Chapter Text
Kuro was bored. He had called Chiaki 3 weeks ago, and never gotten a response. Maybe he was busy. Who knows, who cares, right?
Wrong. Kuro wanted to try and reconnect with this masked stranger he was so obsessed with learning about. Reconnect is a harsh word for a guy you met once, he thought. Maybe just connect.
Kuro set about trying to locate this mysterious man. The last thing he wanted to do was come off as desperate (which he already had, he thought), so he decided to do some research. He looked up Chiaki’s name on Facebook. In a bit of a shocking twist, Chiaki had no Facebook profile!
In order to clear his mind, Kuro went for a walk. A very long walk. Across town, even. It was late, about 2am. He wandered around, trying to see if anywhere was open. He wanted to get a snack.
He came across a lonely looking store, the brick exterior dark and not interesting compared to the rest of the dimly lit street. A single light on the inside of the small shop was on, the door wide open, as if waiting for him.
Kuro made his way across the street and entered the store. He looked around a bit, checked the money in his wallet. He had enough for one snack. Chips or candy…
Suddenly, he heard the creak of a door he hadn’t seen previously. A blue haired man walked out, about his height. He smiled vaguely at Kuro and stood behind the register. Kuro noticed the man and awkwardly waved back at him. Where did that door come from…?
Kuro, after intense decision making, chose a bag of gummy candies and made his way to the one checkout. He placed the bag onto the counter.
“$1 please, Kuro,” the strange man said to him.
Kuro stopped. “How do ya know my name..?” he asked cautiously.
He only smiled in response. So. Damn. Creepy. Kuro forked over the dollar and took the bag of candy, leaving hastily for the exit.
“Kuroo… you should know something,” the blue haired man said ominously, still behind the counter, his demeanor unwavering.
“…Whaddya want.”
“I heard you know Chiaki~”, the guy said, nonchalant as ever.
Kuro stopped dead in his tracks. What? How? How does this dude know his name, much less Chiaki’s...
“Okay, this’s gettin’ too weird for me. You’d best tell me what yer talkin’ about.”
Kanata smiled and ignored him. “I know you have complicated feelings towards him. I think you two would be nice together.”
Kuro had had enough of this guy’s nonsense. He left the store, his face redder than his hair.
Defeated, Kuro clutched his bag of candy and headed home. The whole interaction made his brain hurt. Who was that guy?!

Chiaki was bored. His next acting gig wasn’t until the following week, so he had a bit of down time. He decided to check his notifications, as he was never on top of them. Nothing on Twitter, nothing on Facebook… oh, one voicemail?
He clicked the app and clicked the voicemail. It was from 3 weeks ago, sent from a number he didn’t have saved in his phone.
“Uhh… wait. Nevermind. I dunno what to say… sorry. How do I delet-“
…What? The voice on the other end sounded familiar. He wasn’t sure from where, though…
Should he call the number back? Chiaki contemplated this for a while. He really wanted to know who had called him, but at the same time he was uncharacteristically nervous.
After a long internal debate, he decided to call the number back. It rang once, twice, three times… voicemail. Well, of course he wouldn’t pick up. It was 2 in the morning.
Chiaki cleared his throat and spoke into the phone: “Hello, this is Chiaki! I noticed I had a voicemail from this number, but I don’t recognize it! If you wanted to call me back, feel free to!”
He ended the voicemail and turned his phone off. He couldn’t get the voice out of his mind, it was so familiar yet so out of his reach… hopefully he’d call back.
