Steve and Bucky sat on the couch, the air heavy with the weight of memories being carefully pieced together. Steve, determined to help Bucky remember, started talking.
"Remember the old days on our block?" Steve grinned. "You know, fooling around with neighbors who always called the cops?" Bucky smiled back, enjoying the warmth of the memory, even if the details slipped through his grasp. It felt like a nice part of their past waiting to be revisited. Steve smiled with a hint of nostalgia.
"I could"ve sworn that you and I could get away with anything," he chuckled, glancing over at Bucky, who listened attentively, curious about their shared history. As Steve"s laughter lingered in the air, a spark of recognition flickered in Bucky"s eyes. The faintest echo of a forgotten memory seemed to dance in his eyes.
"You know," Bucky mused, a thoughtful expression crossing his face, "there"s a feeling, a vibe, like we had a knack for mischief back then. What else do you remember?" Steve, encouraged by Bucky"s response, thought back. Steve, a smile playing on his lips, was ready to share more.
"Well, Bucky, we used to lie on the grass all day, just talking after sneaking out of training when nobody was watching. I remember it all. We were more than friends; we were best friends." Bucky"s eyes lit up as the memories started to resurface, like pieces of a puzzle falling into place. He chuckled.
"Training, sneaking out, and those endless talks on the grass," Bucky said with a smile. "It"s starting to come back. We were quite the duo, weren"t we?" Steve leaned back on the couch, a nostalgic smile crossing his face as he looked at Bucky.
"Remember when we were younger? We didn"t have a clue about what life had in store for us. We were just a couple of kids – dumb, wild, and free, like those days in little league." Steve sat on the couch, his eyes gazing into the past.
"Bucky, you remember those days, right? When we wore our hearts right on our sleeves. Everything felt so uncomplicated, so innocent."
Bucky, lost in thought, nodded in agreement. "Yeah, Steve, little league days. We were just kids, not burdened by the weight of the world. But then... why did we ever have to leave that simplicity behind?" Bucky"s face clouded with sadness as he thought back to the events before his time in HYDRA. Bucky sat in quiet reflection, his mind drifting back to his childhood.
"Could I get a rewind?" he mused, a yearning in his eyes. "A chance to go back in time, relive those moments, because right now, I don"t know what to do with everything." The weight of his past bore heavily on his shoulders, and in that moment, he longed for the simplicity of days gone by. Steve, recognizing the mood that had settled over Bucky, placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder.
"I get it, Buck," he said with empathy. "Sometimes, we all wish for a chance to rewind. But you"re not alone in this. We"ll face whatever comes our way, just like we always have." Bucky"s gaze lingered on the horizon, lost in thoughts of his childhood.
"Where did our friends go?" he wondered aloud, a touch of nostalgia in his voice. "I remember standing on our street, but now it feels empty. After all these years everyone we used to know has to be dead. We swore we"d never leave them." The wistful reminiscence painted a picture of friendships lost and a neighborhood that had changed over the years. Steve"s eyes mirrored a shared sense of loss as he absorbed Bucky"s reflection on their past. With a solemn understanding, he responded,
"I feel it too, Buck. Our old street, the friends we had... it"s like a different world now. Time moves on, and people drift apart. But the memories, the moments we shared, they"re still alive in us. And as for moving away, well, sometimes life steers us in directions we never anticipated. We may not have the same street, but we"ve got each other. And that counts for something, doesn"t it?" Bucky"s gaze softened, appreciating the sincerity in Steve"s words.
"Yeah, Steve," he replied, a hint of a smile playing on his lips. "You"re right. We"ve got each other, and that means a lot. Even if things have changed, our friendship is one constant that time can"t take away. Maybe it"s time to create new memories, you know?" The acknowledgment of their bond brought a sense of comfort to them both. Bucky took Steve"s hand, the corners of his lips turning upward.
"I"m so happy I got you back, Buck. I missed you all those years, frozen or not. I"m grateful we both made it through." Steve spoke with genuine sincerity, and Bucky responded with a warm smile, nodding in agreement. Wanting to lift the mood, Bucky playfully added. "Enough of this sad stuff, Steve. Let"s go make some memories. I heard there"s a new ice cream shop waiting for us!"
