Chapter Text
This was not what Nakahara Chuuya had planned when it was his turn for the patrol around the border. Although, Chuuya highly suspected that the scheming fish had something to do with this. Executives don't go on patrols like this, yet Dazai was very insistent that it was his duty tonight. However, it was farfetched that Dazai knew about some random kid from the outside world. He must have seen him snooping around through the cameras, and decided to make use of the situation. Chuuya will still ask him, not like he would ever get a straight answer.
Now, the issue was the kid that clung onto him and refused to let go. It was difficult to walk, so Chuuya used his ability to lift the kid of his legs and into his arms instead. The kid became less annoying in his arms, in fact, he seemed to be even happier. Ugh, he couldn't understand this kid.
"Hey, Mr. Fancy Hat! Was that your quirk just now?!" The loud kid looked at him with the most sparkliest eyes to ever exist. Cute. Chuuya had a feeling this kid wasn't usually this respectful to anyone, so he deduced that for some bizarre reason the kid admired him from the short interaction that they just had. Though, he was sort of irked with the name he was given.
"Call me Chuuya, kid." The kid looked like he was going to burst with excitement. The kid squeezed onto Chuuya's neck even harder and snuggled closer, as if he was trying to merge them together. Geez, this kid needed to learn to not act like this with every stranger he met. Didn't he know what stranger danger was? Chuuya could easily kill him if he wanted to. "Only if you call me by my name, too." The kid had a little sass on him too, which Chuuya liked. Huffing a laugh, Chuuya replied, "I don't even know your name, kid." Now he looked irked at the way the red head addressed him. His cheeks puffed up in an attempt to convey his anger. He probably thought he looked intimidating, but to Chuuya, his cheeks looked adorably like a cute squishy. "My name is Bakugou Katsuki! Don't forget it, Chuuya-san." He introduced himself to Chuuya with a glare. Chuuya looked on at the brave kid with amusement.
"Deal, Katsuki."
-------
"Where are we going?" Katsuki asked with a curious glint in his eyes he tried to mask with a scowl.
It was strange to Chuuya that a kid from the outside world was trying to act tough. Outside kids were nothing like the kids in Yokohoma. Especially kids in Yokohoma who had abilities. Those kids get the bottom of the waste barrel, if even that, like himself. Though it would be foolish to overlook the fact that shitty people are everywhere. Whether within Yokohoma, or the outside. If Chuuya had to guess, Katsuki had shitty parents. He seemed to be a head-strong kid with the confidence that, in due time, could rival that smug detective bastard. From his initial insight into Katsuki's personality, Chuuya could see that school bullies weren't the problem. Otherwise, he would have been a lot more meek and nervous. If the problem didn't come from external issues, then the issue was undoubtedly at home. The exact issue though, Chuuya had no clue. This was where his shitty Boss would pipe in to call him a slug for being so slow. Shivers crawled down Chuuya's spine with the realisation that he had Dazai's voice in his head. Speaking of....
"We're going inside. I'm taking you to meet my shitty slimey Boss."
"WHOA! We're going inside Yokohoma?! Today is officially the best day of my life!" Chuuya thought that was quite the bold claim to make. Didn't the outside world teach their kids that monstrous villains romed around the streets shamelessly? No sane kid would happily want to enter Yokohoma. In all fairness, the government's intent to harm them with harsh propaganda was a blessing for the city. It kept people away, and that's what Yokohoma wanted. Which is why Chuuya was surprised by Katsuki's eagerness. Something wasn't right with him, mentally. Chuuya absently noted how Dazai would like this. Something he could exploit to his advantage somehow. Look, Chuuya never claimed to be like those sickening heroes. He was a mafioso dammit. Boss' orders were absolute. Especially Dazai's, Chuuya thought with a slight smile.
"Yeah." Chuuya absently replied to the kid's enthusiasm. "We're entering now." The executive warned the child, so he could settle down a little. Walking through the entryway the barrier opened up for him, and they both were officially in Yokohoma. The kid sat on his arm in awed silence. Even though both sides looked the same at the moment. Chuuya didn't understand this kid. A sleek black car awaited the executive in the clearing with a few mafia grunts surrounding the car, awaiting instructions. Chuuya didn't really need any grunts to accompany him, but that waste of bandages always insisted he take them to use as shields if worse came to worse. Chuuya gave him a good punch for that one. He knew it was Dazai's emotionally constipated way of trying to show he cared, but it didn't mean Chuuya had to like it.
"Chuuya-san!" One of the grunts called out, bowing. It had taken a while after Dazai became boss to get them to refer to the red head as they did before. Stupid mackerel was always interfering. Possessive bastard. "We're heading back. Send a message for someone else to take over." The executive ordered whilst entering the back seat of the car, another grunt holding the door open for him. "Yes, Chuuya-san!" The grunt bowed even lower. Throughout all this, Katsuki stayed quiet. Smart kid. Listened to his instincts. Another quality that was suitable for...nevermind. Dazai's opinions came first. Once they were safely situated in the car, the kid finally piped up again.
"What's your job?" Katsuki asked very carefully, a little cautious. Good. So he wasn't completely careless. He must have caught glimpse of the firearms they were carrying. Chuuya decided to be upfront and replied, "I'm a mafioso. Do you know what that is, Katsuki?" The kid's reaction to this information will show Chuuya whether he truly was depraved enough for the mafia. If not, then the sole goal will be to send him back home with his memories wiped. "I knew you were dangerous, Chuuya-san." The executive wolfishly grinned at him. "Yeah? Then why didn't you run?"
Now Chuuya just wanted to see if the kid was talking out of his ass. Katsuki was quiet for a while before he responded, "You are like me. And, I liked that I found someone like me. Out there, everyone is too happy. And, if you're not happy, there is something wrong with you. You could be strong and perfect, but if you're not happy, then you will never be good enough." He said this contemptuously, as if it was an established fact. Chuuya stared at the child. Now he understood. Bakugou Katsuki was an outcast to society. As much as he tried to act older, he was still a child. So he couldn't put into words what the exact problem was. The way he viewed that the problem was not himself, but the society he lived in was what kept him strong. This was the mentality that promised him a role in the Port Mafia.
Chuuya was excited by this response. He just needed to assess how far Katsuki would go to find a place to call home. "I still don't understand what that has to do with me, though." Funnily enough, Katsuki looked annoyed at Chuuya, as though the executive interrupted him. His attitude wasn't lost even though the kid now knew Chuuya was a mafioso. "I was getting there." He responded, voice laced with irritation. "As I was saying", voice turning somber once again, "I could tell you were dangerous, every instinct was telling me to run. But that would've been stupid, especially 'cuz you're stronger than me." Chuuya found this even funnier. It was easy to tell he was still a child since he thought the gravity manipulator surpassing him in strength was what determined Chuuya as strong. "But, even then, you didn't mindlessly attack me and even considered the reason about why I was there. You were super cool because you were like me, but you're not a hero. You were nice even though you could have hurt me. And now knowing your job, could have even killed me. I admire that, because it proves that I'm not the problem. It's them out there." Katsuki paused and then turned piercing red eyes onto Chuuya, "I want to be just like you. I don't care what I have to do for you to stay with me."
Damn. Chuuya thought. This kid was an actual psycho. How was he so attached already? Ready to do anything to be like him? The child was so deprived of attention that he wanted Chuuya, who he met not that long ago, to raise him. That was what made him perfect. Chuuya had now made his judgement about Katsuki. Fuck Dazai's opinion. All that was left to do was to meet Dazai and convince him to enroll the kid.
The car came to a stop. Outside the window were the looming towers of the company that was used as a front for the Port Mafia. A mafia grunt opened the door at Chuuya's side. "We're here." Chuuya announced so the kid could somewhat prepare himself. The gravity manipulator got out of the car and used his ability to bring Katsuki out too. Once he was out, the executive grabbed Katsuki out of the air and back into his arms, holding him with one arm which was a testament to the ability user's strength. Next stop, the Boss' office.
-------
"Chuuyaaaaa~~~~ you're finally back!" Chuuya had just stepped into the office and was already feeling the urge to beat the suicidal bastard. Despite his claims of hating pain, he sure loved encouraging Chuuya's aggressions against him. Chuuya stayed quiet and put Katsuki down onto the ground. The child stayed close, gripping the executive's trousers whilst looking cautiously up at the man sitting behind the desk. Chuuya knelt onto the ground and bowed, hat to his chest. A greeting full of respect for the Boss.
"Chuuya." Dazai softly but firmly called out his name. The executive took this as a sign to look up. He found the scheming bastard looking down at him with a face that conveyed so much pride. Dazai always looked at him like that even though he always made fun of the ginger-head for being his faithful dog. "You can stand up now." And Chuuya did. Now that the formalities between subordinate and Boss were over, Chuuya was ready to beat his shitty Boss. The strongest ability user narrowed his eyes at Dazai into a piercing glare and yelled, "Oi, you shitty Boss! What are you planning?" The smug bastard just smiled that sly smile of his that screamed 'a plan is in the works'. In that deliberate annoying tone of his, "How rude Chuuya~! My loyal dog didn't even check in on me and goes on yelling like the brute he is." Said dog just face palmed at his melodramatic Boss. Chuuya decided to cut to the chase so that Dazai would take this seriously. "I've found a new recruit." The mackerel's dramatic ass dissipated at once and his Boss facade was now in place. His dead eyes, devoid of any light, turned to the child clinging onto Chuuya's leg.
The ginger-haired man felt the kid squeeze his trouser leg tighter, hand slightly shaking with how tight his grip was. "Hmm, where'd you find him?" Chuuya rolled his eyes at the question, as if Dazai wasn't watching his every move. Chuuya demanded, "Don't play games with me. And don't ask questions I know you already know the answers to." The brunette just laughed at the only one he would allow to talk to him in that manner. The Boss just hummed once again and stared at the child with his unnerving lone eye. Chuuya didn't know what Dazai was thinking at that moment, but he was prepared to present his case for Katsuki's usefulness and what he could offer to the Port Mafia. Suddenly, the bandage wasting machine snapped his dark eyes to meet Chuuya's bright ones. "He can join." The executive sputtered in surprise. Just like that?!
Chuuya couldn't believe Dazai hadn't asked questions such as if the kid from the outside would even be able to handle the dark world he was about to enter. He must've already made his decision when watching them through the cameras. This meant that a plan was underway and Dazai had already started scheming before Chuuya even met Katsuki. He just couldn't figure out why and how the kid would play a role in the upcoming guaranteed chaos. But, Chuuya knows one thing for certain, and that is that the plan will not work without Bakugou Katsuki.
"I want Chuuya-san to be my mentor!" The kid suddenly shouted out. The executive was startled. Partly since Katsuki had been quiet this whole time, and partly because of his outrageous request. Very rarely do new recruits get put under the tutelage of an executive. Only if they are really special and have the potential. Moreover, Chuuya hadn't ever had a new recruit under his care! That's because Ana-san was more suited for guidance and Dazai was a possessive bastard. He stared at the kid in utter bafflement, not knowing how to tackle this situation. That was when Dazai decided to pipe in, "Who says you're good enough for Chuuya's mentorship?" The ballsy child glared back at the Boss. Chuuya sighed at this stand-off. Katsuki he could understand, but Dazai was so chidlish. He knew the bastard wasn't serious though, otherwise Katsuki wouldn't have the courage to face the mackerel. Sparks went flying out of the kid's hands and he shouted back, "I am good enough for Chuuya-san!" Whoa, Chuuya thought, so that was his quirk. Something explosive. Chuuya had to say that it suited the kid's brash personality. Though, if he was to be in the mafia, that quirk could not be used much with the type of work they did. Can't be bringing attention to the activities of the underworld. That meant that he would need to be extensively trained, physically.
The executive tuned back in as he saw Dazai's eyebrows subtly furrow in a show of his jealousy. Chuuya just rolled his eyes at the childishness. Dazai pouted a little, "Chibi-chan already seems to be thinking about the future of this noisy brat." Curse the bastard who can somehow read his mind. "Look, we can give him to Ane-san. I won't be good with this stuff." He felt more than heard the comically anguished gasp that left Katsuki's mouth. Since functioning words seemed to have left the kid's mouth, he just grabbed on tight to Chuuya's leg, refusing to let go no matter how hard the red head tried to shake him of. Begrudgingly, Dazai seemed to lean towards the side of putting Katsuki under his care. He didn't know what the game plan of his Boss' was, but Chuuya did not like how Dazai actually considered assigning someone under his wing. He never allowed it before, so what was special about Katsuki? The short man needed to remind himself to badger Dazai later when they got home.
The mackerel straightened himself out and went back to being the serious boss. "Chuuya, I will assign Bakugou Katsuki under your guidance and tutelage until the day he is able to operate alone. Do you understand?" The executive really wanted to argue and throw a small tantrum, maybe actually throw a few objects at him too whilst he was at it, but this was an order. And one thing you must do in the mafia, is to always follow the Boss' orders. So, Chuuya forced the movement of grabbing his hat, putting it to his chest, tilting his head down and answering, "Yes, Boss." The cheeky little punk let out a loud cheer and smothered Chuuya's poor leg with all his might. This just led to the gravity manipulator to, once again, use his ability to bring the kid into his arms. Why did he have a feeling this would be a daily occurrence from now on? Plus, the kid seemed to enjoy it way too much. Maybe Chuuya did too.
"What do we do about his parents?" Chuuya suddenly asked remembering that they haven't picked up an orphan for once. Furthermore, this kid is from the outside world. They've never recruited a kid with a quirk from the outside world. Katsuki was the first. The quirkless ones easily blended in due to the discrimination they faced out there. So, they had no qualms joining Yokohoma. But, even then, there weren't many from the outside. The executive had a feeling the kid's parents wouldn't let it go if Katsuki went missing, no matter how shitty they were.
"Don't worry. Leave them to me." Dazai answered with a chilling aura and a cruel glint in the eye not covered with bandages. Yep, still a sadistic bastard. Chuuya felt more than heard the inaudible gasp that left the kid's mouth. Right. They were still his parents. But, this was what the kid signed up for. As a small gesture of comfort, Chuuya lightly patted Katsuki's head that was stuffed into his neck. The ginger-haired man then asked the next question, trying to work out the technicalities of the situation. "How do we deal with his disappearance?" Dazai was practically drowning in jealousy and Chuuya had to fight a laugh. Oh, he was enjoying this. Maybe he should get the kid to live with them too. "He isn't disappearing." The executive looked at him questioningly. "Blehh, you're such a slug~~ obviously we need his presence in the outside world to exist so we can use him for a mission in the future!" Now the red head was alarmed at the depth Dazai had already planned for the future of this explosive kid. But, he trusted the boss and in his plans. The mackerel will tell him when the time comes. Won't stop Chuuya from nagging the suicidal freak about it later.
The gravity manipulator had heard enough and knelt to the ground to bow once more, Katsuki still in his arms. Although the boss grumbled a bit, he dismissed Chuuya with the wave of his hand. As he was ready to sweep out the office, the red head offhandedly mentioned, "This kid is living with us now."
Since Dazai couldn't see his face, Chuuya let out the most feral grin satisfied with the shouts from behind him as he left, "WAIT WHAT?! CHUUYA-KUN?? MY DEAREST?!? WHAT DO YOU MEAN???"
The child in his arms seemed the happiest about the outcome and was clearly looking forward to what the future held for him. Chuuya couldn't help the affectionate smile directed towards Katsuki, who he was still carrying in his arms.
Off to the side, a mafia grunt assigned to the duty of guarding the corridor outside the Boss' office thought, Yep just another day.
