You've got the love to see me through.

Summary:

Paul and Alan react to the moons breakaway.

Work Text:

The door quietly slid shut behind the two men, the small clunk

The constant electronic hum and occasional beeps were the only thing heard. A silence like no other took over the usually busy base. The news of the moon's departure from earth's orbit hung on everyone's minds, some stayed in control, watching as their earth, their home, slowly disappeared into the distance, others couldn't bear to watch.

Paul left control quickly, he wanted to stay, to watch, to comfort, to know what the plan of action was… but he had something important to do first. As he made his way through the long bleak corridors of moonbase alpha, he saw people crying, holding each other, looking up at the screens, saying one last goodbye to their old home, it was hard to imagine these dark, plain corridors were their new home. Paul tried not to think to hard about it as he made his way to the doors of the travel tubes, where he waited- no hoped, for a light, a sign someone was coming for him.

And the sign came, as he knew it would.

A small light, signifying someone was in the tube, coming his way. A small beep and the doors slid open.

‘Alan…You came back.’

‘I had to.’

‘You could have gone home. You could have saved yourself.’

‘Not without you, a life on earth isn't worth it without you.’ Alan said as he fell into Paul's arms, sighing.

‘I'm glad you came back, you should probably go see Commander Koenig.’

‘Not right now, I- I just, I need to take this in, in our room, with you.’

The two men began to slowly make their way to their quarters, in each other's arms, which was difficult with Alan's space suit still on. The collar making it hard for Paul to truly find comfort in his partner. When they reached their door, Paul reached for his comlock, pointing it toward the door, opening it. They entered, their bodies relaxing instantly now they were properly alone. The door quietly slid shut behind them, Alan began to get changed out of his space suit, as Paul sat, the words from the news report repeating in his head, their hope of earth saving them was fleeting, they were no longer earthmen, they were Alphans, and there only thing they could do now was survive. Paul sat on the bed looking out the window, hoping he could get a final glimpse of earth, but it had gone, he felt a hand on his shoulder then the bed beside him dipped.

‘Al…’ Paul said, turning to face Alan, who was staring out at the stars, he always loved looking at the stars, even before he started his work in space, he used to sit by the window of their apartment and just stare, it used to be full of love and interest but now it was full of sadness, his eyes glazed over, tears threatening to fall.

‘Don't… Say anything, I'm still trying to get my head around all this.’

‘I don't think we will ever get our heads around this.’ Paul said, his hand reaching to find Alan's, ‘We've all just lost our homes, our loved ones, everything…’

‘Well… I wouldn't say I've lost everything.’ Alan smiled, finally turning to look at Paul, squeezing his hand.

‘What?’

‘What I mean is, I haven't lost everything… I still have you, we have each other.’

Paul smiled, putting his spare hand around Alan, pulling him closer.

‘Yeah, we do, we always will.’

They sat like that for a moment, staring into each other's eyes.

‘Do we have to go back to main mission?’

‘I think they can manage without us for a while longer’

They grinned at each other, before Paul fell back on to the bed pulling Alan down with him, embracing each other on the bed. Alan kissed Paul's cheek, and then again, until Paul turned his head and kissed him on the lips. Despite the situation, in this moment they felt free, and in love. In the 12 years they had been together they had never experienced anything like this, it would test their relationship,

but they would manage..

They always do.
