Work Text:
Damian would like that the record shows that Richard was in fact not right. In fact let the record show that he has been right about nothing in the past, nothing in the present, and surely nothing in the future. Richard was accurate in a form that will never be shown on the record.
When Damian was convinced to do this by Richard he said that Galas brought out the best in people and sometimes the not so great part but mostly the best. Where he would apparently fit in more socially and that it Wouldn't be that bad Dami. And Come on! I don't want to be stuck with Tim all night acting like his mother. And Please Dami, please. And the straw that broke the camel's back Please I will take you and Titius with me for ice cream this weekend. Which was purely for Titus having an experience and not that he wanted ice cream. Not at all.
So Richard was clearly being deceptive when asking—correction, on the floor begging—him to come was mostly so then he had a scapegoat to get out of conversations. Everyone here in fact treated him worse the anywhere else they were treating him like he was a baby made of fine china.
The cooing and awning was something that made him want to bang his head on the wall nobody—well other than Alfred, Father, Richard, Babs, Cass, and (sometimes) Duke—could get away with doing that.
There is one thing he hates about this, it is not about how it was in the league or anything like that. He had grown out of that thank you very much. But it was because the way people here treat children in general is awful. It is as though we—see I have had some kind of growth Todd—do not have minds and needs other than food, water, and shelter like any other human being. Like space and privacy. And the fact that we do in fact have thoughts of our own.
Any idea of that would be fucking—sorry Alfred, Lord Todd has gotten to me to much. I might just start acting like an imblecual. Now that would be an absolute horror—insane thing to even think let alone express.
Now how does this relate back to the people intending at the gala? Well, they take this weird idea people have and just disrespect him at every corner. The cooing and awing the grabs for his little hands or cute hair ruffle is just mental.
When he tries to get away from these hands he gets scolded by the person who is not listening to him at all. Or they coo and say that he is so cute for trying to resist them and keep going for him! People say that he can't read people's social ques and yet nobody seems to be able to read his! Or maybe they just think that he doesn't deserve or have anything like that since he is a kid. Honestly, they treat children how they treat animals which is not good.
So, with all of this in mind it perfectly explains why he ran and hid under the table so people would stop going after him to treat him like some baby incompatible with literally anything. Damian noticed that Tim was coming over with a gaggle of people following him. Tim with his gaggle of people that follow him like he is some type of God. Honestly anyone who thinks Timothy is like that should get some help.
Damian couldn't help but have a very frustrated fleeing crawl into his body and mind. He was going to have a very long day, or probably better said night, yes he was going to have a really long night.
//////////////////////////////////////////
Tim could not help the smiles that were creeping onto his face. This was all too funny to him to keep in much longer. Everyone is acting as if this is to follow and most days he would find that annoying but looks that the others were giving the people doing this. Specifically DIck, he looks so funny with the shock on his face, that is probably more from the fact that Tim is putting up with this more than anything. Maybe getting—by a miracle of God—12 hours of sleep was worth it, maybe he was in a better mood because of it. Maybe he should do it more.
But will he? No. Tim, now having accidentally catch Alfred's face was about to bust out laughing. The butler Grandfather was giving the crowd of people surrounding Tim was priceless, he was usually so guarded with how his face reacts things, from being a spy and butler he has perfected it of course. But sadly Tim didn't get the chance to laugh because something ran full force into his legs.
Then there was like a flip of a switch when Tim laid eyes on Damian and his dejected look on his face. He then suddenly remembers words that Dick had told him back when he had first shown Damian to him, well more like the attempted murder case of Timothy Wayne.
**************************
"Why would I give him a chance Dick tried to kill me!" Tim yelled, feeling as though the most important thing was being left out of this whole shit show of the day. At this point Tim kinda wishes that he had died so he doesn't have to deal with any of this.
"Oh, your at this stage of your now impairment older brotherhood." Dick said like any of that made any sense at all. Grant it, it was better than the election that Tim thought he was going to get from Dick but still, what the hell does that mean. "Don't look at me like that, you will understand in due time. It happened to me with Jason and it happened to Jason with you. It will happen in all good time."
"What will happen?" Tim asks before he can think of what the hell is coming out of his mouth and wishes instantly that he just nodded and stayed silent.
"Well, I hated Jason and thought that I would love that thing that he took my place and that he was all that was evil in the world could be drawn back to him. And then he died and that was instinct kicked in. You know I killed the Joker for it right?"
"Wait what-"
"And then Jason did it with you! He hated you and thought that all his problems were from you and tried to kill but then one day he became protective of you! I think the first time was after you had a run in with the Joker. So naturally it will happen to you with Damian."
"Dick what the fuck-"
**************************
So this is what this feels like? Tim thinks to himself as he sees Damian and just stares at him. Tim briefly thought to tell Dick and Jason that he was sorry for everything that he has ever and will ever put them through, was he going to stop anytime soon? No. But still it is the thought that counts with these kinds of things especially when you have an entire family of crime fighters.
//////////////////////////////////////////
When Damian decided to quite literally run away from his problems he falls into the source of his problem. Timothy. Who is just staring at Damian as if he is having some sort of religious moment/awakening, which was something Damian personally did not want to have to watch or be a part of in any way. So standing up and continuing his run was what he was going to do then Tim just grabbed him and hugged him to his chest and excused them walking away to Heavens know where. Stunned into silence Damian is not sure what to do, this was quite literally the last thing he expected to happen.
//////////////////////////////////////////
"Look? See I told you it would happen at the gala! "
"Dick you forced Damian to come so this could maybe happen."
"Still I was right."
"Whatever."
"I love you."
"Gross."
