Chapter Text
It was only now that she noticed the necklace.
The cold metal pressed against her chest, something that she was suddenly keenly aware of.
She pulled it out of her raincoat and examined it.
It was a gold ornate locket. Curiously, she cracked it open.
Inside was... A picture of her?
She was smiling in the photo, flanked by a man and a woman that seemed very familiar.
Looking closer, she realized that the man had her black hair and pointed nose and the woman had her pale skin and blue eyes bordering on grey. Were these her parents?
-
"Mom, what's inside your locket?"
Six's mom smiled at her, sitting on the bed. "You know what's inside my locket."
Six smiled back. "I am?"
"You are." Her mom opened the locket, showing her the picture. "You and dad and me."
"I want a locket like that someday." Six said, leaning in and admiring it.
Her mom snapped the locket closed. "Tell you what. You can hold on to it tonight, and when you're older, I'll give you this one."
"That exact one?"
"This exact one. When you're older." She unclasped the necklace and clasped it around Six's neck. She then stood up.
"Wait."
Her mom stopped.
"Don't leave. I feel like something... Bad is going to happen."
Her mom smiled. "Nothing bad is going to happen."
She gently pushed Six's hair back and kissed her forehead. "We'll see you in the morning. And until then," she tapped the locket. "This locket will keep you safe."
Six seemed skeptical. "How do you know that?"
"Because with this, we'll always be with you."
-
A tear fell on the picture, and Six realized that she was crying, overwhelmed by the sudden memory.
She stood up and wiped her tears, closing the locket. She was going to get back home, no matter what it took.

In the real world, the couple in the photo held hands as they walked up to a house.
The husband approached the door and gave three brisk knocks. It creaked open.
"Hello, Mrs. Cuervo, we're Mr. and Mrs. Volkovich. We heard about what happened to your son. I think we can help each other."
