Work Text:
will you remember my face?
for it is still yours
just distorted, changed
the monster i will become to save you
must first possess me
if you are ever to leave
these concrete walls
and cold metal chains behind
will you remember me
as i will always remember you
you as my religion, the one i live for
me as your savior
the one who reached out
who fell from heaven
to sew your wings back piece by piece
will you remember my name?
though it is that of a dog’s
it’s the only proof i’ve ever existed
so hold it close and keep this safe
in the deep recesses of your memories
and trust me when i say
for you
i’d do anything
anything for you, i’ve always said
a monstrous outstretched hand
i’ll lead you to salvation
i’ll trust you’ll be fine without me
i’ll trust that i’m just a dog, a monster
that you’ll be glad to leave behind
and i’ll be glad to stay put
chained to a post
forever until an ending
will you remember what i did?
will you hate me for this
even though i just wanted to protect you
it hurts a little, but it’s alright
your smile is more important
than anything of mine
as long as your heart remains intact
and your lips curve back
into a real, true smile
this sacrifice is worth it
it’s worth anything i can give
it’s priceless
and i would pray to you and for you
but someone like you
so pure, so holy
wouldn’t dirty your hands for a monster
just like me
will you remember that i ever existed?
aside from the times i appear
and you go back to sleep
wondering what you’ve done
because to you, everything is your fault
a holy being
carrying all these sins and punishments
the weight crushing you further
but you march on
you’re pure
an angel come down to earth
you have nothing to fear
when you’re greeted at heaven’s gates
with the salvation you hoped for
will you remember what i tried for you?
it’ll never work
i still exist against my will
do you think i’ll be reborn one day
as someone else you like?
so, it’s just me and you again.
