Chapter Text
That morning Esther shifts in place, her weight balanced from one leg to the other as she waits for her pups to finish getting ready. She had already called out to them twice, but still received the same reply of ‘just a sec’.
She turns to Murray, his hands falling to her shoulders as he offers a comforting squeeze. The New Jersey pack alpha fitted them into their busy schedule today and the last thing she wanted was for them to make a bad impression by showing up late.
Esther takes a breath, reaching up she pats the back of her mates palm in appreciation, a sigh of relief follows at the sight of her pups finally trailing out of the hotel room dressed and ready.
She clicks the button to the elevator before anyone can claim they’ve forgotten something. The older wolf waits until her pack is piled into the rental car before speaking the same instructions she had been repeating days prior.
“You will be on your best behavior, remember the Addams family will be present as well and we don’t need the New Jersey alpha to label us to the other packs as disrespectful or embarrassing.”
She gave a curt nod after receiving a variety of ‘yes’ and ‘ok’.
As they began driving Esther could feel herself growing anxious, the closer they became to the forest the more she found herself tossing glances into the rear view mirror to check on Enid.
She could read that her runt was panicking internally with the way she twirled claws between her fingers.
Enid fought to control her breathing, reciting the technique she would use during her therapy session to measure her breath.
However, it only worked so much compared to her thoughts which were running wild, her mind was leaning more and more into possible worse case scenarios, like what if the Addams reject her after the trials. What if Wednesday realizes she really is too inexperienced as a wolf and wants nothing to do with her.
What if…
Enid feels herself jostled from her thoughts at the sudden stop. Her mint blue eyes blinking as she takes in the various pack mates outside the building, standing in the center is an older male, she can’t help but feel like he could be in one of those ridiculous hallmark movies. Though she keeps the comment to herself as she follows her brothers out of the car.
“Pack Sinclair,” he greets, his gaze trailing along the family until he lands on Enid. “You must be the infamous blood wolf.” His eyes stare into Enid’s, calculating as he observed her for any exterior tells that would grant him an instant display of her character, only to be met with a nervous smile.
Esther allows him to observe her runt and their pack, before witnessing him call someone over, he murmurs something to them that she can’t gather but doesn’t dare to voice her concern yet.
“If you all would follow me this way, the Addams are waiting.”
Enid trails behind a few feet away from her pack, her attention drawn to the various pack mates socializing amongst themselves.
Her eyes notice the heads of the Addams seated posture perfect in a secluded area, the married couple oblivious to the approaching guest as they express their amour to one another. Further behind she noticed the dark shadow hidden perfectly above the trees, a thrum within her wolf at recognizing the individual.
Her steps rush out, little to peer at the high branches, a wide smile at the raven perched up high,
“Willa, you came.”
Enid jumps at the voice behind her from the older witch, Morticia’s hands land directly at her shoulders.
“Yes, we requested she not intervene while present so you may display your full potential.”
“But I thought the trial was to see how well I work alongside the Addams.” Her gaze directed at the new Jersey pack alpha watching her. He doesn’t offer any form of approval or denial to her curiosity instead motioning towards another area where everyone begins following him.
Enid bites her tongue, composing the annoyed growl she want to express at his dismissive behavior.
Her focus wanders back to Wednesday who had come down from the tree, to accompany the pastel girl to the destination.
Unknown that their own interactions and behaviors are noted towards Enid’s potential standing in the pack.
