Chapter Text

Adrenaline

The gang has just won a preliminary fight against the Tiamat - the newest (D&D) villain to surface in Hawkins. Nancy went headfirst into battle and found herself almost in the balance between life or death until her girlfriend, Robin, steps in front of her and serves a final blow that keeps the Tiamat at bay for now.

Set after Season 4.

“I can’t believe you did that! How stupid could you be to come after me like that!” Nancy slams the door open with a bang as she storms into her house with Robin close behind.

“Babe, I’m not going to lie to you and say I’m sorry - maybe it was stupid - but it was the kind of stupid that saved your life.”
“But you almost died. It almost got you.” Nancy leans against the kitchen countertop, breathing hard.

“Hey, hey, Nance,” Robin takes Nancy’s hands in hers, brushing her thumb against the back of her girlfriend’s hands, “Nance, I’m okay . It didn’t even scratch me. We’re both safe.” Nancy finally looks up Robin for a moment before abruptly pulling her in for a hug, which Robin welcomes. They stay there for a moment before Robin hears a muffled voice coming from where Nancy’s head lays on her shoulder. Gently, the girl pushes her girlfriend off of her just a few inches, “What was that?”

Nancy sighs, and then, “I said, I really wanted to punch you in the face for that.”

Robin gently places her forehead on her girlfriend’s and replies with a smirk, “I would’ve taken it. You could punch me in the face and I’d still want you, not gonna lie. In fact, I’d probably want you more.” With that, she sees Nancy fight back a smile as she pushes her girlfriend away playfully, but even with fifty percent of Nancy’s strength on her, Robin still rubs her arms to shake away the feeling. Realistically, if Nancy punched her full-strength, Robin would be out for a week. While everyone outside of their group thinks that Robin’s the dominant protector, neither of them want to spend extra energy explaining how untrue that is.

Nancy looks up and maintains some space between her and her partner. “I still don’t like the fact that you didn’t even consider your own safety in that moment. The Tiamat is not something we can afford to mess with–”

“To be fair, the Tiamat was in fact a human woman, what, like two days ago? Her–its–strength is not something we completely understand yet.” Robin fights the urge to close the distance, but she knows that Nancy needs to process this all in her own bubble.

“Yeah, but Dustin explained this morning that the Tiamat is, like, number five on the most powerful D&D villains list. That’s only two behind Vecna. She could have done much worse.”

At this, Robin sees the distress in her girlfriend’s eyes and reaches to pull at Nancy’s pinkie with her fingers. “And thanks to you , she didn’t,” she waits for Nancy’s knowing smirk before continuing, “and besides, how could I not go sidekick mode when you were all hot-action-hero-Nance,” she reaches her hands around Nancy’s waist to splay on her lower back,” with your hair all messed up, firing a lethal weapon and in full protective mode? Damn, Nance. I had to fight or else I would’ve just been ogling you and that would’ve been worse for everyone.”

Nancy makes eye contact again and the energy tenses–in a much more fun way this time– “Action hero, huh?” Nancy teases, batting her eyelids and placing her palms on her girlfriend’s collarbone.

“Yeah, like full on Bonnie Bedelia if she was the hero in Die Hard,” Nancy surprised herself with a laugh against her girlfriend’s shoulder at her genuine comparison. When she finally looked up at her grinning girlfriend, she couldn’t help keeping a smile on her face. “There’s my girl.” Robin quipped, tightening her grip against Nancy’s back. Nancy hummed as her hands travelled up Robin’s neck to pull her jaw into a gentle kiss. They parted, and then Robin took advantage of the opportunity to up the ante.

The adrenaline of almost losing each other finally was getting to them in a different, vital way, and they couldn’t keep their hands off of each other. Nancy’s fingers tangled in Robin’s hair as the taller girl lifted her under her thighs to carry her to their countertop. Once seated on the counter, Nancy had a better angle to get at her girlfriend from. Their clothes ended up scattered along the path from the kitchen to the bedroom, and yet before they finally went to sleep, Nancy made sure to lock all of the doors on their path while Robin contentedly lay sleeping naked in their bed.
