Work Text:
Dean and I were on our way back to the bunker after a typical hunt, when Dean says “Damn country music. Put a tape in?” The sound of Jason Aldean “She's Country” filling the Impala.
“No.” I say in a teasing defiant way. Dean looks at me confused, “I love this song!” I exclaim, turning it up and starting to sing along, smiling.
As the song comes to an end Dean states, “I didn’t know you liked country music.” smiling at my antics.
“I grew up in a small hick town, obviously I like country music.” I laugh a little at him.
“And you coincidentally knew all the words to that song?” He questioned teasingly.
“It used to be one of my favourites. Still is.” I smile cheesyly at him.
“What about this one?” He turns the music back up as another song starts.
I listen to the song till just before the first chorus, singing it, before saying “This is Dust On The Bottle by…” I pause for a few seconds, listening some more. “David Lee Murphy?” I say, stretching out his first name, unsure if I am correct. “Not sure though.”
“That’s better than I could’ve done, I couldn’t’ve given you a name at all.” He says.
“Good point.” I let the sound of the music fill the car again, looking out the window. After a couple minutes I suggest we pull over to look at the stars.
“No way. Not happening.” Dean responds.
“Why not?” I ask.
“Because I’m the driver and I said so.” He fires.
“Have you ever been stargazing?” I shoot back, knowing he hasn’t.
“No. And I’m not going to start now.” He says.
I scoff and say “You say that like stargazing’s a bad thing.”
“It sounds boring, all you do is look at the sky.” Dean tries to defend himself.
“You need to try new things.” I state, Dean scoffs at me. “You do need to try new things, and also, it’s not just ‘looking at the sky’ it’s admiring the awesomeness that is the stars.” I try to convince Dean.
“I can see the stars perfectly fine from here.” Dean grumbles.
“Yeah, but you can’t admire them properly from here. C’mon try it. Just this once.” I continue to try to convince Dean.
“You won’t stop until I say yes will you?” He asks, already knowing the answer.
“Nope.” I say, popping the ‘p’ and smiling.
“Alright, fine.” He concedes, pulling the car over beside an empty grass field.
I cheer quietly and kiss his cheek then get out of the car. I walk a little ways into the field and plop myself on the ground, lying down to look at the stars. “I haven’t done this in so long.” I smile at the sky.
“So what, you just lay in the wet grass and stare at the sky like I said?” Dean snarks.
“No. Just get your ass down here and you’ll see.” I say and Dean listens, laying on the ground beside me and holding my hand.
“I think I see it now.” He says while looking at me, smiling.
“You’re a dork.” I sit up, smiling at his cheesiness.
“Yeah, but you love me.” He grins at me, also sitting up.
“I do love you.” I kiss him and he kisses back, deepening it.
