and he and Sabito became great friends.
