Work Text:
The blue light faded as Addison leaped into a body.
She took a minute to look around her surroundings. It looked like she was sometime in the 40s, maybe? Not where she would have preferred her first leap to be, but now wasn't the time to be picky.
They had done it. Ben was home. And she...
"Ben?"
Addison's heart sank. This wasn't supposed to happen. Ben was supposed to leap home. Wait, don't jump to what she thought this meant, maybe he was in the Imaging Chamber in the present. Yes, maybe when they switched, he was the hologram now.
She both hoped this was and wasn't the case. But judging from the look on his face before he saw her, she had a feeling she knew what the answer was.
"No, what are you doing here?"
Ben turned around in shock. "Addison?"
Upon seeing a man bump into her and realizing she was there physically, he ran to her. "Addison!"
They slowly walked up to each other and reached out, they touched hands.
Addison and Ben stared at each other in shock, pulling each other into a hug. This was the first time they had felt each other's touch in five years. She had forgotten how warm, how gentle, how good it felt.
"Oh, I missed you so much," she breathed.
"Just don't let go, okay?" Ben asked.
Addison nodded. "I won't."
Once they finally pulled away from each other, they looked at each other in confusion.
"What happened?"
"I-I don't know–"
"Let's just say things got a little ca-ca."
Ben and Addison spun around in shock. In front of them was a very familiar-looking man. One they had only seen from pictures thirty years ago, but it was unmistakably him.
"Sorry, not my words," Sam Beckett chuckled. "I just couldn't resist."
"You're... you're Sam Beckett," Ben finally said.
Sam smiled. "Well that's a name I haven't heard in a long time. I've heard a lot about both of you. Dr. Ben Song and Captain Addison Augustine. Your team filled me in on everything you've done. I'm a big fan of your work, I have to say. I'd offer to shake hands, but..."
Sam held up his hand only for it to pass right through Addison's.
"You're a hologram," Addison gaped.
"Yep," Sam looked a little sheepish. "I'm sorry about that, by the way. The code was meant for you. I guess it must have pulled me in somehow." After sighing, he held up the handlink. "Well then, I guess we should see what Ziggy says you're here to do?"
Addison and Ben could only stare speechlessly at the gray-haired man in front of them.
"I think the word you're looking for is 'oh boy.'"
