Imagine: Do You Know That My Heart Is Filled With You

Summary:

Mio and high school and Kagura

Notes:

Song: Imagine by Brooklyn

Work Text:

It was weird, sometimes, to be one of five people who already knew what it would be like to be twenty, when all they were was fifteen. Freshmen at high school, with tests and clubs and all else that came with high school.

Including, of course, high school drama.

“So, Mio, you sure hang out with Tokashiki-kun a lot,” Tanaka said casually. “He definitely likes you.”

Mio resisted the urge to roll her eyes.

“No, didn’t he say he had a boyfriend?” Ikumi interrupted. “Cause some of the guys were bugging him about Mio too, and he said he did have a crush on her, before, but now he has a boyfriend, some childhood friend or something.”

“What? No one told me that! Mio, did you know that?”

“...I mean, yeah. We’re all best friends.”

“Damn. I thought you two would be cute together.”

This time, Mio couldn’t resist rolling her eyes.

“Do all the girls at your school talk about couples, too?” Mio complained later, picking at the muffin Kagura’s dad had given her once she walked into the Izumi bakery.

“Sometimes, yeah, I don’t get it!” Kagura said. “How many times can we say the same thing about the same people??”

“Thank god, it’s not just me.”

“Plus, since Hikari came one time, they all think he’s my boyfriend, even though he said he doesn’t like anyone romantically!”

“At least it’s better for you, since Tokacchi goes to my school too but Hikari doesn’t go to yours.”

“Ooooo that must suck!”

“And you know that if I tell them about you they’ll just be even more annoying!”

Kagura nodded sympathetically. She had accepted that Mio didn’t want their love life to be super public with ease and didn’t mind keeping it a secret from most people.

“Kagura, come help please,” Kagura’s dad called.

“Coming! Ne, you want to go see a movie tomorrow?”

Mio considered if she had plans or homework and found that she was free. “Meet here?”

“Yeah!”

Mio nodded, and Kagura beamed.

That smile would be the death of Mio if she wasn’t careful.

“That was soooooooooooooooooooooooo good!” Kagura said once they were out of the theater, bouncing herself so she could put her arm through Mio’s.

Privately, Mio thought it had gotten a little silly by the end, but since Kagura had liked it so much, she couldn’t help but smile.

“Hey, some of the girls in my class said there was a cafe near here that’s supposed to be pretty good, want to check it out?” Mio asked, knowing that Kagura would be thrilled that Mio was initiating something. Not that Mio didn’t want to, but it was odd, sometimes, actually being a teenager and having teenage feelings when she also knew that all of it was temporary and she’d be twenty before she knew it.

“Ooooo let’s go!”

Still, as the two made their way there, arm in arm, Mio thought that it was all going to be worth it.
