Work Text:
Peter stared off into the sky, covered by a blanket of darkness. Rose was asleep on the bed in the other room. If she wasn’t around, this would be an easy decision, He’d say yes to President Travers’ offer and become a Night Agent. But life wasn’t that simple, life threw him a curveball and gave him everything he ever wanted and more - Rose Larkin.
Peter knew what she would say, “take the job Peter, its what you always dreamt of.” But now it seemed as though his dreams were changing. The dream he was currently chasing was one that he’d only known for a week, that was currently sleeping in his bed, wearing his shirt.
He thought he knew what love was when he was with Zoe, but he was wrong. Rose has been everything he never knew he wanted. Sure, they have a bond forged from trauma, but something about her is different. She believed in him, even when the world didn’t. She has had his back in a way that no one ever has before.
He’s still breathing on this Earth because of her. He can’t imagine leaving her now, he wouldn’t survive. All he wants more than some silly career goal is to be with her. To grow old with her, or at least have the chance to do that. They’ve been through so much together in the last week, he couldn’t imagine putting her through the trauma of not knowing where he is and whether or not he’s alive. To take this job would be selfish, and would be the worst mistake he could make in his entire life.
So while Rose still slept in the bed, he walked towards the island where his iPhone lay and he dialled the last number that called him, the oval office.
“Hello Madam President, its Peter Sutherland. I’ve thought more about your offer, and while I appreciate it, I think I want to take the civilian package you offered us.”
“Are you absolutely sure about this Peter?”
Peter turns and looks towards the room, staring at a sleeping Rose, which puts a smile on his face.
“Yes, I'm sure. Somethings are more important than being a Night Agent.”
“Like Rose?”
“Like Rose” Peter confirmed.
